I don't think so... my experience at university has shown me that some people are so eager to be liberal that they forfeit their own comfort and sensibilties to accomodate others. Furthermore, a lot of people at my school will take this enthusiasm to be liberal to the extent that they will agressively defend things they don't even agree with.

Probably a member of the secretive International Haggis Lodge, whose motto is "From a sheep's stomach, straight into your mouth." I used to like buffalo steaks, once upon a time, but I've given up beef for years. Have you ever tried ostrich burgers? I've noticed them showing up in some supermarkets. Apparently healthier for you than beef (or so I've been told), but much more expensive. I suppose it's all that effort spent pulling an ostrich's head out of the ground.

To those who suggested making jams, and so on. That's really not a bad idea at all. Since breadbaking and the like can be quite cheering and suit a grey day nicely.

So do desserts and liquor. Lower in carbohydrates, too.

I have to agree, but really when thinking of the institution, is that really such a bad thing? I mean, nice white pretty, bouncy walls, you get to play with crayons, eat applesauce. I mean when you think about it, who is really sane anyways? My reality is formed by my perception, hence the world is different for me than for anyone else. It could be that because I see in shades of pink and purple I am the ONLY sane one on the face of the earth, and all else are nuts ? Well anyways, proving what is reality is such a personal thing, and my world revolves around a slightly scued perception!

My reality is tipped on its axis.

There's a subset of liberalism I call "masochistic liberals." They seem to derive joy from being put down by those currently defined as minority groups. The equal but opposite force is "sadistic conservatives," who feel they've done the world a great deal of good by making fun of the starving, disadvantaged, and handicapped.

Well In my school, everyone is striving to be different, to be unique that they all just manage to be the same, in really twisted ways. I mean why is it that so many conform to non-conformity?

That seems to be the case, doesn't it? Dark chocolate is actually good for you: it's now regarded as a vital food, whereas milk chocolate is very bad for you. Yet milk chocolate is cheap, and dark chocolate is expensive. Moral: All the good things in life were put here by whatever deity you believe in strictly for the wealthy. Either become wealthy, or shut up and die.

You know, a few of those and I could become a popular US commentator.

I dunno, irony? I have no problem with conforming, personally, but it isn't something I actively try to do. I just float along in my merry bubble of ignorance, and whatever happens, happens.

Agreed: conformity is a non-issue. It should be a matter of thinking carefully and clearly for oneself, but children who reach puberty tend to react to perceptions of rote thinking in the simplest possible anti-response of diametrically opposed beliefs.

My thoguht on conformity

I tend to agree, I have no problem with those who conform to any definition , but what I do have a problem with , is people who are so huge on non conformity, that they fail to see that they have become what they have striven against.

Me, I just live my life, Me and My partner, we dont try to fit into anything persay, but also, when standing bvack and looking on , you begin to realize, that wether or not you try to fit in, you either do or do not, trying is irrelevant, and those who try, usuaally end up as posers

ostrich burgers are very good! We are in the extremely lucky situation of living near a butcher that specialises in game and free range/organic meats. Even more fortunate is that they are *very* reasonable in price. Three buffalo tri tip steaks come a total of $7.
And everything they sell is excellent.

Regarding the discussion on so-called liberals...
Those people who try desperately to not conform, and thus become conformist, really, really irritate me...
Especially annoying are those who listen to Indy music precisely because it is not mainstream. The moment the band in question becomes popular these twits stop listening to them.. because they live in dire fear of somebody, somewhere believing them to be conformist...
We have lots of them in Vancouver...

I don't think so. I meant that kids, once they develop a sense of independence, could free themselves from the thought patterns they perceive as conformity in their parents by learning literally how to think. Consider: if your parents favored Bush, the best response of someone who wanted to be different from them would be to research, and decide where Bush might be right, or wrong, and why.

Instead, the response most kids take is to simply because an ideological inversion of their parents. So Bush stinks, but if you ask why, they don't know; he simply does. This is just as mindless a reaction as their parents, but it isn't seen by them as such, since they're trying to not conform.

Guess I'm saying, the reason this non-conformity dies out is because it's rooted only in a mindless desire to be separate, not to really arrive at any truths or sense of reality.

Something I find funny about that trend is that I used to be like that... in grade school. My reaction was a little different, however: I'd like a band, and then YEARS later they become mainstream popular... I wouldn't stop listening to them, but I'd react bitterly to people who pretended as though they'd always liked those bands.

But I'm over that, now. And really, it was a good phase to go through, because it was part of what taught me that trying to cling to media-defined individuality is nonsense.
