He's got some good songs...if someone else were singing them. As I've stated before, I don't like music that gives me a headache. His singing gives me a headache. I can't stand his voice. He also cain't dance. *shudders as she remembers the Dwight Yokam music video she saw on GAC last year*

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw can dance...well, at least slow dance. Just watch the Let's Make Love music video. You don't see country music singers really dancing a whole lot. But, Dwight Yokam is bad even for a country music singer. He looks more like he's trying to do step arobics without the step.

I haven't heard any Hank Sr. recently enough to remember if I like him or not.

hank SR. sings with his whole heart and soul in every song he sings. people have trouble with the twanginess and the yodeling, but oh well, that's their perogative.
so few artists in any genre of music have any kind of heart in their music. and NOTHING in the top 40 ever does. it is all just mass produced, shoved down the public's throat, MTV crap.

I don't agree with that about Country. Yeah, there is some that is that way, but not most of what I listen to. Like Lonestar with Amazed and Tell Her That You Love Her; Lee Ann Womack with Why They Call It Falling; Tim McGraw and Faith Hill with Let's Make Love; Keith Urban with But For The Grace Of God; and many others.

Ain't Goin' Down(Til The Sun Comes Up) by Garth Brooks

Six o'clock on Friday evening
Momma doesn't know she's leaving
'Til she hears the screen door slamming
Rubber squealin', gears a-jamming
Local country station just a blaring on the radio
Pick him up at seven and they're headin' to the rodeo
Momma's on the front porch screamin' out her warning
Girl you better get your red head
Back in bed before the morning

Nine o'clock the show is ending
But the fun is just beginning
She knows he's anticipating
But she's gonna keep him waiting
Grab a bite to eat
And then they're heading to the honkey-tonk
But loud crowds and line dancing
Just ain't what they really want
Drive out to the boondocks and park down by the creek
And where it's George Strait 'til real late
And dancing cheek to cheek

Ain't going down 'til the sun comes up
Ain't givin' in 'til they get enough
Going 'round the world in a pickup truck
Ain't goin' down 'til the sun comes up

Ten 'til twelve is wine and dancing
Midnight starts the hard romancing
One o'clock that truck is rocking
Two is coming, there's still no stopping
Break to check the clock at three
They're right on where they want to be
Four o'clock get up and going
Five o'clock that rooster's crowing

Ain't going down 'til the sun comes up
Ain't givin' in 'til they get enough
Going 'round the world in a pickup truck
Ain't goin' down 'til the sun comes up

Six o'clock on Saturday
Her folks don't know he's on his way
The stalls are clean, the horses fed
They say she's grounded 'til she's dead
Well here he comes around the bend
Slowing down, she's jumping in
Hey mom, you're daughter's gone
And there they go again

Ain't goin' down 'til the sun comes up
Ain't givin' in 'til they get enough
Goin' 'round the world in a pickup truck
Ain't goin' down 'til the sun comes up

:) :)

i do believe that country has the most mainstream artists that still keeps its roots and puts heart into their music.
most genres lose their soul after a few years, when once it becomes popular it gets mass produced.
rap - i much prefered the "gangsta" stuff from the late 80's than anythign today which is nothing but "hey, look at me!" there's no message and no meaning to it. i am sure there are still some good artists out there, but i don't have the means to hear any of it since MTV only plays probably the worst possible music on the planet.
jazz never really hit it huge, so it has kept its heart.
alternative took a nose dive after nirvana and pearl jam and such.
the "hardcore" stuff that is out now, will crap out pretty soon, but right now, most of it still has passion.
there are some good obscure punk bands out there still.
and of course my favorite is Texas country. great artists like Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Roger Creagor, Kevin Fowler, Cooder Graw, Dub Miller, and classics like ray wylie hubbard, jerry jeff walker, and gary p. nunn.
all of those are obviously fairly obscure, just as i know that there are many good bands and artists out there that will never make it big, because they don't fit the mold that the record companies want to shove down our throats.

alrighty then...i'll step down off my horse and take a seat at the bar. i'll just reach behind the bar to help myself to some wild turkey till ysh shows up to serve up some drinks.

I agree with you there, though some of those things you named 'went bad' before I was old enough to really know what any of that was.

You mentioned all those names of Texas country artists, most of which sound vaguely familiar. Have you ever heard of Clifton Jansky? He was the first guy to have a hit with Amarillo By Morning, though it was only in the South Texas area in and around San Antonio, IIRC. He's a great guy who does good music.

Cheese and onion on wholemeal bread? Uh...cheese is okay! :D

So it's already lunchtime over there, ne? I don't have to wake up for 2-3 more hours...and I still haven't figured out what possessed me to wake up at 4AM and not go back to sleep. I can't even go ahead and go take a shower because the bathroom with the shower is in my parents' bedroom and I certainly don't want to go in there right now. So, if I seem to disappear into lurking mode, I'm probably lurking in my bed. ;) :p :D
