Small Zhycxss update...

Messed around some in the Illithid lair. Damn, those things are a pain! I sometimes get caught in the blast radius when an Ultharid Psionic Blasts my Skeleton Warriors... They ain't immune! Mind Flayers must be the most annoying creatures in this Plane! I resist the urge to rest more than once while I am here...

I am rewarded for my troubles! I am gifted with several mind control collars that never fail! Watch out world! Mind controlling clones coming through! Mwuhahahahaa! I plan to have my clones use these wonderful devices on every single challenging opponent I run into. :D Some Ultharids for starters...

I kill some giant brain in a jar. A mind is a terrible thing to waste they say, but I must say I feel pretty good about it. :D

I return to the Underdark and speak to Adalon. What a b1tch! Orders me about like I couldn't kick her butt or something. I try to steer conversation away from the inevitable errand I am about to receive, but to no avail...

I make a detour through Beholder City (I like Beholders). Fascinated, I watch them bouncing their rays on my Shield of Beholder Slaying and Cloak of Spell Damage Reflection. They switch to biting when they find out their rays are wasted on me. Damn, these things are smart! They somehow communicate with each other to gang up on me, and some of them sneak around the hallways to attack me from the rear. :D

Next on my tour of sight-seeing in the Underdark is a Kuo-Toa dungeon. I run into this Prince guy that just won't drop, no matter how much my Skellies hammer him (he can't hurt them either). If you can't beat them, make them join you! Simmy uses a mind control collar, and Mr Prince promptly runs off to clear almost the entire dungeon for me. :D He finally meets his end when a Beholder blasts him with a Death Ray.

Whilst scouting out some nice, evil looking temple, my Wizard Eye inadvertently triggers some sacrifice to Demogorgon. Demo-boy must do without blood this time; my Eye survives no problem. :D Some Demon Knights appear, half of which are quickly Dominated by Simmy's collars. :D Turns out to be a wise move when I notice that one of these guys can cast Imprisonment and Power Word Kill! I am pleased to lift a Girdle of Frost Giant Strength off his corpse.

I enter Ust Natha...

Man, this thread is dead! Am I scaring you off with my solo rants? :D

Here we go again...

Did some fighting in a pit and dueling in another pit. No sweat; these Drow are pushovers! They're pretty rude to me, too, which is odd considering I kick their but so easily... I get insulted and pushed around everywhere I go!

Mental note: kill all Drow! :D

Four Drow are OK (they're not on my list); Vicky (treats me with respect), Solaufein (not rude to me), Drizzt (decent) and a guy in the tavern called Nym Khalazza. He Actually answers questions! Tells me about Adalon, and now I can see why she was so un-cool towards me. I guess I'll help her...

I rescue some very aggravating lady called Phaere from a bunch of ever-annoying Mind Flayers. The things kill of my Projected Image and I am forced to actually cast spells of my own! Hey, that's not supposed to happen! Expecting gratitude from a Drow female is like waiting for rain in the Underdark.

All this random Dimension Dooring is really starting to wear on my nerves! I'm a good Mage; why can't I learn this spell!?

The trader here is a naive, trusting individual. I sell dozens of Drow armors and weapons to him, yet he never gets suspicious. "I, uh, won all that by dueling in the tavern... Yeah." :D

Some overgrown fish in a tank wants to blackmail me into killing some Drow... As if I wouldn't do so willingly! So, you're the Matron of this house? Here, have a control circlet. Off she runs to slaughter her relatives.

I run into those annyoing Giths again. One of them says: "I sense hostility.". No sh1t! Here, lemme show you what I mean... :D

After some bickering, Solaufein takes off and my regard for Phaere hits an all-time low.

Mental note: kill Phaere in some amusing way.

I break into some tower where a Lich called Deirex hangs out. Here, have a control circlet! He then blatantly teleports me away anyway! After I get back to him, he's very obedient and readily exposes himself to his Meteor Shower.

I use Deirex's wardstone to break into some Drow house (an opportunity too good to pass up). So, you're the Matron of this house? Here, have a control circlet! And your brother, and your sister. Now run off like good boy and girls and kill all the guards!

That naive trader still doesn't wonder what I do in my spare time when I empty my Bag of Holding once again...

Solaufein double-double-crosses Phaere (love it when they do that!), and Phaere and her Matron are shot down by some big Demon prince (magic resistance be damned). That chicken sh1t Demon refuses to stick around and fight me! Damn!

I run off and kill all Drow before finally leaving Ust Natha. Hah!

"A day of continued existence is your reward, lowly ma- Urghl..."

"Cast your eyes aside, lowl- ugnh!"

"Foolish male! You- Aaaargh!"

That's what happens when you piss me off...

Daylight! Finally! Wait, I'm not exactly thrilled... I liked the Underdark. Fun place; lotsa nasty creatures to kill and all that. Pretty nice scenery as well (say what you will about Drow; they have style). I might come back when I'm through with this Irenicus fella.

After being grilled on various subjects by some silly Elves, I run off to Cromwell to make some toys. The Hammer of Skull Bashing is mine! A spending spree at Ribald's nets Simmy two Time Stops and three Horrid Wiltings. I then run off to the Graveyard, armed with the Equalizer, some holy water and a thousand Stakes.

Zhycxss kicks more a$$es!

I run into a bunch of Vampires in the Slums that still seem to think I'm in Bodhi's employ. The Shadow Thieves were better informed... After securing some help from the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart (for fun; I really don't need it), I run over to the Graveyard to help them out of their dreams.

I meet Bodhi, she rants, I kill Vampires and enter their lair. They have refilled the chest with the Stakes! How thoughtful.

I meet up with Drizzt and Sir WhatsHisName, and it's a bad day to be a Vampire. Drizzt must be Negative Plane Protected somehow, since he takes blows without any apparent side effects.

I run into Bodhi. Simmy immediately runs around distributing Control Circlets, but that damn Bodhi turns out to be immune! Oh well, the old fashioned way it is... She falls quickly; how weak! I run off to Suldanesellar, hoping her brother puts up more resistance.

A sense of urgency surrounds the Elven city. I resolve to clear out the place in one go, without resting.

Those creatures Jonny summoned must cause grave injuries indeed! I use my Rod of Resurrection on a wounded Elf, but it doesn't help him any...

Ah, a Dragon! This will be fun. I try to see if Simmy can handle it all by himself, but being level 12 or so just doesn't cut it. I have to step in to deal the killing blow.

Into the Temple of Rillifane I go. I am tempted to quickly summon the Avatar to let him do all the fighting for me, but decide against it; more fun this way. Odd fella, that Avatar. Keeps interrupting me. Oh well, at least he's forthcoming with information (unlike some I've recently met).

A merchant shows up outside the temple! How convenient. Just what I needed to recharge my now half-empty Rod of Resurrection. I enter the palace in search of Jonny.

When I find him, he won't speak to me! Not even after I destroy most of his precious vermin and cut two thirds of his power flow. Ellisime, on the other hand, wastes a number of Project Images just to speak a few words to me! Such wonderful spells put to such mundane use; what a shame!

Jon is an idiot, just like her. He doesn't even seem to grasp the concept of cloning, even though he really puts some effort in killing me this time. He Mazes a bunch of my summons. Hmm... I'm all out of Spell Trap, and if he does that to me, it's bye-bye. He threateningly advances towards me, so I back off whilst performing some insulting gestures. It works! He gives chase. He must be trying to close the distance to Maze me, but I don't let him; he should have taken my Boots of Speed when he had the chance! I pelt him with Melf's Minute Meteors, but to no effect... until, suddenly, I hit him with Crom Faeyr from a distance! After some more chasing, Crom strikes again, this time critically (59 damage)! This immediately finishes him off. :D

I am drawn into Hell. Good! Finally a place where I can catch some rest without having to save the world and all that.

I run around speaking to various Fiends. One says I have no pride! Hah, just not in the way he thinks! Another one wishes to give me a cloak, but I tell him I already have a very nice one (with Mirrors!).

Then, something goes wrong... I am forced to go through some doors to save an innocent peasant. I shout: "No worries! We'll both come out of this unscathed!", and open the door to my left hand. The peasant suffers damage, so I immediately use the Rod of Resurrection on him (straight through all doors and walls!). I open another door, and he takes damage again; here goes the Rod. This works fine I think, but when I open the final door he gets blown to un-Resurrectable bits! Oops...

Bad judgment = Evil, it seems...

I meet up with Sarevok once again. I like to hack stuff, so... Turns out he can't hit me because of one of my Rewards. :D

Finally, Jonny shows up. He finally gets smart and brings in some help. I Mislead them all (he never casts True Sight!) and run off to some quiet corner. Various clones later (nothing ever lasted this long!), his precious Demons are all gone and we meet face to face. I am spelled up to the limit (portrait overflows with icons :D ) and take him down without suffering a single point of damage.

So, I finally get to say "I Saved Suldanesellar, And All I Got..." :D

I'm now soloing the much-lauded Stalker/Cleric (girl called Xixx, uses Shar-Teel soundset :D ). Completely different from Zhycxss, yet so alike (both Chaotic Good and like to bash stuff with flails).

Still only at the Stalker part, and it's not easy at all! I have to use Draw Upon Holy Might and backstabbing just to take on a bunch of Mephits!

Some Mephits in the Portal Room were kind enough to drop dead after shooting one missile at me... Is that supposed to happen when you kill their portals or something?

Wish I could help out... :( Don't you have a save game to go back to? What happens when you CLUA in a Scroll of Tenser's and use that? (just a stab in the dark, really...)

School has started and this thread keels over and kicks its legs into the air.

I must say the much lauded Stalker sucks pretty badly so far... The Berserker/Mage kicks such total a$$ in solo that I fear I might be spoiled...

I go around backstabbing everything in sight, but when I backstab a monster that has buddies, his buddies kick my a$$... I had to rest twice to get through the Troll Mound. As Berserker/Mage, I cleared that out in one go.

Am I doing something wrong?

Should I backstab less? If I shoot at a monster with buddies, I can draw it out and fight it on its own, but it somehow seems wrong to play a Stalker and not backstab.

Should I (*gasp*) buy potions or something? As Berserker/Mage I used maybe a single Oil of Speed and a dozen Potions of Extra Healing in the entire game, but now I have to swallow each and every potion I find if I don't want to rest after every two fights.

And what good are level 2 Ranger/Druid spells? Is there anything useful in there? I memorized Detect Traps, even though I know where most traps are... If it weren't for Armor of Faith, the occasional Call Lightning and the Stalker's Haste, all Ranger spells would suck...

America appreciates the sentiment, Dude. Times are rough but we’ll get through this (with a little help from our fellow nations :) ).

My God! You don't have ToB yet? J/K :) At least when you finally get ToB Dude you'll have plenty of people who can help you out if you get stuck.

Dude, no kidding!? And I thought I was the last of the Shadow Mages to get it. :p :D ;)

BTW, anybody care to give a quick run-down of how Stalker/Clerics need to be played in the earlier levels? I seem to suck at it... Either that, or Berserker/Mages are simply twice as powerful.

The backstabbing thing really annoys me. Every time I run into a group of 6 or so moderately strong opponents, I backstab one and the rest chews me up unless I prep really heavy...

well i really hope people can help my when i'm stuck.
because if i listen
to all your TOB stories i really should get help :D :D :D

btw XyX i played ranger/cleric, used them same tactic of dualling into cleric when u beated the circus and then went for the easy exp.
after that imidiatly went to Nalia's keep and
got my a nice flail :D .
after i finished the hold i was almost an active ranger went to windspear and after a fight with some vamps. i was fully operational ;) .
i had a nice flail and played with a +2 hammer wich necame (after windspear) a hammer of thunderbolts.
then it was easy.
nice tactics:
-Sanctuarie it was my most used spell;
a combo with sanctuarie and blade barrier was to much for all Flayers, werewolfs and (aspecially with turn undeath on :D ) for vamps.
- blade barriers is a great spells by itself it combo's great with:
- DUHM , Rightieus Magic (another great spell), and IRON SKIN (the best there is!!)

with them al together notthing can stop u and if it does....
there is notthing an Insect plague can handle :D

-Magic resistance is another great spell to cast on your enemy
instead of giving them bonusses it will reduce the MR to 10 or something great against dragons, liches and stuff because there is no save!

btw are u playing solo or not??

- hold person (for those big groups)
- raise death, u get 3 nice pets who can take much dammage.

don't bother backstabbing much it won't u much i guess, u can't backstab with a FoA :D

I just tried to start soloing a Wild MAge but gave up, I must have the wors tluck in the world today!!! I couldn't even get out of Irenicus' Dungeon. After blowing myself up about 13 times I said "screw it" and continued with my Fighter/Thief that I started to a sample of what a Multi-Class can do. I just want UAI so I can cast protection of magic from Simmy and get my rings :D

@ TheDude: Of course I'm soloing! :D I'm not going to play on Difficult or Insane (I want to stay true to AD&D rules) and this game is waaay too easy otherwise.

I use Gnasher for backstabbing. Backstabbing still seems overrated to me... Using ranged weapons, you can lure enemies out and butcher them in melee much easier.

I'm doing OK now that I have dualled to Cleric (at level 13), but playing without serious spell capabilities is not for me. I'll go through this way, mainly because I want to playtest all the Druid spells.

After this, I'll kick off the XP cap and solo a Fighter/Mage/Cleric.
