"Why are you laying here in the middle of the forest?"
Visibly annoyed with her blunt question, Halya smiled a bit nervously but kindly towards this strange lady. She received a kind smile in return. “Don’t worry about it.” She said, swiping the embarrassment aside with a gesture of her hand. “I’d be curious too if I were you.”
Serena leaned down and picked up the small white bunny. She placed it in her embrace and stroked it kindly. For a seconds, she focused only on the bunny, a twinkle was clearly noticeable in her eyes. Then she snapped back to reality and looked up to Halya. “I’m just travelling… but I should take better care of myself. I was kind of overrun with hunger and lack of sleep.”
The bunny showed signs of boredom and Serena lowered in onto the forest ground, it hopped of into the nearby bushes. Both of the women’s eyes followed the gentile creature until it was completely out of sight, focusing on each other after it disappeared.
Serena rose to her feet and look down to her clothes. “Ow no, has it rained while I was… asleep?” Her clothes sticked to her body showing her well formed curves clearly, her hair carelessly hanging down her face, it made her look a bit helpless. A sight that few men would be able to resist.
She twisted her hair with her hands forcing the rain water to drup out in an attempt to dry herself up. “Sooo…” She said, unsure what to say. “I’m hungry, how about you?” Hoping Halya had food and didn’t mind sharing with a stranger.

“My pardon for the wait. Shall we be off?”
Magus stepped down from a pile of rubble, positioning his feat carefully to keep his balance trying not to break the illusion of him being eager to get on the road. As he cleared the rubble, he firmly trusted his staff into the ground. “Well?”
Gurney grinned as he followed Magus’s actions to cover his fatigue. “Yes, I think it’s about time to leave. Any further delay will only work to our disadvantage.”
Immediately Magus started walking, leading the way for the others. As Gurney followed Magus’s lead, he decided it would be wise to keep the spirits up. With his right hand, he grabbed his ballist from his back; tokkled a few notes to tune the sensitive instrument once again.
It was hard to play the instrument while walking but since he wouldn’t earn any money anyway, he didn’t think twice about it. As he was thinking about which song to play he remembered last night. “Magus, what was the name of your small friend again?”
Surprised by this question Magus looked over to his left, facing Gurney. “I take it you mean Celestia, but why do you ask?” Ten small fingers grabbed the rim of Magus’s pocket and Cel pulled herself up, curious as to why her name was mentioned.
Gurney smiled at Magus and then down at Cel. ”You’ll see.”
There was something about the small pixy that intrigued and inspired him.
He didn’t have time to actually write a song about her just yet because of all the commotion last night, so he had to improvise.
Softly he ran his fingers over the snares and let the words come to him.
Flying high…
gracious yet strong.
Does she know
Does she see
Does she feel
What we miss…
Her soft kiss…
Ignorant bliss.
She is free.
Let your wings unfold,
sheer through the sky up in the clouds…
so high.
What is this I feel,
a sensation so real.
Why can’t we all be,
just a little more…
like she?

Return of the fallen paladin
“Is he dead?”
“I dunno… lets poke him with a stick and see what happens.”
“Euw, that’s gross!”
“Come on Jimmy, let’s tell mom and dad.”
“What are you nuts? You know we’re not supposed to get this far out of town, not after what happened last night. We could get in trouble.”
“Should… should we just leave him here then?”
“Look out! He’s moving!”
Slowly a pair of eyes opened, heavily protesting against the bright sunlight.
After somewhat getting used to the light, he saw two kids standing on a safe distance, torn between fear and curiosity. A boy holding a stick pushed back a smaller girl as if he was trying to protect her. The vision was blurry and unclear… it made him nauseous. His mind clouded and his body aching.

“Well-played, my friend,” commented Magus with a grin, applauding. He glanced down at Celestia. She’d been asleep mere minutes, and already she was back on her feet, lively as ever. “What do you think, Cel?”
“Music is pretty.” She eyed the instrument curiously. Suddenly she launched herself from her pocket into the air, landing on the ballist before Gurney could even look surprised. She plucked the strings for a moment, quite an effort for one as small as her, listening to the sounds they made. Then, dumbfounding everyone, she plucked out a halting high C octave.
“Too big for Cel,” she finally remarked, glaring prettily at Gurney like it was his fault. She flew back to Magus and settled on his shoulder, apparently losing interest. Magus just shook his head wonderingly.
Does she know
Does she see
Does she feel…
He found he was softly humming the song to himself. A catchy tune, really. He smiled. It was good to travel with company for a change. He glanced at the others. Gurdio and Gurney were deep in conversation, earnestly debating the contributions of lighting versus music in a performance. Acolytus hung off to the side, as grim and dour as always.
“Nice day, isn’t it?” Magus commented, drifting back a little as he spoke. They were just reaching the end of town, the grassy hills rising before them.

Lost Souls: A bereft lover. A masterless familiar. Friends gone their separate ways. Time marches on, and destiny heralds the meeting of comrades old and new. Can they find what they're seeking? Or will the search bring them only more pain?
Acolytus and Greppun followed behind the three other members on their journey outbound from the Umar hills. Acolytus heard mummers of singing from the bard, the mage, and his familiar. However, Acolytus did not bother to pay attention to the songs or the dialogue between the members of the group. Acolytus only kept a keen ear at the surrounding territory and Greppun, by his side. Visually, Acolytus kept his eye on the tip of his spear. He lightly brushed his thumb on the smooth metal surface of the head of the spear.
“Nice day, isn’t it?” Magus commented, drifting back a little as he spoke. They were just reaching the end of town, the grassy hills rising before them.
Acolytus' eyes shifted from the head of the spear to the mage. "Aye. With each growing step away from this man-made establishment makes the day that much nicer," Acolytus responded. "But as far as this day being called nice, as a whole, I am not sure what you are referring to. Do you like getting sacked in your sleep and seeing a person, whom you care for deeply, get hurt badly?" Acolytus continued. Acolytus waited for no response. "Right. Id much prefer leave this day and this establishment behind me." Acolytus' grasp on the spear became firm. "Yes. Redemption shall be mine, and balance shall be restored in the process."
As the group got closer to the more woodsy surroundings, Acolytus took in a deep breath, and seemed to feel more at ease. "Ah, do you feel it? Do you?" Acolytus' eyes opened up. "That is life. All around us." Acolytus opened his one free hand. A finch from a nearby small tree flew over in a rush towards the druid. He landed on Acolytus' index finger and looked up at the druid with its black, beady eyes with anticipation and happiness. The bird chirped with great glee in his heart before taking off into a different tree bearing fruit. Acolytus gently closed his hand once the bird took off. "Now, THIS is civilization."

“Caw, Caw!” The call of the wild calls you. Are you listening? Do you dare challenge their power? Do you dare invade? Nature will always triumph in the end.

she knew that she was not really supposed to do this, but the whole situation was highly unorthodox in the first place... "im sure i have something you can eat in here somewhere" Halya mumbeld and began to feel around in her little backpack.. she found an apple and threw it to the woman.. "here" he said and smiled.. the woman looked at the apple with a face like *what am i to do with this crap?*, but she smiled charmingly and said "thank you little Halya" and began to eat the apple..
Halya stepped back to the tree and sat up against it again.. so what now?.. what was she to do?, she really wished her father would have been there to give her guidiance

Keeping a firm pass, the 4 men elapsed a good distance in little time. Around them the signs of civilisation slowly faided and nature grew stronger. Acolytus noticeably relaxed and joined in more in conversations only separating himself from the group once in a while to enjoy nature in all it’s beauty and silence.
After a few hours of walking, they decided that a short brake would be welcome. Acolytus knew these parts woods and suggested too rest on an open spot nearby. As they approached the open spot, it appeared they were not alone. Two women could clearly be seen, one sitting on a tree stump eating an apple and the other leaning against a tree.

Acolytus saw the two figures in the clearing and did not hesitate for one moment. In an instant he had his spear aggressively pointing towards the two figures in the distance. They were not close enough to the two to see any detail, but Acolytus knew that these people were not of druidic discent, and therefor, could be potential enemies, especially because they were located near heart of these woods. Acolytus then became unsure of whether he wanted to gain the attention of the strangers to find out their business, or make a sneak attack, thereby increasing their chances of victory. Acolytus knew naught whether these figures were of his fighting level. Then again, these figures seemed relaxed, and looked unprepared for battle. With that in mind, the druid made his decision.
Acolytus shouted to the clearing where the two figures lay, "Who are you, why are you here, and why should I spare you from the wrath of nature?"
Acolytus' brow wrinkled in anger as he prepared for a potential battle. Acolytus' grasp tightened on the spear as he anxiously anticipated the response of strangers.

As they were walking, Magus’s thoughts drifted back again to the paladin. He hated to admit it, but he was feeling a bit guilty. He sighed. They really should have asked around to see if he was okay before they left. Oh well, nothing to do for it now.
As usual, one line of thought branched into another, and before long he was retracing the events of the past two days. Indeed, so much had happened it hardly seemed possible for it to have occurred in the span of but a couple days. The fight with the thugs, the mysterious woman, the recovery of his spellbook, the marauding worgs, his brush with death that morning…it was all happening so fast. And now here he was, inextricably caught in some sort of family feud, if the barkeep’s tale was to be trusted. He shook his head wearily, beginning to wonder if he hadn’t been a tad impetuous in setting out on this little adventure.
Come to think of it, why was he getting so morose all of the sudden? They had been traveling together for what, a few hours, and already he was having second thoughts? He looked around. Everyone else seemed to be in high spirits. Even Acolytus seemed more relaxed.
He was just tired; that was probably it. No doubt he would feel better after a good night’s rest. He glanced at Celestia, wondering how she was holding up. She sat on his shoulder, looking rather bored. He smiled despite himself. She seemed to be back to her usual carefree self, at least.
Seeing the clearing ahead, Magus breathed a sigh of relief. His feet were positively killing him. Given, he was a traveler, but these folks kept a pretty brisk pace, and he was still sore from the morning’s fall. He brought his hand gingerly to his eye, his most irksome injury of the day. It still hurt a little bit, but he was surprised to find the sharp pain of before virtually gone.
He was about to thank Acolytus when he saw movement in the clearing. As they drew closer, he got a good look at two people sitting in front of a tree. By the Gods! It was that woman! Her companion, a young wood-elf by the looks of her, was probably younger than he was, and he was half-elven. What was she doing with this...unbalanced young woman? Had her cryptic rantings attracted her some sort of perverse following?
Abruptly he saw a flash of metal to his right. Acolytus brandished his spear threateningly. Alarmed, Magus hoped the volatile druid wouldn’t do anything rash.
"Who are you?” Acolytus shouted, silencing him before he could get a word in. “Why are you here, and why should I spare you from the wrath of nature?"
Puzzled, Magus realized that Acolytus didn't realize who they were dealing with. That’s right—being human, his vision probably wasn’t quite as good. Maybe the situation was still salvageable; though he wondered if Acolytus was always this confrontational with strangers. He gently touched the druid’s arm. “Peace, my friend. Violence begets violence, and we have no need for another battle this day,” he whispered, quickly but firmly. He turned to the pair in the clearing and took a step forward. “Excuse my comrade’s harsh words. He’s a bit mistrustful of strangers—but you must agree that the woods have a reputation for harboring the less-than-lawful sort.”
He then turned his attention to the woman from the Inn, choosing his next words slowly, and carefully. “That aside...we’d like to ask some questions of you. The Umar Inn was sacked by bandits this morning. We were among those caught in the fighting, and we thought you might know something of the matter—Serena. That is your name, correct? It seems the thugs were in the employ of Baron Izquierda...your step-father, as I understand it.”
Sensing Acolytus’s grip tighten convulsively on his spear, he glanced at him and shook his head, imploring him to stay his hand for the moment. Then he looked back at Serena, cautiously waiting for her reaction...and uncertain what to expect.

Acolytus became, ultimately frustrated at the mage for intervening, however, Acolytus maintained his composure and simply sighed. Acolytus thought to himself, "Serena, eh? Could it be?" Acolytus took a few steps forward. The sun shuddered through the nearby trees of the woods. Within the clearing, the sun beamed with more intensity, and details became clearer within each step Acolytus made. Acolytus then realized it was that same Serena, and the mage's questions grew clear.
"I....I.." Greppun nudged Acolytus in the knee before he could spit out the words in his mouth. The druid then backed up a step and held the spear in a defensive position, not knowing what to expect.

Serena took a bite of the apple, the fruits sap slid down her cheek. “Hmm juicy… thank you” The apple tasted well and it somewhat satisfied her appetite. She smiled thankfully at Halya and then continued eating.
There was something about this forest that made her feel it ease. She enjoyed her Halyas company, liking her innocence. It had been a long time since she last felt so at peace.
She looked up and noticed that the sun was already high in the sky hidden behind a lot of clouds, time had passed fast today. Even though it had rained and the rays of the sun were blocked by the clouds, the temperature was pleasant.
Serena arched her back and stretched her arms above her head. “Hmm, I’m stiff all over. I guess I’ve been sitting for to long now.” She stood up and walked several feet, it immediately made her feel better. Taken
Just as she wanted to talk to Halya about absolutely nothing, she heard twigs breaking in the bushes and something sweeping against the branches. Halya had noticed it too, her eyes focused on the same part as where Serena heard the sound.
A man appeared, holding a spear in front of him in an aggressive posture. "Who are you, why are you here, and why should I spare you from the wrath of nature?"
Upon this harsh and uncalled for threat, Halya noticed a change in Serena. The smile had vanished from her face and her eyes seemed somewhat empty.
“Evil men… they have followed me here. They want to hurt me.”
Both women were unsure what to say to such a thing and the calling was left unanswered. “Excuse my comrade’s harsh words.” A second man stepped out of the cover of the forest.
“He’s a bit mistrustful of strangers—but you must agree that woods have a reputation for harbouring the less-than-lawful sort.”
This man was more sophisticated then the previous.
Serena recognised him too from the inn. “Evil…” She softly whispered, but her words were less powerful then before. It was as if she doubted about her words. The memory of the man’s magic which he used against her, harmless as it was, reassured her beliefs.
“That aside...we’d like to ask some questions of you. The Umar Inn was sacked by bandits this morning. We were among those caught in the fighting, and we thought you might know something of the matter—Serena. That is your name, correct?”
How does he know my name? Why did they follow me here?
“It seems the thugs were in the employ of Baron Izquierda...your step-father, as I understand it.”
The man was very direct and forward, too direct and forward.
He knew things he should not know… “Why can’t you just leave me alone?” The words erupting from her mouth. “Why must I suffer? The threats and the pain… why… ” The volume of her voice dropped rapidly.
She stood alone, alone in the middle of the middle of the open spot in the forest with no one with her. Her fists clenched together, turning the tops of her fingers red. Tears burned behind her eyes and she fought against crying.

Halya stood and stared at the senario infront of her.. the woman -serena aparently belived these men to be evil.. but still she noticed that the one that spoke urged another one to lower his weapon.. what was this?.. but whatever business they had, they apperntly was interested in Serena.. Halya was burtally torn from her musings, when she suddenly heard someone say
“It seems the thugs were in the employ of Baron Izquierda...your step-father, as I understand it.”
her blood froze.. Baron Izquierda!.. Ai.. her mother used to tell her storys about him, to scare her... and this woman was his kindred?.. all her mussels tensed.. and her knuckels on he hand holding the bow, went white from the grip.. she looked from the group of intruders to serena.. and bit her lip...
they apprently forgot her, wich was good... she took some steps backwards slowly..
but suddenly the man that appeared to Halya to ba some kind of mage, suddenly turned his head towards her.. "and you?.. what is your business here child" .. Halya stopped backing away from the scene.. and crossed her arms, in a defensive move... "my business here, is mine alone!" she hissed.. regretting her words afterwards.. he had called her child, and she had reacted so..

The others had left Ae'siir and Lilth sitting, huddled together, into the half burnt grass, the sond of the still smoldering inn off to the side, the smoke still thick in the air, the smell puncturing their fine senses. Neither moved until the group was out of sight, neither wishing to. Lilth held Ae'siir's head to her chest, cupping both arms around him, her eyes closed. Ae'siir was still weak, having lost a lot of blood during his lapse. He clasped one of Lilth's hands while his breathing become more steady.
When the group was finally out of sight, Ae'siir gave a small grunt, and pushed himself free of Lilth's embrace, and to his feet. Though his knees still seemed like water, the stoic elf forced himself to his feet, a grim look of determination carved onto his face. Lilth backed off knowingly, allowing Ae'siir to do this on his own. When the larger elf finally steadied himself, he gave a breif glance to Lilth, and motioned with his head in the direction the group went off to.
"They must'nt think us of enemies." He looked in the direction they had left. "And I feel they are searching for something similar to us..." Lilth nodded, and followed Ae'siir.

Acolytus' heart began to swell in pain. He closed his eyes and hung his head. "Aye, I recognize the language you speak. It is the language of pain...of grief. I...I apologize for my rather rude call to you." Acolytus took a deep breath, fighting emotional outbreaks. "You see, I have lost loved ones, I too, have suffered. I cannot..." Acolytus could not finish his sentence. Acolytus' grip on the spear loosened and the spear, quietly, dropped to the floor. Acolytus kneeled down to the grass and dirt that surrounded the clearing. "I know naught who my enemies or friends are, all I can trust are those I have known, and those I do not know are those that cannot be trusted. As far as I know, you cannot be trusted. It is nothing personal, you see. I hear your musings and calls of evil. You see, that is exactly what I am fighting against. There cannot be one who does evil, because evil disturbs the balance. The same can be said to those who seek to do pure "good". Anything that disturbs the balance of nature or tips the scales of good and evil must be dealt with."
Acolytus picked himself up off the ground. "You see, evil usually needs to be faught because evil is seeded deeper and is much more distructive then good. I know naught what elements dwell within your body. Therefor, I know naught whether you can be trusted. But I sense something powerful within you, something that cannot be ignored." Acolytus picked up the spear and backed off into the shadows cast from the nearby flourished trees. Greppun followed closely behind him. Acolytus kept a keen ear to the surroundings, particularly to the dialogue from the mage and the stranger.

Serena’s reaction took Magus completely by surprise. He stood there for a moment, speechless. Was this the same woman who had barged sullenly into the Inn last night, explosively proclaiming her vengeful intent to all as she stalked out the door? He had expected posturing, threats…maybe even a struggle. He had kept his manner direct and to the point, judging that such was the way to get her attention and gain her respect. And now this…
As he wondered what to say next, he saw the elven girl starting to slip away. The look on her face was plain: she was scared. He began to wonder just what her relationship was to Serena. Regardless, he couldn’t just let her leave. “And you?” he called out gently, getting her attention. “What is your business here, child?”
She stopped and faced him, crossing her arms defensively…a curious move, considering she didn’t have weapons drawn. "My business here is mine alone!" she hissed.
Ah, the fire of youth. So idealistic…and so easily upset. He sighed. This wasn’t going particularly well, was it?
Next to him, a sudden change came over Acolytus. His words were relenting, even apologetic, as he opened himself to these strangers as Magus had never seen him do before. The wonders never ceased, it seemed. Finished, Acolytus turned and walked back into the forest. Magus decided to leave him be; he probably had a lot on his mind. Magus suddenly felt acutely alone.
Wondering how Celestia was reacting, he glanced at his shoulder. Nothing. He looked into his pocket. Empty.
She was gone.

Seeing the mage’s sigh, Halya, beginning to feel guilty, was regretting her words even more. She half-listened to the spearman’s apology, but it only confused her more. What was going on? Why did she have to be stuck in the middle of all of this?
“You mean,” said a tiny voice.
Caught off guard, Halya spun around. Hovering not a meter away was a little faerie, glaring at her reproachfully.
“Creepy-eyed people all mean,” the faerie declared. She shook her finger at Halya. “You just stay away from Magus. And keep your bad hands away from him!” She flew off in a flash and landed on the mage’s shoulder. He was clearly surprised.
Halya looked at him more closely. Though he called her “child,” he didn’t look that old himself. His features were those of a half-elf, his blue eyes slanted like an elf’s, yet more rounded, like a human’s. He carried his shoulder-length silver hair with dignity, and his dark blue-violet robes were sharp and impeccable. After whispering something to the faerie he looked at Halya abruptly, and his eyes met hers.
“Mae govannen,” he greeted her in flawless Elven. “I see you have met my familiar, Celestia, though I fear her words may have been unkind,” he continued in the dialect of her people. Hearing her name, Celestia glanced at him, confused, as if she couldn’t understand what he’d said.

Around her were the sounds of talking voices, but Serena didn’t hear any words, only sounds. She didn’t care, and as always, she was alone.
Unsure of how to act, she glanced over to Halya whom she somewhat trusted. Halya was in a conversation with the distinguished gentelman, but she didn’t seem eager to speak. Serena’s look, hoping to find an ally, did not go unnoticed. But Halya had not responded, yet.
Luckily, the aggressive man had left into the bushes. Serena was glad he was gone, even though he thought they had something in common. She convinced herself that she was nothing like him.
Since she was no longer the focus of this conversation, Serena suddenly realized how tired she was. The effect of the apple was gone and the effort of traveling for days with little food and sleep once again caught up with her. She took a few steps back and sat down on the tree stump in the centre of the clear spot. She sat down to fast and felt a bit dizzy.

Gurney followed the events before him and figured that the wise thing to do was to let Magus do the talking. He seemed competed enough and there were no real signs that indicated violence of any sort. Since the mage didn’t need any protection, he decided to go after Acolytus.
Gurney liked this troubled young man and wanted to make sure he didn’t do any things he would regret later.
He stepped though some bushes and saw Acolytus standing nearby. Acolytus stared straight forward, his eyes focused on nothing but noticing everything around him none there less. Gurney stepped next to him and laid his hand on the druids shoulder.
Silence seemed best right now.

"What did i have to drink last night and who the heck threw me out of the city towers?" were the first thoughts in Mursalins mind. His body was racked with pain and he couldnt focus his thoughts at all. In a vain attempt, he tried to open his eyes, only to feel the sunlight pierce his mind like a hot metal rod burning into flesh. The pain was bearable, but in his weakened state, Mursalin once again lapsed into darkness....

Halya looked amazed at the beautyful halfelf and his familiar.. and when she suddenly herd him speak elven, she was taken by surprice.. he continues saying something about the farie, but she didnt listen... Halya just smiled a bright smile, knowing too well that it would be stupid to let her guards down just because he talked elven.. she took a step towards him and greated him with placing her hand on her heart.. "Mae govannen Peredhil.. îm Halya..ár îm il'hên!" she took her hand from her chest again and looked at the halfelf and the farie.. "and you?" she asked switching back to common "may i ask your name?"

A few hours had passed and Mursalin regained consciousness once again.
He expected to see forest around him, perhaps a kid or two poking him with a stick again. Instead, he found himself lying on his back on a soft bed in an unknown house. The house was decorated with a strange collection of masks and figurines. His weapons stood against a wooden table on witch many herbs laid.
Confused, he tried getting up. He felt a stinging pain in his head, as he grabbed his head in pain; he found that it was bounded. Poorly but sufficient.
“Carefull.” The gentle voice came from behind him. He tried looking but the pain made him give up and a hand on his shoulder softly forced him down. Laying on his back again, he saw a girl looking back at him. She was about his age and he caught himself staring at her. He blushed.
“Sorry. I did mean too…” She pulled back some hairs witch hung in front of her face and put it behind her ear. “Never mind.” She said and she smiled.
“My little brother and sister found you in the forest. They warned me, even though they were not supposed to be there, and I dragged you here. You are pretty heavy you know.”
Mursalin smiled, unsure what to say.
“What happened?”
“I’ll tell you later, but now I need to get father. He can heal you better then I can. It will take a day or two since we do it the old fashioned way.”
She stood up from her chair and leaned over to him, then she carefully tucked him in and smiled. “Try to rest, I’ll be back soon.” Then she turned and ran out the front door.

"And you?" Halya asked, switching back to Common. "May I ask your name?"
"I am Magus," he replied in Common with a small bow. His attempt to lighten the mood seemed to have succeeded. She was smiling now, in stark contrast to the forceful rebuff that first greeted him. Looking into her smiling face, he was suddenly struck by her youthful beauty. He had yet to meet an elven lass that wasn't pleasant to look upon...but she was remarkable even among her kind. Catching himself staring, he cleared his throat self-consciously, reminding himself of the gravity of the task at hand. "My apology, I meant no disrespect...though 'tis rude of me to call such a lovely young lady a child" he added with a rueful smile. He didn't notice the soft little "hmph" from his shoulder.
His attention was diverted from his newest acquaintence when he saw the tired Serena stagger back and collapse on the tree stump behind her. He hesitated for a moment, then seemed to come to a decision. Slowly he approached her, his voice calmly gentle. "I apologize for us barging in on the pair of you like this. We too have a score to settle with the Baron, and from your words at the Inn last night, we thought you might be able to help us. Were we wrong?" he asked softly, standing only three meters away.
