Ladies & Gentlemen,
I've seen the film twice and I assure you there was a romance scene between Aragorn and Arwen. Just a short one and not clearly justified.
Cheers

Don't worry, come sit on Uncle Odie's lap and I'll explain everything...
What they're arguing about is that that scene wasn't in the LotR book, but Peter Jackson slipped it in to the film to let the audience members who hadn't read the book know that there was a romance between Aragorn and Arwen.
That should clear up any confusion you have.

Run Aub! Run for your life!!
IIRC Arwen doesn't even speak untill the third book anyway...I reckon they just wanted to up Liv Tyler in a big way.

When a book --even in a form of trilogy-- is adjusted for the movie industry I don't expect the film to be narrowly bound in the exact order of events as those appear in the book. And I bet that the second film would have a couple of events we meet in the third book. So what?
Just remember Ivory's adaptation of Forster's and Isiguro's books for the big screen (Howard's End & Remains of the Day). His script didn't follow the book's order of events, but this didn't prevent him from making exceptionally good films.
Cheers,
Aubrey (running away from Ode's lap)
P.S. By the way, I suggest we drop the subject. We can discuss it further in the other forum (wasn't it at SYM?)

Feeling contrary today?
Good book does not mean good film (Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, The Beach), nor does a good film have to be a replica of the book...not sure what my point is, but one golden rule: don't make films out of computer games!
"The nutty bhaalspawn"
...is probably as good as a BG film could be. Or maybe 'Beverly Hills Bhaalspawn.'

you know that a bhaalspawn comedy would be good, dont try to deny it.
something like.. a cross between monty pythons holy grail and the south park omen rip off episode

My lap's not so bad...I just thought it was about time we revisited that little piece of history again...
And by all means come on over to SYM sometime, it's pretty good there. You get some interesting threads.

@ kopywrite ---
I'm rephrasing:
The romance scene wasn't clearly justified at the time I saw the film, because I hadn't read the trilogy. But now it is.
Feeling contrary, you said? Sure. All the time. After all, I'm just human.
Cheers

You guys. Not to be a pain is the kiester or anything, but can we PLEASE direct this board back to the ORIGINAL topic?!
Not to ruin anyone's fun or anything, but these sort of conversations *should* go into SYM. I remember seeing a forum there titled "movies I've seen lately".
Gnomethingie, this is all
your fault.
Now, I'm done with that. Now, for the good news:
On Elfwood (I trust you all have heard of the website?) I have met a man who is currently trying to complete a script and screenwrite for a Baldur's Gate movie. While I haven't the slightest idea if he will succeed or not, I thought it would be fun just to let you all know.
I'll produce a link to his website based on the idea when I get it.

Sorry if I sound dense, but how so?
After all, I'm just human.
Indeed. Contrariness is a most admirable defining quality of human nature. No it isn't.

The wonders of science...
I ran the portraits through pictreiv.com and found some scary good comparisons that weren't just skin deep. I fear the computer has the perfect movie cast already in mind. Click the link to Flickr to see the comparisons.
