It sounds better than with Tarja on vocal duties (don't hang me now, I'm not even a Nightwish fan).
Still, I prefer HolyHell over Nightwish any day

Quite a few, and I'm not only talking about the musics, but the audio quality.Moonbiter wrote:You really haven't heard many live albums, have you?
You might say that No Sleep 'til Hammersmith is the best (or something else), but sound quality and equipment has come long way since '81.

Iced Earth: Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Pat 1)
Very good album, and worth the money. 19 songs (although 3 are instrumentals). I think this should give Owens more credit from the Barlow fans than The Glorious Burden did.

Found out another good powermetal band, called Accept.
It's form early 70's, and they made their last album in 1996.
They have couple of good albums, especially Breaker (1981), Objection Overruled (1993) and Predator (1996)
I highly recommend, I was myself very suprised how good the band is.

You might want to check out U.D.O as well. After Accept disbanded Udo Dirkschneider went and formed his own band.

Heh, nice to see that I'm not the only one who likes about Accept. Yeah, Balls to the Walls is good album, though I like Predator more. Especially the title track Predator and track Primitive are very good ones.

Udo's vocals sounds like a mix between Rob Halford and Brian Johnson, without forcing himself to sound like it. It's awesome!
Try the song Mastercutor (titletrack) and Vendetta (same album).

EDIT: Sorry, Udo's own band, as Accept doesn't have such album

A lot of people call Tim Owens a Halford-clone/rip-off, right?
Listen to Flight of Icarus with Owens on vocal duties (you'll find it on youtube ). Even Halford would have a very hard time screaming like Owens does on the last scream in that song.
Besides, he has more than proved himself with The Glorious Burden and Framing Armageddon Pt.1

I bought Framing Armageddon. Now that I skip 9 songs out of the 19, I find it pretty good indeed.
I never doubted Owens vocals, that guy sure can sing, but I have never seen a guy so boring on stage. Even the fattier and slower Halford nowadays is more entertaining as a frontman than Owens.

Ayreon, 01011001... Go get, it's bloody awesome!

Oh, behave! Prog-metal? 223 riffs and beats in an 8 minute song. Female vocalists that all sound exactly the same. Hours of widdly, superfast guitar solos lacking any kind of emotion. Ridiculous generic fantasy or sci-fi concept that tries to be intellectual but only comes across as embarrassing. Classic moat-metal mixed with hippy-dippy psychedelia and poor attempts at folk music.Fiberfar wrote:Ayreon, 01011001... Go get, it's bloody awesome!
I listened to the album, and I got a headache after 15 minutes. If you want more of the same lame aural wank, featuring basically the same tired musicians, you should listen to Avantasia. It's even more pretentious, if that's possible. If you REALLY want to rot your brain with songs about magic swords and unicorns sung in preposterously bad English, you should check out Italian moat-metal superstars Rhapsody.

yeah Kings voice is "special". My favorite by them is the graveyard.Gilliatt wrote:I am a power metal fan as well, but I prefer power metal bands like Helloween, Gamma Ray and Edguy to those you mentioned. (I can't stand Sonata Artica's singer!)
I definitely agree with Painkiller and W.A.S.P.
Here are some of my suggestions:
Iron Maiden: Number of the Beast, Somewhere in Time, or Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Megadeth: Rust in Peace
Death: Symbolic (very heavy, but extremely good musicians)
King Diamond: Abigail, Them, or The Eye (Abigail is King Diamond's personnal favorite, Them is my favorite but the sound is not as good, and The Eye is more commercial than the two others. You have to love King's voice though, it is VERY special.)
Slayer: Seasons in the Abyss
Some personnal favorites, but not considered "classics" are Overkill's Horrorscope , Metal Church's Blessing in Disguise and The Human Factor, and Alice Cooper's Raise your Fist and Yell.
I also like Symphony X, a progressive metal band, their last album, The Odyssey, is their heavier.
As a power metal fan, do you know Iced Earth, Kamelot and Lost Horizon?
As for sayer I think their best albumn is South of Heaven. But my favorite song by them is Bloodline.
I'm here to deliver some bad luck.

Motörizer by Motörhead.
Nothing new in the ways of music, but still a good album.
