I'd have to get your date, time and place of birth to answer that.

Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn. Saturn is also seen as Father Time - a lot of the issues Capricorns face have to do with taking responsibility, facing up to restrictions, plodding onwards, thinking in a sober way and being parental.

If we knew where your moon was, we could ascertain more of what that means to you personally.

You might consider starting a thread on astrology, if you'd like, @Fairmaiden. Hardly anyone knows much about it, and most people are skeptical of it based on pop culture ideas.

I don't really know the arguement of WHY astrology makes sense, I just know that it does to me personally.

But maybe I'll start such a thread...

I try to keep an open mind about such things. Tarot is more of my interest; and when people point out to me that it makes no reasonable sense at all, I can honestly reply, "Well of course. Anybody can see that." It just works for me. :)

I also have had an interest in tarot. My mum has been a medium and a healer for a long time so I've always had that kind of thing in my life.

Interesting: I've done a little healing work, too, mainly with therapeutic touch (and a few personal additions). You do know that many hospitals now train nurses in therapeutic touch, and by that I don't mean in California, alone? Everybody's very ginger about discussing the theory, but there seems to be a growing awareness that it works. I learned it before it was called that, when we were working with energy lines in the body--I'm sure your mother did, too.

My interest in tarot precedes my formal change of religion, twenty-five years ago, to Wicca, so I've been reading the cards and using 'em for meditation for three decades, now. Do you have a favorite deck or decks you use?

I used to work in an esoteric bookshop called Watkins (it's quite famous coz the Golden Dawn fellowship used to meet there in Victorian times) and there I was exposed to lots of alternative and esoteric ideas and met some interesting pagans.

I don't really use tarot, like I use astrology - I don't think it's quite for me. But at home I have the Morgan Greer and Connolly decks.

There are so many ancient sites in the UK, especially SW England where wiccans and pagans meet. My mother is really into crop circles and the legends of Glastonbury and moved down there recently.

If you consider its population there are few esoteric book/supply stores in the US, discounting those that emphasize Asian studies. Even New York City lost its primary store. Quite a few have sprung up on the Web, but I'm not sure how many of those will survive, given that they offer many of the same supplies. Some are very elaborate sites; others appear to be run simply as a side business, with the most basic of structures.

I have to wonder if the mood of the nation isn't involved, somehow. The US has never been a terribly tolerant of different religions, and with the religious right having made political inroads, it's possible merchants catering to the religious needs of alternative groups perceive themselves as under threat. I may be wrong; maybe it's just that the Internet makes it much easier to appeal to a speciality audience than a physical shop does. :)
