Although I probably should, I know virtually nothing about Muse, apart from that their lead singer is called Matt Bellamy, that I like a good few of their songs and they sound a lot like Radiohead with a bit less creativity...

Hmmm...I disagree. Muse sound really very little like Radiohead..yes, they both have guitars, drums, bass and a singer, and some subject matter is in common between both bands' early songs...but muse are really an entirely different bunch of people (amazingly)...muse's aim as a band doesn't seem to be to create serious commentary on our times, or moving art, but to have the fuzziest, heaviest guitars, the biggest scales, the highest voices, the hardest beats.
People always say they are a bit circus-ish...which is true. They are like trapezists. They're not artists (as Radiohead undoubtedly are), but are just trying to make a spectacle...They are exciting, because really they are trying to push all their instruments and tunes to the limit...like turning the contrast up on a picture, until it is just brutal black and white  . All that said, they have some really catchy tunes (Plug In Baby, Sunburn etc) and Matt Bellamy really is an amazing singer...very fond of falsetto, but he can keep high notes well...long and strong, like a proper singer, instead of say, Beck, and he obviously trains his voice very hard, to the point that he has a massive range. He isn't a mopy indie type or anything...
Anyway, muse are more rock n roll than art (their new single is pretty much pure metal)...but I like rock n roll :) .

Are you still scarred by his south park set? I guess a large part of Oxford's population is  ...but I recommend Midnite Vultures very highly....it is very clever and very funny, and slick as a wet puppy  . However, many people bought Midnite Vultures and assumed that he was great...but MV is the exception...the rest of his albums (and hence his Oxford set) are mopy, plodding, miserable country. Beware the harmonica.

Scarred and scared...I bet he probably is as well. The reception he got was nothing less than Antarctic in its frostiness :D Not surprising really, when he was that bad ;) I'm not sure I could really buy anything of his, but I might give it a try if you say it's that good...
