No doubt a sequel. Why? Because you can't leave things up in the air like that:
- The true Sith are going to be revealed
- What happened to Revan and Exile
- What of your previous companions and the Ebon Hawk
.....
KOTOR IV should be a perquel (if they ever make one) so you can fight in the Mandalorian Wars.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic III > Sequel or Prequel?
Sequel. Have playable flashbacks, so the two ideas are mixed.

If you had to continue the story going forward it would have to take place in a different galaxy then the star wars. According to SW time lime the Exile trained new jedi and essentially started up the Jedi again. But theres no details of this. Perhaps this means the people in his party during KOTOR 2 stayed behind to train new students, while the Exile takes off to find Revan. Unless the game is completely brand new and helps write in a new history in the SW time line as the first 2 KOTOR did. In the same time the only major event to happen after KOTOR 2 is the rise of Darth Ruin. Perhaps theres some sort of link between KOTOR and the time of Darth Ruin?
With that said I believe a proper game to respond to the true sith and what happen to this person and that person you would need to start with a brand new character who is either born in this new galaxy or leaves the star wars galaxy to find the Exile/Revan.
And if you bring the story back before the events of KOTOR then that would kinda be boring and wouldnt explain anything new. The Mandalorian wars would be a little dry since you already know what happen then and your big bad guy wouldnt be a big surprise, prolly some Mandalorian, Canderous anyone?. Perhaps Exar Kun time, but again your poking into a story that has nothing to do with the original KOTOR. You would have to start the story off directly after KOTOR 2 or a couple years after that point tops.
Then again I wouldnt mind something during Darth Ruins time, that could have tie ins to KOTOR and the original SW, since its time line is like half way through both times, almost.

There are things that still need to be revealed, and I don't think the designers would pass up a chance to link everything so directly... and if is is a sequel they will end up with another trilogy, in true Star Wars fashion
And I kind of agree with Monstross. I think you should start of neutral, similar to the first two, and you choose you alleigance in-game. I would like to be able to actually PLAY as a Sith, as you are always raiding the station or whatever, defeat the last boss THEN you become a Sith... I want the Dark Lord bossing me around or whatever... much more interesting... then I kill him and all the Jedi... very evil, very fluffily-accurate and very, very cool...
My two credits *Votes at poll*
I couldnt agree with you more,Slaughtering the Jedi is so much fun!

Wasn't the prequel trilogy fun? Everyone knew that the Republic was going to fall, that Anakin would become Darth Vader, that the Jedi would be almost extinct etc. However nobody knew
how that happened.
I'm all for a sequel to KotOR II. Then they could make a prequel KotOR trilogy telling the story of Exar Kun, Jolee Bindo with his head full of hair, Coruscant being a small village with a well, Mandalorian Wars, whatever. I just hope they don't do a George Lucas and wait 20 years to make this prequel trilogy.

Prequel or Sequel
I voted for a Sequel, I mean really a prequel would be nice but i would prefer a sequel. i want to have questions about what happened to Revan, the exile, and your companions before i find out about thhe past, what happens first could wait.

I am going with the Sequel, simply because I don't think they have enough material to go back and do a good Prequel. Also they should think about wrapping it up with KotoR 3, I mean so far so good, the first game was great, the second was okay, but it had quite a few flaws in it. KotoR 2 pretty much set the stage as far as how the story will layout in terms of what you'll be doing as the Exile in the 3rd game. Basically your going to be following Revan (where ever the hell hs is...) into the unknown parts of space searching for the real Sith threat, and hopefully a little closure unlike in KotoR 2.

Exactly, it wouldn't make any sense if they do these two games about this war after another war, and about some thing that occurs after the war, to jump back and do that war that was before the war that occured after the war..........................

I'm lost, I just successfully confused myself

It's hard to choose I'd like a sequel explaining what happend with Revan and the exile, plus I'd also like to see a prequel that looks at the rise of Revan I think both would be interesting

Got to be a sequal as, like most other people are saying, the second game was not a proper conclusion to the story.
However, I think it would be cool to do another set of Star Wars rpg games in the spirit of KOTOR. How about the beginning of the Jedi / Sith?

personally, i think it should be both. I think that in the epiluoge that it should be kinda like the second one. where it lets you play in the mandalorian wars and after wards, you get frozen or something and then after the epilouge, you awaken on the Malachore the first planet of the mandalorians and you learn there ways or something like that...
