The McCain campaign announced Palin and everyone else involved in troopergate will not respond to subpoenas in the investigation. This is a tactic perfected by the Bush administration.
Is this legal? Will there be consequences both legally and electorally because of this? To me it reminds me to much of the politicization of the justice department and Bushes contempt for any sort of oversight.
Apparently she turned around and decided to cooperate yesterday. Wonder who told her to do that?

I would have loved to see an APB be put out on the wannabe VP.

I'm sure the police officers of Alaska would gleefully have complied and dragged both her and her husband and their dog in front of the judge.

Since we are on the subject... some entertaining political cartoons made it to my inbox..
An FYI for those who don't know, the donkey traditionally symbolises the Democrats...

I see your political cartoons and raise you real-life cartoons, DW.
YouTube - Jack Cafferty Tells Us How He Really Feels About Sarah Palin
edit: here's the transcript, from Cafferty's blog:
COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? … Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?
PALIN: Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions.

Aye, agreed..
That particular interview has caused Palin to be even more thoroughly raked over the coals on this side of the Atlantic than she already has been. While scouting around the internet I've read several comments by actual Republicans stating they'll be voting for Obama just because of Palin, though I've no idea how representative that is, obviously. IMO, it was not McCain's wisest move to make reference to his "Maverick Running Mate" in last night's debate...
Honestly, Palin is such an utter dimwit that she makes Ronald Reagan appear cerebral and intellectual... You know it's frightening when..

As a European - this woman scares me on a level that I hope the US makes a constitutional change and allow Bush to sit for 8 more years - just to keep her out of office
Looking at the "answer" in that YouTube clip combined with the others I've seen (Bush Doctrine anybody?

) - I am simply flabbergasted by how much nonsense she manages to say.

ROFLMAO!!!! That is comedic genius at its best
You know... this whole situation kind of reminds me of a very unpolitically correct joke which runs roughly along the lines of "The cannibals really loved the Church because every so often they'd send along a nice fat missionary to feast upon..."
In other words... I wonder if the Republicans had any conception at all of the gift horse they were granting the Democrats
Honestly, I
almost feel sorry for McCain for having had that moron foisted upon him...

Honestly, and can not understand how Amy Poehler manages to keep a straight face during that. I wouldn't have stood a chance.
I said many posts ago that Palin's nomination was a possible act of panic, as no other candidates where available. Hell, most of the republicans are either dead and embalmed or so senile they can't remember their own name. The interesting thing is that we get Palin, then a huge economic crisis. Now they're talking about digging up 700 BILLION dollars, and hand them out to the financial sharks who caused the crisis! Not to the little people who are losing their houses and jobs. Where are they gonna find that money? Bill Gates? USA is virtually bankrupt after 8 years of Bush-economy, and now this? I have been wrong before, but I really can't see McCain winning this one.

@Moonbiter,
lol yes!
My sense is that they were trying to appeal to the Christian Right etc. since McCain himself, by US Republican definitions, is something of a moderate... so they were looking for balance.
Still though... you have got to wonder..
I'm willing to bet that every time she faces the media the Republican strategists are holed up in a bar somewhere passing around the Scotch battle and the Advil...
And if the above isn't enough in terms of comic relief... here's the real thing:
YouTube - Palin - Russia's Proximity To Alaska Makes Me Experienced
Hmmm... If I stand at various points around where I live, I can see the US, and it doesn't even need to be a clear day. Wonder if that makes me an expert on Foreign Policy?

You are right: the real thing is funnier. What is scary is how close to the real thing the skit was!

Indeed... I think this is what has raised so much concern.. Those interviews are like something straight out of Monty Python. In that context, they
would be funny... Except this is real life, and as one commentator put it.. if McCain won she'd be only one heartbeat away from becoming president.. scary stuff indeed..
Honestly though... let's see... Ronald Reagan, Dan Qualye, George Bush II.... and now Sarah Palin. The Republicans seem particularly adept at putting true luminaries in leadership positions, don't they?
I also have to wonder just how self aware Palin is. I mean, I suppose there was some justification for Palin to say that the "Liberal Elite Media" were roasting her because of her politics... However, how can anyone possibly defend that level of sheer stupidity? I mean to think that somebody aspiring to be VP of one of the most powerful nations in the world
actually believes she has a grip on foreign relations because she can see Russia across the water is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

Dragon Wench you're completely missing the point, get your priorities right.
She 'Won one for the Gipper' by scoring the winning points on three broken legs, that's what matters to Joe and Jane Public, not whether she has any grip on reality! Sheesh, you'll be expecting her to know which country she's in next.

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.
The old rancher said, ‘Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.’
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.
The old rancher said, ‘When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a post turtle.’
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. ‘You know she didn’t get up there by herself, she doesn’t belong up there, she doesn’t know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put her up there to begin with.

No, just that a lot of them are extremely gullible and susceptible to rah-rah bull**** brain washing.
Of course an awful lot live in the Bible Belt, both literally and metaphorically, the sort of people that insist on teaching superstitious mumbo-jumbo alongside, or even in place of, evolution. The sort of people that Palin actually appeals to!

The same can be said of Brits, sadly. Look at our recent crop!
The only reason Cameron has good poll results is that he's not dour like Brown, but grins a lot - (just like Tony Blair before the rigours of office got to him and wore the grin into a forced grimace). Cameron has a mean little mouth when he's not grinning. But people like him.
I don't like Brown. I detested Blair. I can't stand Cameron. Am I the only one with common sense? Maybe I should run for office...

I dunno how anyone can still believe in a god, or how such believers can shut their eyes to the evidence for evolution. Even our ruddy genes prove we developed from the same stock as monkeys... and mice.
Do I sound like a jaded git? I am at the moment. I have the worst cold I can ever remember having.
