The type of touch I associate "cuddling" with could never be viewed as foreplay or sexual, to me the word refers to the kind of kissing of hugging between parent and child that has no sexual undertone at all.
I think the easiest way for me to describe what I mean, is in terms of arousal. Cuddling to me means physical contact that decreases arousal, ie comforting a crying baby, a child curling up in the parents lap, etc, whereas touch with a sexual tension should increase the arousal level, ie you feel more awake, heartbeat and breathing goes up, etc.
Is cuddly not a manly word? I wouldn't know - what is a manly word? Men and women have equal sexual needs, that is a fact many times confirmed in studies. Do men and women show differences regarding other types of physical contact? I haven't seen any studies regarding this area, but it would surprise me a lot it there were any gender related differences. I can however imagine that "cuddle" would be a more socially acceptable way for women to express sexual needs in societies where female sexuality is still surrounded with more taboos than male sexuality, and the female stereotype still says women connect love and sex more than men do. I could also imagine that according to the typical Western male gender stereotype, perhaps sex drive is more accepted than need for other physical contact.
In any case, I know that personally, I am not fond of physically clingy men, and I'm not fond of "asexual" touch in love relationships with men
Ah, I think we are different types

I took that test of DW's and I am a 2 'the helper' and a 4 'the romantic'. Both require lots of positive reassurance, plenty of compliments and just general 'niceness' (and the ability to handle someone who's as touchy feely [-i.e. clingy] as me).
I believe the men have already gone into the word stereotypes, but I'll jump in anyway. Yes, words in our society sometimes have gender conotations. It's silly and hopefully will go away with time. I think word gender stereotypes are similar to sexual gender stereotypes that may inhibite a person being as they want to be. *shrugs*

@CE-I think you're right, cuddling is all down to semantics. I had always taken it to be more of a blanket term, as Viv seems to. It can be both asexual or sexual, depending upon who it is you're cuddling. And a wrench is a tool of some sort, like a spanner but bigger IIRC.
@Gwally-I know what you mean, Viv could cause the Pope himself to have serious reservations about his career choice merely by saying 'socks'.
And for Heaven's sakes, what's the big deal about the toilet seat? If you want it down you put it down, if you want it up you put it up. It's not that hard to do.
Hi Ode

Thank you for the compliments to you and Gwally
I've added your thoughts and DW's cage theory to the header, just as an fyi
As to the toilet. First of all, this isn't an issue at my house as my SO came pre-trained. For me, the toilet seat issue is a cleanliness issue. MOST bathrooms have a toilet, sink and bathtub. Most sinks have the toothbrushes in a little cup or holder on the counter a few feet from the toilet. ALL toilets spray when flushed, period. There is not yet a 'super flushy' toilet that does not inject little particles into the air. If a person leaves the toilet seat up, they are leaving the toilet lid up to. This person is spraying MY toothbrush with icky things. *shrugs*

I'm by and large untrainable unless I want to be, but in my house we have a different room for the toilet so the toothbrushes aren't an issue. This is normal for Australia BTW.
I hope you're right about the gender connotations fading over time, I'm a big fan of cuddling, too.

Mmm I surely not cute; huggable ? perhaps

And FYI I prefer my own space and time if I really want to be alone rather than hearing lots of complaints

That about covers it. Remember that men are impervious to logic, so forget it when analyzing them. In fact, don't analyze men or the words they like. Just bring us more beer.
ROFLMAO at your explanations
But the French word thing, where does that put French men? Or are they all gay anyway?
truck = cameon
blood = sang
punch on the mouth = donner un taloche

Shouldn't it be "bunnies"?
Women are NOT like.... a dictionary or spellchecker. Pardon the gross generalisation.
I tend to think of myself more like a human Rottweiler than a bunny.

Well T', I do like to nibble on carrots from time to time to help me see in the dark.
KidD01 has it right. Now I will slobber all over his face.

Why not a capybara?
because the raison d'etre of a capybara is to be killed by an anaconda or rampaging pirahnas in a wildlife documentary
