Another reason why Gandalf wouldn't be as powerfull as he is as a Maia, is because he has to move around in human form and this gives him certain disadvantages. Limiting his spells via SK is a good idea, but then he shouldn't be able to gain any level anymore, because that would shake all those spells up.

I have found the source from the swords Sting, Glamdring and Narsil (said to be), but I forgot to write it down, anyway, it was not Gondolin, but some dwarvensmith from Belegost, but relics nonetheless.

Nah, Glamdring and Sting are elven swords, that's mentioned many times. I'm pretty sure they're from Gondolin, not Belegost. Definitely not Belegost. Narsil might be from Belegost, I don't remember having even heard where it's made.

Glamdring, Orcrsit and Sting all came from Gondolin. When they went to Rivendell Elrond identified them as such, both Glamdring and Orcrsit had been worn by the generals/kings of that city in the Goblin wars.

Sting was little more than a pocket knife for an elf, and it has no magic in it other than the elven minimum.

I could not find the histroy of the Blade that was Broken (was it only called Narsil after it was re-forged?) before it was broken, apart from that is had a great and noble history.

Hey everyone,

Hey i was thinking, Someone who is skilled at the infinity Engine should make the glowing sword for Frodo. NO the sword will not glow when orcs are near but more lie Drizzt's swords. Also it should be similar t crom faeyer with the ablity to kill certain creature such as trolls, ogres, and giants in one strike or something like that. Also knowing that Frodo would only work as a fighter/thief, someone will have to make some chainmail(minthrill) with some really good ac and dmg res(remember frodo took a pike in the chest and was just fine beacuse of the armor). Oh and of course the ring itself. It would have to be like te ring of gaxx with all those spec. abilities but it would make u lose your rep for every day it was worn(likethe slayer does kinda). And that is pretty much it. I know i have wondered from the convo butt i just wanted to mention or reiterate those points.

You know my last owner said i was sharp and edgy, he was such an...

I read the Hobbit once more and there I read that Orcrist and Glamdring were from Gondolin, so agree on that, BUT I also read in the Silmarillion (in the add-ons) that Orcrist is from Nogroth, so writer's confused?? I am anyway. However it were still elfenswords, so maybe writer's mistake in one book and forgot to edit. Let's keep it on that. Narsil is not an elvenswords, so probably not from Gondolin, or any other elvencity. However, I think it is only Elendil's sword, coz it is surely not the original sword from the Numenorean king, coz that was the sword of the elvenking Thingol.
Anyway, I won't be bothering anyone anymore with my reading :D

Silmarillion was finished by Christopher Tolkien, and he gathered much information from many notes and such, so the facts in Silmarillion sometimes differ from Hobbit. Don't know which one is closer to the truth, since Hobbit was written so much earlier, but Orcrist as an elven sword figures better in my opinion. :)

"Aragorn - despite the fact that he is "n" generations removed from his Elven side, the book makes abundandantly clear that in him the Kings of old are re-born. If you follow the book (rather than the film) then half-elf is not only possible, but probable. Clearly he is a Ranger, the D&D Ranger class was based on him! He has high stats all round: good with sword and bow, good endurance, above average intelligence, obviously high wisdom. As for Charisma - how do you get the most beautiful woman in Middle Earth to go for you with low Charisma?"

What a great thread! ;-)

Okay, firstly, while I may be a novice to the BG saga, when it comes to Tolkien, I'm pure alpha-geek. Aragorn is a human. Plain and simple. While he is related (many generations back) to the brother of Elrond, both Elrond and Elros were given a choice by the gods.....elven or human. Elrond, while referred to as "Elrond half-elven" is in all respects Elvish. He lives forever and has all the elven abilities that his kin,the Noldor (Galadriel, Celeborn, et al) have.

Elros, the founder of the line of kings of Numenor, while granted a greater lifespan than most men, was in the end, mortal. And that is the primary difference in Tolkien's work between the immortal spirits of the firstborn, and the mortal souls of the secondborn.

As far as Aragorn's charisma, and the hobbit's initial reaction to him, his "scary" face is part of his disguise. Sauron's agents have been seeking to end his line for some 600 years, after all. Notice by book 2 Eowyn falls for him at first sight, and by book 3 he is revealed in all his "kingly splendour"...definately a high charisma. ;-)

"I really don't remember where it was mentioned, but I'm 100% sure I've read it somewhere in the books."

That would be "The Hobbit". When the Dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf arrive at Rivendell, Elrond examines Orchrist and Glamdring and gives their histories to Gandalf and Thorin. Bilbo names Sting, and assumes it's also a Gondolin made blade because it shares the "magical glow when enemies (orcs) are near". All three blades were looted from the troll hoard.

Hi there peeps... Well, I am a BG II veteran and recently bought ToB as well. This thread, and my interest in Tolkien's MiddleEarth books, started to interest me.

So... I am not too good with the IIEP... Can someone help me. I would love to use Anduril, Sting, Mithril, Glamdring and Orcrsit... Any suggestions what would be the specs of these weapons. Post full info pls... Also, who can make the items?

@ Artega

You could try and start with the weapons from Drizzt and then edit them. I am not sure what the reason is that they are glowing (probably inscripted), but if you don't edit anything but the stats and maybe add some things, they might still glow.

If it were for my new computer that hasn't arrived yet, I would have been very busy building all kind of equipment, however it is still not delivered :(

that might help, or if that doesn't work, do a search for topics started by Craig in the SoA forum

Wolfy,

Remember Frodo is a halfling(hobbit) and thy use short swords. I might try to emulate some of the defender's characteristics and put them on a cool short sword and find other weapons that have +dmg towards certain creatures(like crom faeyer) for trolls and such. That seems to be the smartest road. Also adding text will be easy. So yeah if anyone wants to try this w/ me please do.

Thanx ya'll

Yeah he is b/c halflings all have hairy feet and sodoes bilbo and frodo and every other hobbit. Also speaking of the 2, Who is the better adventurer? I mean frodo got all the people(fellowship)but remember bilbo is the original. He got all the equipment(stinger, minthril, the ring of power, etc. Just want some feed back and also wanna thank the guy who made this thread. This is the best thread i have seen in a long time.

Thanx

You are very welcome, makes me feel all warm and gooshy inside :D

As for Bilbo vs Frodo it's not quite a fair to compare them. Frodo had an all star cast of heroes, Bilbo had dwarves.... (We all know what dwarves are good for... If someone even MENTIONS the dwarf thrower topic I'll...)

*ahem* so ya. Bilbo did come across some pretty neat stuff in his travels, but Frodo was kind of in a rush, Bilbo just took his time, searching neat little nooks and crannies. It's no surpise he found some neat trinkets, or the trinket found him in the Ring's case.
