Aside from the fact that the majority are bad drivers, rude, etc.?

Their education systems both suck and blow. What they call a 5th grade reading level in Arizona is about equal to 1st or 2nd grade reading level in Texas. My classmates in Public Speaking(this is in college) who are Arizonans read worse than a 5th or 6th grader in Texas. They also haven't been instilled with any desire to learn. Today in class, we were reading a speech that had been given by a Texan for a speech competition. The speech was an informative speech on leeches. We were split up into groups to read this and each person in the group had to read a paragraph or two. Not one person in my group(all Arizonans except for me) could read any of the words that was above 8 letters in length and often had trouble just reading the words that were 5-8 letters in length. The only words they didn't have trouble reading were the 1-4 letter long words. One of them made the comment, "Gee, they must be smart in Texas," and another followed that up with, "and they talk funny, too," which, of course, did nothing to improve my attitude. Then, when came my turn to read, being the only one who could correctly pronounce every word in the speech, they had me just read the rest of it. This was a ten minute speech. It took about 15-20 minutes for them to read the first ½ of the speech and took me about 3-4 minutes to read the second ½ of the speech which had just as many, maybe more, words that they hadn't a clue how to pronounce.
