I don't really have a pet peeve, but I may develop one:

- people who like to whine about trivial things

- people who try to sing songs, but don't know the lyrics.

In a happier and more constructive state of mind

Either that, or we've got more bottle-upped anger, are pissed more often and are simply outright annoying.

Females who get upset because you don't do what they wanted you to do and have no reason to be involved with you enough to have any right to be upset about it.

Jumping out of bed in an irritated mood and digging for booze when suddenly, your AC unit drops out of your window and into the yard, still trying to pump cold air into the world around it.

At least I live on the first floor and it still worked after it fell. And the cord was long enough so it didn't rip out either.

- People you don't know who approach you with the words "Hey, my friend ..." (and then usually start asking you for money/favours/...). It takes more than a second to become friends.
- The phrase "(That's) interesting" when the opposite is meant (a habit that I thus far only noticed with Americans).
- The habit of many Africans to address any foreigner, especially whites, with "Bossman/Bosslady" or (French) "Patron(ne)". I hate it, even if they are in my or my organisation's employment (the ones that get to know me usually start using my given name within a few weeks).
- People who say "yes" to please you/not to offend you, even if the correct answer is "no".
- Aggressive street vendors (people who keep following you for a mile hawking their wares).
- Restaurants were they give you a complete menu for your perusal, while they only have two or three of the dishes on it actually available.

Brits too: I was once told that "in Oxford, the word 'interesting' has at least seven meanings, none of the complimentary"

I would change this to read:

"Females who get upset at you because you failed to read their mind and therefore didn't do what they wanted and expected you to do, even though they never vocalized or otherwise communicated their wishes, and who for some reason known only to them expect you to feel obligated to do their bidding in the first place, despite not being in a position to reasonably expect this of you."

Oh man, I have personal experience in this realm! My former roommate had an AC unit that regularly dumped nasty AC water all over his bed. The final time this happened I was in the other room and all I heard was a loud scream of rage, followed by "I HATE THIS THING!" After that there was a loud crash, caused by him throwing the AC unit out the window (in a hulk-like feat of strength). It stayed there for 6 months, until finally the local crackhead stole it. We saw him running away with it.

Ha, both of those made my morning. Funny stuff.

It's hard to list every pet peeve until it happens to you; at least, that's my experience, but then my memory is atrocious, so maybe it's natural I'd forget.

I was at the movies last week on a date... saw Dark Water because my date loves Jennifer Connolly... p.s. save your money (which I knew going in, but a date's a date). And we were in the back row cuz... young people; you figure it out. And some people sat right next to us! Just a few seats over, these loud, obnoxious kids sat down and ruined the whole movie--although the movie ruined itself--and wouldn't shut up. And they started smoking, too. My date and I, bored with a movie which seemed to be about evil killer mold, decided to just leave.

I also don't like a majority of drivers; they seem to think the road is just them, and they can do whatever they want. It's so annoying to see them just fly across lanes or chat away on a cell phone and veer into the next lane because they're not paying attention. At times like that, I'm always thinking, "This is why I don't have super powers, because the canals would be full right now."

If a bunch of people sat right next to me and my date the last time I went to the movie with my last girlfriend they would have felt VERY awkward about 20 minutes into the movie. I can't imagine the scene which would have occured if someone else happened to be in that theatre with us that night.

Another pet peeve of mine. "Safety" type items that you cannot operate when you are sick. When I'm terribly sick with a child-safety bottle of whatever it is I need, I'm weak and can't grasp, twist and open the thing because I'm as weak as a child. It's terribly irritating! I ended up sawing through the advil bottle one time, yeah, I actually used a saw. Those advil were SO worth it though.

Religion's probably also a pet peeve of mine. I was raised atheist, but i wasn't raised to make fun of other people's beliefs. I just grew into it.

Anyway, a lot of people take religion very seriously--mark that in the file under "Duh"--and it strikes me a tad hypocritical since a lot of the very religious people also happen to be the kind of people who do things very un-holy. And the ones who use religion to justify stupid points of view, stuff like God hating gays and whatall; I read parts of the Bible, and we aren't even supposed to eat pork, shrimp, lobster, oysters, and we're supposed to stone to death our disobedient children. I don't see anyone lobbying for those.

Ha, Religion is a deadfall full of spikes and nasty creatures type of discussion. However I agree with you. A lot of people follow their religion based on family tradition, which is wrong IMHO and a pet peeve of mine.

A lot of people also follow a religion they either twist to their own uses, or corrupt, or simply don't understand. Which is why I've got a serious problem with any religious organization in general. When someone is granted power over handling the beliefs of others, that position will attract unscrupulous, ambitious people like moths to a flame.

Oh, I agree. In fact, I tend to find it horrendously ironic that so many African Americans are so heavily Christian, considering how they came into the religion. I got in a fight with one in January because I had the nerve to voice my opinion--I said the Christian God is a tyrant--and she went off on me. I shut my mouth because I knew it was careless of me to have said it, plus the caffeine hadn't kicked in yet, so my mind was sluggish. But if I ever got into a debate with her, she would probably kill me (physically) because I would not hold back.

I also agree that people twist religion to their own uses, just like they do almost anything else. People will do anything to have power or wealth, or both. And when they twist religion to justify all kinds of things--religion was used to justify slavery, and I actually found a passage in the Bible that does justify slavery (not enslaving blacks, but selling your own children into slavery)--and it irks me no end.
