Very true.

how can someone NOT be interested in hockey?

oh well, Canadians are cool so thats what counts.

did you know our olympic team is being trained to withstand the heat in athens, Greece because they aren't used to it! I dunno, but it sounds like its backing up the stereo-type of all Canadians huddled around in igloos or something...

No wonder. The reason why Canadians get such a bad rep is because they can't can't keep a conversation going for 5 minutes without starting in on hockey.

In fact, it says in most of the travel guides:
Language: Hockey
Money: Canadian Puck
Religion: Gretzky

@hwesta_elf,
I don't know, that thing about the heat in Athens sounds pretty flaky...

I mean honestly... the average humid, Toronto summer can't be much cooler than those in Greece. Equally, it is pretty damn hot anywhere in the interior of the country (okay, not the far North, but it's not exactly well-populated anyway

) during the summer months. This is actually a major reason why I moved to the West Coast. I hate all the rain we get in the winters, but the summers are nice and temperate.

this was on the news actually! they are also concerned that the pollution there will take effect because some of our athletes are asthmatic. it is also not polluted by cars but more by smokers because they smoke a lot in Greece...

friggin ciggarette company owners, they should all be put on a post and tortured and then, burn in hell. they make money off of (i'd swear but my account might get disapbled)

I hear you.... You might even want to consider creating a thread. I don't think it would be worth suggesting cigarettes be made illegal.... problematic on many counts. But it might be worth initiating a debate on whether or not all smoking in public places should be banned. I have asthma myself, so you wouldn't get any arguments from me on that score.

I don't know they tried that during the Prohibition era with alchohol, only really created a dangerous underground. What they need to do is stop putting cigarettes on the air as the cool thing to do; something that curiously they still have not done.
I know how ya feel kid one of my uncles got cancer of the mouth from chewing tobacco, and for smoking has severe emphysema, had to have part of removed, looks nasty. The rest of my family all smokes, except me; and I know how hard it is to get them to stop, because they know its bad for them but yet still do it.
But fact is nothing you do will make them stop, its pretty rare to quit cold turkey; you hide the cigarettes from them they buy more, you argue with them they get angry. The only real thing that might work is locking them in somewhere so that they have to quit.
There is also some research being done with respect to addiction, something to do with blocking receptor sites so that the tobacco doesn't give the pleasure buzz; might get them signed up for a few lab trials with respect to that.
Other things you could do is start a writing campaign, try and get the media to stop portraying cigarettes in a positive way in movies, tv, etc.
You know I personally think they need to put some nasty dieretic or poison in the cigarettes so that it makes anyone who smokes it sick after repeated uses in fact this should be mandated; but then nobody really listens to me, oh well when I rule the world, then they'll listen, they'll all listen, I swear ahahahhahah.
But seriously if you can get them to psychologically associate smoking with some bad stimulus you might make it easier to quit, don't know what that would be, but you can do some research, maybe; try and get them signed up with various psychological programs, professionals who might help pull their buttons.
I would support the illegalization of smoking in public places myself, but realistically public smoking zones would be better, and they are putting them in place in many different zones.

well, the only reason Americans win the Stanley cup is because they have like 22 teams in the NHL and there are only 8 Canadian teams, another reason they win is (if you've noticed) all their players are Canadian and Canada's players are Swedish or Finnish or something. really, we should keep it like the Olympics were people can only play for their countries team, then Canada would kick-butt!

but in reply to the smoking thing, I'm glad the Ontario Health Minister is putting his foot down, he wants to make smoking illegal like it should be he said something like: "Its time to illegalize something that we should have done a long time ago" or something like that. And thanks for all the support but putting mild poison wouldn't work because (i did the research for a project) Cigarettes already contain rat poison, toilet cleaner, tar and that stuff they use to preserve dead things; thats only 4 out of 5,000 chemicals in a cigarette. the only thing that makes it taste good is the nicotine because it is addictive.

Actually we only have 6 Canadian teams

We lost Quebec and Winnipeg some time back (though, there is talk of Pittsburgh going to Winnipeg).
As for why the American teams win, well, it's simple economics. For the most part, they have the money to buy the big names, while Canadian teams (aside from Toronto) does not. Not only that, but that law averages, as Hwesta said, is stacked against us...

except for the New York Islanders, they are the richest and they have a team of All-Stars and yet they still suck...

how does that work out? I guess they didn't buy Domi or Belfour or any of the good guys

we've got them *nah nah
