Stuck

Post by Boomer »

I wonder if anyone could help me. I entered the bridge district and started investigating the murders. However when speaking to the merchant about the piece of hide, I was interrupted by a shadow thief being attacked by three vampires. After the battle I saved without thinking and now I can't speak to the merchant about the piece of hide again, and I don't have the hide anymore. Is there any way I can reactivate this quest without having to start over?

You can talk to the beggar again and he will give you the hide.

Won't your autosave help out here, or have you triggered it since the quest was broken?

Yeah I could, but my last autosave was a bit ago, I'd rather not restart it from there, but it's looking like I may have to. I looked through the cluaconsole items hoping to find the hide, hoping I could trigger the right conversation by carrying the item, but couldn't seem to find it.

If you can use Shadow Keeper (SK) then it should be possible to overcome this by changing the relevant global variable. Trick is of course to know which variable. I've jus checked through my current character, who has completed the quest and these are the ones that look possible to me, the numbers are the settings for my character, but bear in mind I've also completed the Trademeet part of the quest.

knowsmurders 1

merchanthide 1

skinwenthostile 1

tannerexposed 1

tannermove 1

tannerplot2 5

The most likely candidate looks like being mechanthide, if it's set to zero for you then try changing it to 1 and see how that affects things. If that's at 1 for you, then try changing one of the others. Only change one at a time and try moving the plot forward (have you talked to the hooker near the merchant?), try accosting the tanner etc.. Also do this with a separate save, and keep separate saves until you can be sure it's safe, like after getting confirmation from the watchman and the rep increase.

The item code for the hide is misc5g, so you could try that first.

Best of luck.
