Say WHUH? I can't become deathlord?!
I had planned to make a Mage/Fighter/Sorcerer/Marauder/Deathlord female elf but I noticed that the "deathlord" class requires 10 points in heavy weapons/armor/shields and I calculated how much EXP I'll have to spend to get there: 46'080'000 points. I mean, how the **** am I going to get them? This is in version 1.4, so the only remotely reliable monsters who give good EXP are fire drakes but even they are still rare (other options would include trolls, giant snakes or moon beasts, but the first two are uber rare and the moon beasts are quite annoying and also only give about 25000 exp). Is the deathlord class meant to be so expensive? Is it still like that in 1.5, and if yes, how did other players accomplish getting the required EXP points?

For whatever reason, Deathlord is the toughest third tier class to get. You either have to be very patient, or you have to go with Adept and Paladin as your other two classes.

Okay, thanks. Seems like I have to quit playing that elf for a while now since I ordered 1.5 and my 1.4 characters won't be compatible anyway and getting that huge amount of experience would probably take longer than it takes for my DL 1.5 to arrive. But maybe I'll play a new incarnation of that elf in 1.5 and really become a Deathlord.

It's the same in 1.5
I was working towards becoming a deathlord, but the amount of experience needed was insane! My heavy armor was at an 8 and I needed over 3 million XP to get to 9...who knows how much I would've needed to get up to 10. So I opted for Wizard as my final class. I took the XPs I had accumulated to raise my heavy armor and used it instead to boost my Arcane level from 14 to 19.
BTW if you have a female character you should join the sisterhood and become a warwitch. They'd kick a deathlord's butt up and down the entire length of the Battlefield of the Dead.

That would be possible but I did the warwitch quest already two times while I never fought General Trajek ever; I just wanted to see how hard it is to defeat him. On a side note: despite my arcane magic level being at 8, frost shards doesn't seem to do any damage at all (or too low damage to be noticeable)??? I can remember it totally whooping the enemies' ass when I played on my old computer, doing like 20-30 damage per "pulse" for a total of >200!

i know what u mean
i have a maurader/wizard with deathlord pl8 and legs but i need ungodly exp to get the last lvl like 20mil exp and dont wanna fight moon beasts for 3days to get the exp. i do have my arcaine lvl at 24 and i want to tell u i have seen ice shards hit for almost 200 dmg per pulse on a carrion worm. so increase ur arcaine lvl.

A "carrion worm"??? Is that a new enemy in 1.5? (sorry for the stupid question but the 1.5 I ordered still hasn't arrived, the german postal service is on a strike right now) I tested the Ice Shards on a "Twisted Sylph" enemy with 12 in arcane magic and every pulse did less than 10 damage, reducing her health only by a sliver. But it's really insane that the Deathlord requirements are so high - actually the mage class reqs should be so high because arcane magic can simply 0wn everything (especially if you have fire nova or cataclysm and the "spellfire" skill) while deathlord seems to be quite useless. Learning bonuses for weapon/armor skills, lol, how useless. There are no weapons which require a level higher than 12 anyway.
edit: Now I've got 1.5 and ice shards STILL don't do meaningful damage. I still remember those Haunted Ghosts from 1.4 - now they're a cakewalk actually, since I had my Wylvan stand there and take TWO full charges of ice shards from two haunted ghosts with only 60 HP and I barely saw my life bar drop. That was ten deaths, AT LEAST, for the same situation in 1.4 on my old computer, all with my Urgoth dead as a doornail before he could even get close enough to swing. I remember that back then, even my Urgoth Ubertank with >200 HP was once killed by a single Haunted Ghost with only a half volley - I was trying to dodge but suddenly the shards hit me, so I took the damage of the second half of the ice shards attack and I DIED. Made me totally mad since I had just finished off Nauselom and then my 200 HP go POOF because of a little bit of ectoplasm!

Easiest way to make a Deathlord is thus
Mine was a zaur Fighter/Mage/Marauder/Battlemage... you need to have a secondary class that also gets the heavy stuff. Otherwise the character won't have a decent enough bonus in the heavy stuff. He'll be level 50 before he can ever become a Deathlord, unless he' got the bonus given by gaining the heavy weapons and armor from a second class. I'm assuming it'd be just as easy to make a Deathlord/Paladin, but that combination seems really odd to me, so I never tried. It was fairly easy to turn a Marauder/Battlemage into a Deathlord... pretty much just sit around and kill Moonbeasts at Lake Lohr till you've got what you need. Faster if you set the game to more encounters and harder enemies. I had originally tried to make a Deathlord/Sorcerer, but i wasn't about to spend that kind of time either. That character was an urgoth anyway, and I'm playing CE... lol
What i'd like to know is why they made Enchantresses unable to attain the War Witch class... if they don't combine with a class that gets all the heavy stuff, its impossible.... Can't think of a class combination that would be as good as the characters I've made so far, and still be able to do that... DL's a pain in the ass for that kind of thing... helps to know what you want the character to end up as so you can think about it ahead of time.

the carrion worm(found around venturean forest) is the smaller version of the ice worm(found near the northlands) and the gangrenous worm(found on your way to skulldon near the entrance). and some characters have natural resistanced to some elements. i have found out that ice ball works better against rouge zaurs than fire ball. and you might not be seeing damage like i mention because you might not have spell fire or the stats that i have (26arcaine/12spellfire). i'll attach some pics so u can see how i set up my main character. i am pretty high lvl for where im at as i had trouble in naga temple and stoped trying to finish it and fought moon beasts till i was bored.file read error wrote:A "carrion worm"??? Yeah, meanwhile I also know what the wyrms are because I have 1.5 since quite some time. Those gangrenous wyrms in Davenmor manor are easily one of the most difficult fights in the entire game - my first 1.5 character was killed once and had to quit out of the game and reload several times or he would have died a LOT more often to them. And that character only died four times total through the entire game, so this should be sufficient proof of how hard they are!
Well, maybe, but only maybe I'll make a wizard in the future, fact is that I eschew the wizard class because it makes the game way too easy. Everyone can cast a few fireballs or iceballs and wipe out enemies in a few shots with the spellfire skill. Zap? Cast it, watch unstoppable lightning tear through anything, enemy drops dead. Blast Nova? Cast once, whole screen dead. It's a lot harder to put skills like Ward of Petrify or Blessed Spirit to good use, and that's why I much more often choose Celestial classes. (Yes, believe it or not, but I want the game to be challenging rather than playing a Uber Pwnz0r character.) But like I said, maybe I'll try out ice shards with spellfire one day and see how much damage it does.
And you fought moonbeasts until you reached level 54??? I'd have gotten bored from them a LOT sooner... the problem with this game is that once the character is high-level and has some good stats/skills/items going, everything becomes too simple. It would be so cool if there were Nightmare and Hell difficulty levels for Dungeon Lords so a high-level character would have some challenge again but can still use his high-level skills and equipment...

shadowlord
yah ive looked ta dl several times, but as u have 1.5 now look at sl, and class combo can become one, and there special ability rocks. ive beat the game at lvl 28 and 31, dont take any time to pl, other then getting me 20 heal potions before i go into the sewers. and can get dualweild from other source, both time was a female thou also, extra heraldry always helps. and from all the post ive seen and looking at weapons, medium dual weild not worth it.
im a melee type person and would put my shadowlord up against any magic-user.with there spells being useless against me for first 30 to 60 seconds, i would have them dead before they could do anything signifcant to me.
but i have only played thru game a few time, im always looking for new challenges.
