Um.... Has anyone thought about putting this thread in the proper forum? To my understanding GameBanshee Discussion was created for changes just like this, it is also the only place I have ever seen Buck post, so it might get his attention, so he can see all the facts before yall draft a formal request.

And for the record, if this thread is moved or started over, the poll needs to be changed, there is no button for those who are indifferent.

If you don't care don't vote?

I don't care. I think if there is no argument against it people should have it and so far I have seen nothing except Ik's posts which tries to make a case against. If there is none then I will vote yes, if the poll it to be used as part of a request. But I think someone needs to pull the proposal together. I cannot imagine reading all of this thread will be conducive to a positive response. I dont mean to imply there is anything wrong with it but the reasons are a little obscured and I don't yet get a sense of concensus about what exactly is being proposed as a mechanism.

I'll go ahead and vote yes because I can't think of a reason not to. Apart from Buck wishing to reserve the feature for paying subscribers in the future, I guess.

edit: however, basing them on post-count is a horrible atrocious idea that should be run into the ground. The last thing this forum needs is more crappy posts which don't communicate anything across.

IMHO.

Not really...there's a difference between saying you don't care about the issue and being interested and not minding either way. That's why I haven't voted, I'm more in the centre, rather than Yes/No.

I voted no. Don't see a real need for it, I think we have enough customization as it is.

@ Denethorn. I don't see a real need for it either. But I am not sure why that should be the approach. Rather I see no real need not to have it. And if not, why not? ;)

Well, I would say having the title as customizable might devalue/detract the title of moderator/super moderator etc.

There are occasions when a mod's authority should be recognized, don't see it often on SYM but it does happen :p . To be quite honest I'm relatively indifferent, but I'm going to be an old git and go with no ;)

@ Denethorn.I can't really believe it would undermine the mods, but it is your choice, of course :)

In my self appointed role as Uberpartypooper (note the complete disregard for the cultural sensibilities in proper use of the umlat), I would shun any more of the 'fluffy dice' appearing on this forum. I long ago gave up hoping for sensible sig use here and have had the 'view signature' option turned off for over five years. If I could turn off: 'Display animated avatar', 'Stupid location', 'Demented Custom Title', 'Annoying Smilies' I'd do that too.

An option that included a negative contribution for useless spam towards total post count would also be a plus, although I favour more permanent solutions.....

then maybe the mods/supers would have a small badge next to their name or title?

No, because then everyone would want their own customizable badge, aside from their avatars. However moderators would be the only ones who could use the term 'Moderator' in their title, and also they could not remove it form ther title, just like... uh... that guys: 'Moderator and Board Bimbo'

And I also hold to my point that this thread is in the wrong forum, this is a change that would effect everybody, it should be placed in a forum in which more people will be abel to see and comment on it, *looks at mods*, just my opinion, if you think it is cool where it is than thats cool, but i thought the rest of GB should be able to see this thread...

what i mean is a small detail that sets the authorities apart from the rest of us... your idea is good, maybe use yours aswell as mine?

i'm not talking a big pic, just a small image, maybe 15x15?

a silver one for the mods
a gold one for supers
and a custom flame or something for buck

First of all, I don't think I could see any of the mods wanting that..unless they had Wild West fantasies.. :p Could be wrong though... :D

Second, I don't really think it would be necessary, and it would add clutter.
If anything at all, I'd suggest something a bit more subtle, like maybe having the moderator title in a somewhat bolder font, and perhaps in a slightly more intense colour.
But, I don't really think any of the aforementioned is needed, to be honest ;)

Maybe as a border around their avatars, but it depends on Bucks mercy

Although I dont know about Buck's Flame, I mean his location pretty much narrows his identity down to one of three people. He is Located in the Nine Hells, implying that he can freely move among the circles. Only three people in literary histort have been able to do that: Jesus *shudders*, he can be ruled out as the second coming would probably cause a bigger splash in the world than this forum has; Dante, he can be ruled out as AFAIK buck doesnt wear funny blue hats and write poetry all day; Virgil, *ding ding ding*, Virgil is the allegory of Human Reason in Dante's Inferno, Buck is a reasonable man.... *slowly walks away.

I could honestly care less, but one thing I would ask is, would this replace the Exalted Member tag underneath names? Out of curiosity, of course...

Really, having a postcount mark for when this particular perk becomes active has been used by many sites accross the internet. One I can think of set the amount to fifty posts, giving time for members to settle in and enjoy posting before leaving... right now, the average of Posters to Total Forum Posts is 29 per each. Well, with Rav around, that might increase, but still, this is a fairly low number for many forums on the internet.

Although many may argue that this will lead to spam, we already have to delete some spam from the forums at least weekly. If people spam to get to that point, then remove the posts and the ability will disapear. There are moderators in place. Not all members will spam, mind you, to get to these point in posts anyways. Many will become helpful members, or post their opinions in such things as favorite threads or upcoming gaming forums, or Buck's polls, or even comment on news. If there is a way to get these members to stick around just a bit longer, just a few more moments, they might grow the like GameBanshee more than seeing it as a place to get answers. It worked on other forums, it might work here.

Besides, this is just like sigs. Another place to be creative. In another way it's like post count. You reached exalted, but we really don't care otherwise about post count. For some newer members, having this would be nice, and getting there might be a bit of fun. Who knows? We might net a few more people with good senses of humour who come through SYM, and this place has begun the ebb in activity recently.

Fifty is not all that high either. I mean, Ravager had it in about two days... bad example. Still, I had fifty within a week. To some of our quintimple numbers, fifty posts are a drop in the water.

I also could care less about any post count titles. Just another name on the forum to me, but some could get amusment out of creating them and seeing them being used around the forum.

Seeing how this question was not answered...

The title populates automatically into our profiles. If that does not work, Buck alters it himself.

Maybe more post per day, and maybe more unregistered visitors, but I see alot more people posting at GB discussion than in SYM, these people come from all of the forums, and give a better representation of the GB population as a whole, while SYM does have a little bit of everything, the little guy has a better change of putting in a word edgewise (not that he wouldnt be respected here, he just may be too intimidated to psot here, but thats another thread).

Also, threads like this one were the reason that forum was created, to discuss ideas and changes to the GameBanshee site.

Phreddie,
if you feel so strongly, why don't you place a thread in GB Discussion describing the purpose of this one, and providing a link to it? :)

IMO, that would be the best of both worlds.
Just ask for it to be locked once you have posted, so that we don't have duplicate discussions going on.

My original suggestion was to have this thread moved to the GameBanshee Discussion Forum, but I havent seen any SYM mods today so I dont if or when that will happen.
