"Well met Nolan!" Connavar clasped Nolan's hand.

"The way out? Well, we do, but we are not leaving this place. We are going further in, we are on the hunt for the Ash Hand, and will not leave until this organisation fall. If you wish to leave, the exit is behind us, but a little further back. Are you well though? You do not seem to be that well, is there aught that we can do for you? I can give some healing if you need it."

Connavar looked carefully at the man. He detected no evil emanating from him, and he seemed trustworthy, though he did look to prefer the shadows.

"Would you care to join us maybe? You will be safer in a group, and we can do with as much help as possible. Afterall, you don't seem to like these guys..."

Matti grinned and smiled at the newcomer.

"My name is Matti Il Amin, servant of Lathander and one of his faithful, this is Saien McGerney, one of Fharlaghn's brotherhood, Tamerlan Khan here is a bard of some... repute," Matti grinned again.

"Bel here is an Elf with a grudge and the big man you just met is one of the stuffiest Paladins alive, but he is a good friend to me and a better ally than most would find. His name is Connavar Thyran, one of Torm's faithful."

The group smiled at Nolan and wondered on his reply.

Saien whirled his staff from a defensive position, shifting his stance and bringing the weapon erect against the back of his arm. Nolan introduced himself, and Saien carefully studied the new-met ally, trying to sense the warrior's motives towards the group. At least he appeared a warrior, heavily clad in studded-leather. Saien's leather was much lighter, allowing for a wider range of motion, but he suspected Nolan did just fine. Saien certainly never wanted to be on the receiving end of one of those blows he had just witnessed Nolan unleash. Somehow Saien trusted the man, which struck him as odd. Trust was not easy to come by with Saien.

"Save your spells Connavar," Saien replied. The group looked to him, a bit shocked, and he showed a coy grin. "You'll need them tonight. Nolan, I have bandages and polstices to dress the wound on your head, if you'll allow." Saien patted the pack on his back. "It is the least I could do to repay you for the aid given here tonight. But we don't have much time, however, as surprise is our main objective in tonight's battle. Join with us if you will, but we need to be leaving soon."

"I must apologise for my actions, recently events have been getting the better of me, I can see now that your an elf and because of that I will trust you, thats more than i can say for this lot here, beware the minute you betray me or them I will kill you regardless of whatever Conn says, he does not control me."

With that Bel held out his hand still slick with the blood of the assassin he had killed earlier. Nolan reached out and took it, shaking it briefly before withdrawing and shaking his hand to remove a little of the blood.

"I offer you my hand now, as an act of a friendship that could have been without certain complications. Just remember I could crush you like an egg! Our kinship will not be forgotten."

Matti shook his head and rolled his eyes, an incredulous smile crossing his face. "Bel, you're bound and determined to be a hermit, aren't you?"

The warrior of Lathander looked over the newcomer, still a bit suspicious but determined to be friendly, at least for now. The man was certainly no elf, though he did seem to dress in a slightly peculiar manner, as a foriegner, though certainly not like those from Soberdan. Perhaps Bel was right, in some respect, though. Maybe there was some elven influence there. A half-elf, maybe? Matti figured it probably wasn't polite to ask such things.

He glanced back at the corpses in the passageway and his eyes stopped on the one laying face down in the stormwater, the Hand he had pierced through the neck. Why the rush, the paladin wondered again. Every time he seemed to get himself into combat, he felt..., well, he wasn't quite sure. Or maybe he just didn't want to admit the truth. He seemed to like it. It was a sickening concept, and Matti was sure it was wrong for him to even think it. Yet, he couldn't deny the fact that his blood felt hot with excitement and he felt more alive when confronting danger. The fear and tension seemed to heighten the senses. He knew a paladin shouldn't think such thoughts, and he buried them back in his head. Deeply. Perhaps he would talk to one of the clerics when he had the chance. Or, perhaps such things were better left to himself.

Nolan smiled indulgently at Bel. What a character. "Thank you, friend, I shall try to stay in my shell."

"I'm pleased to meet you all, and thank you, Saien. Your help would be welcome -- I used the last of a particularly oderous pultice two days ago."

Nolan crouched for Saien to apply the soothing salve, then spoke to Connavar. "I am anxious to leave this place as I have obligations above ground. However, I am not anxious to travel these corridors alone. I would be glad for a chance to join with you, but I should know why you are here, first. What have these thieves done to warrant your assault?"

Saien worked quickly, sealing the poultice in place and concealing it under Nolan's hair. "Thank you, Saien," Nolan said and looked expectantly to Connovar.

Nolan's eyes opened wide, and his jaw went slack. The Ash Hand! Rumors and legends! Might as well say 'the Bogey Man.'

Nolan went to the nearest corpse and knelt down close, finding there the mark that he saught -- the sign of the Ash Hand.

"Had I not seen it for myself, I would have called you a liar, my freind," Nolan admitted. "No one I know has ever seen one outside of nightmares. Their name is used to frighten children in my land, but grown men think they are merely folklore."

Nolan looked at the group before him and guessed that Saien, Matti, and Tamerlane all knew something of the art of stealth, but Connavar and that Bel character would be as silent as an ox on gravel.

"I'll be glad to join you against this scum, Connavar," Nolan smiled, "but perhaps I should go ahead so that we have warning of an ambush before it's sprung. Which way?"

Saien finished wrapping Nolan's head, pleased to hear the warrior had no love for the Hand either. Placing his kit back in his pack, he answered Nolan's querry, "Truthfully, Nolan, we're not for sure. We've recently formed a loose alliance with another group here in Arberdan, and they've provided a distraction to get the Hand's attention. We're trying to find our way into their lair, but we're not for sure the exact route. I am glad you will be joining us, however. I've had experience with the Hand, and I don't plan on letting them terrorize Arberdan if I can help it."

"Enough of this banter, as i said earlier fires don't burn forever we need to get moving now"

Shouldering past his companions Bel made towards one of the tunnels, not even waiting for his companions.

"Wait Bel how do you know which passage to take and wait for us you fool you want to take them all on yourself" Connovar called bringing Bel up short.

"This passage smells different to the rest anyway I think there is an ash hand glyph on the wall down this passage, and at this moment in time I care not for my safety they cannot defeat me, in the future all their is for me is blood and death so I think that anything they choose to attack me with can go to hell."

With that Bel began walking once more down the passage.

'A bard of some repute!?!?'

Tamerlane was less then impressed with Matti's description of himself. But he would let it pass, so now he had met Nolan.

The man, slightly bandaged did not look like the best of characters. But then again, Tamerlane knew that it was a bit late to have the luxury of choosing his allies. If his companions could place their trust in Nolan then surely Tamerlane would be able to do the same.

However the circumstances of their meeting in the sewers, was a suprise to all and Tamerlane wondered how many more characters he would meet in this abyss of a place before the night wore off. The night...

He suddenly realised that they had spent too long a time in this one place.

It seems Bel had the same idea, as he pushed his way past the others calling for them to press on. Watching him being called back by Connavar brought a smile to the bards face. 'It seems the Paladin is having quite an effect on the elf.' Tamerlane thought.

However patience remained one of the bards constant foes. He hated waiting, what ever the situation. But here they were in this dark forgotten tunnel, waiting whilst the torches burned on...

"Bel! I said stop! Nolan has just come from that direction, maybe there is something up there that we don't know of..."

Connavar glanced at Noland and asked him a quick question.

"Will we find anything down the path you have just walked? Mayhaps there is another route..."

"Aye, there was a further tunnel, I attempted to find North and found you, perhaps the other way will result in your desired location."

Connavar nodded and simply moved his hand forward. The group walked quickly through the tunnels, Nolan had been down this passage and he knew of nothing to hinder the group.

They came to the bodies and the ladder that Nolan had climbed down and Connavar asked them to stop quickly.

He drew out his water flask and let some cool liquid sooth his throat.

"Let us organise ourselves. Go with the same order as before, but let Nolan go upfront with you Tamerlane, you are our eyes..."

They smiled and moved forward quickly, making good distance. The rest followed soon after...

Finally progress was being made. After sensing a bit impetuous earlier on. Tamerlane was happy to lead the pack and thankfully not on his own ths time.

He had no idea how skilled Nolan was in detection but could sense from his manner of confidence. That he may learn a thing or two from this strange person.

They increased the pace somewhat at Connavars insistance. The tunnels were beginning to appear longer then Tamerlane originally envisioned. As a result he became worried about how long the torches would hold out. He began to regret the amount of time wasted earlier but was grateful that progress was finally being made. And at a great pace too, he unnotched the short sword which he had carried until now. He was not used to the weight, and preferred his dagger should he need to use it.

Dropping his sword, he could now easily keep up with the pace of the others.

The group made their way cautiously down the passages the group not noticing any turnings in the passage continued on their one path. Then finally a door was in their path, Tamerlane called out "wait something is not right"
He looked around prised open a flagstone with his dagger carefully the mechanism was plane to see but too complicated for Bel to understand, Tamerlane fiddled with something inside the hole and something clicked, he replaced the flagstone.

"That was indeed a trap of devilish proportions it would have petrified anyone with the misfortune to go past this flagstone, it is now safe. This must be the entrance they would not waste such a trap guarding something insignificant." Tamerlane continued

"If this is it then we must prepare ourselves this is what i suggest we do......."

The time had come talking would have to wait the fire would be dying down soon they must act now there was no time for this! , Bel thought.

"There is no time for this now we must go now" he said and with that moved straight in towards the door kicked it open and walked in.

He heard someone mutter behind him "that damn fool is going to get us all killed"

----------------------------------------

The two thieves were standing on either side of the door, one suddenly spoke.

"Hell this is a crap job, all the others get to go out and do a bit of stealing and looting while that fires raging, while us two are stuck here guarding this damn door, 'Don't let anybody in or out' he says but to be honest with who'd want to come in here? It’s tantamount to suicide.

His companion was about to speak when suddenly the door slammed open and hit him in the face, and whatever he had been about to say was muffled as the sword went straight through his neck.

------------------------------------------------

The door flung open Bel, with a flourish, drew his blade and sliced at the neck of the first guard he happened upon as he stepped through the door, his sword disappearing back into the scabbard in one smooth motion, this elf’s skill with the long-sword was plain to see. He turned as a dagger rebounded off his chain-mail and simply elbowed the other guard in the face.

With the most present foe dealt with Bel began to run towards the far door, suddenly thieves began appearing at one of the other entrances, they stopped and looked at the elf standing in the middle of their base drew their weapons and charged in only then noticing the others behind him, but their numbers were being steadily bolstered as more thieves returned.

"I told you we waited too long, they are returning, did I not say it would be a butchers yard before the end of the night." and with that they were upon him.

A dagger went into Bel’s knee, form somewhere he didn’t know where and at that point he didn’t care, a red mist descended over the elf’s vision and as the others poured in through the door, the first thing they saw was Bel punching his fist through someone’s skull, and elbowing another in the face, swinging round he jumped on top of one thief and started to pound his head against the floor, again and again and again the thieves skull hit the floor, until it cracked open like a rotten melon spreading blood and brains all over the floor.

Bel looked up his eyes were blood shot a crazed look about them, and he was covered in blood it was dripping off his hands and his face and his chest. He looked towards another group of thieves, he met their eyes and all he could see was fear it smelt good.

-----------------------------------

The group of thieves looked at the elf that had just killed a man by pounding his brains on the floor they took one look at each other and began to edge backwards but the arrival of three or four more of their compatriots bolstered their resolve, and they stood resolute to face this obvious madman who had infiltrated their facility.

----------------------------------

He leapt upon them, and began to batter them around a kick splintered a shin bone punches crushed larynx’s and shattered rib cages, a spike went through one mans temple dropping him instantly, a knee into ones groin before a dagger kneecapped him, and finally a dagger into some ones gut before an uppercut with his gauntlet finished them off, numerous wounds caused by his gauntlet spilt blood all over. If Bel had before been said to have been covered in blood now he was soaked in it, it was in every pore in his body the sense was intoxicating to him, yet however it was not all theirs a wicked cut went straight down across his face barely missing an eye.

One of the thieves made a run for the nearest door Bel stood and ran after him catching him before he could open it he punched him in the stomach, and began beating the mans head against the wall, letting out bestial grunts and curses as he did so.

The rest of the room was now cleared of thieves Conn thought that wasn’t the entire guild returning only a small number to guard the gate once more their high command must have been suspicious.

He walked up to Bel and gently tapped him on the shoulder, he turned and the visage he presented was truly horrifying soaked form head to foot in blood too late Connovar saw the gauntlet heading towards his face it hit him squarely and he was knocked backwards tripping over a leg he crashed to the ground his head rebounding.

Matti looked at what had happened, and he realised that Bel had to cool off he’d just gone berserk, there was a bucket of water in the corner probably for the refreshment of the guards, Matti thought maybe it would wash a little of the blood off him too. He went forwards and picked it up and threw it over Bel, the effect it had on the big elf was surprising he crashed to his knees and began to whimper. The water had washed all of the blood of Bel’s body but it was plain the he was bleeding quite a lot in various places his arm was totally red again and so was his left leg. Matti had a closer look and realised it was because there was a dagger still there bending down he pulled it out, the elf stopped whimpering and just knelt there with his head in his hands.

Connavar's head rang with pain, his head had hit the hard floor and bounced off, leaving him on his back. It didn't slow him down though, he stood straight back up and was about to move after Bel when he stopped himself. Bel was on his knees with his head in his hands.

Connavar walked forward and kneeled down on his haunches, he put his hand on Bel's shoulder and said nothing to his friend, just letting him cry out his wounds and release some of the tension. He clapped him on the shoulder lightly and stood up walking towards his group who stood together, some watching Bel, others looking at the carnage of the battle.

"It was truly ferocious" began Nolan; "an absolute bloodbath. Do you know why he reacted like that? What would cause such a frenzy?"

"He lost his family to the Ash Hand, he was quite passionate about finding the perperatrators of the crime..."

A silent nod from Nolan hushed the conversation.

Connavar gripped the hilt of his sword, he washed the blood of the blade off on an enemies shirt and unstoppered his water bottle, taking a deep hit of the precious liquid. He gave the water to Saien to share around the group and returned to Bel.

Bel had stopped whimpering and merely shivered at the cold, he was drenched and shocked at himself, he had wounds both physical and mental.

"Come then my friend, let me have a look at that leg of yours, I'll clean it up a little..."

Connavar lifted the leg of Bel a little bit and noticed the dagger wound. He muttered words of power and his hands became encompassed in a pulsing blue light, he laid his hands down on the wound and felt the familar rush of power as his god's healing was given to someone else.

The skin mended slightly and all that was left was a pinkish scar, a reminder of the battle...

"Do you want to carry on now Bel? Do you want some water?"

"Argh what have i done. This is not me, this is not how its supposed to be, this was not me but its who i have become. That sort of beserk rage is not expected from my kin look what they have driven me too it is too much to bear too much." Bel began

Noticing Connavars question Bel stood up again, and looked down at his knee.

"Hey you fixed up my knee, thank you my friend, but at the moment i think i have had enough water for one day, thank you whoever did that." He looked around and saw Matti looking a bit sheepish. "Hmm why am I not surprised that it was you Matti. But times a wasting my friends and I think i can garuntee that after that little ruckus more will arrive we cannot fight the whole guild by ourselves, lets finish what we came here to do."

"If you are willing to move on my friend, let us do so. I have had enough of this hellhole forever. We will complete our business and move on quickly."

"Let me see your wounds, first," Saien replied. He barely kept the sickness out of his voice. Looking around the room....What had Bel done? Saien wished that deep swig from Connavar's canteen had washed away all the blood in the room as well. He had hoped it would be so, hoped it would be gone when he opened his eyes. But all the death was still there, and it was just as much Saien's fault. As Bel had charged blindly, Saien knew the raging elf would need any edge he could find, and the cleric had provided the edge, granting the warrior the strength of Fharlanghn.

"Let me see your jaw, Conn." Saien moved close to examine the oversized-crusader, who stood still, though Saien knew he was boiling with impatience. Connavar was definitely the type to shrug off pain, even whenever the cause of that pain needed attention. His jaw was bruising, and would definitely swell, but it was not broken. And it would have to wait for later. "Sorry about this," Saien said.

"Sorry about what?" The paladin said, looking at Saien as if searching down into the very fiber of his being.

"Well...let's just say Bel had a little more punch in that uppercut because of me, or Fharlanghn, whoever you'd choose to lay the blame on." Bel had a "little more punch" in all those uppercuts, using that hellish spiked gauntlet. That contraption must have been dreamed up by a blood-thirst fiend, as much pain as it caused. A look around the room caused another wince from Saien.

A dejected Bel muttered, "Thank you, Saien." The forlorn character stood with his back to the others, perhaps a bit troubled as well. Troubled by what had just transpired in this room. He turned to Saien, and mumbled thanks once more. The cut on his face seemed to have healed a bit as well, no doubt from the energy Connavar had channeled into the elf. It might not scar if healed soon enough, but it too would have to wait. There was more fighting ahead--hopefully not as bloody, but Saien would have been surprised--and the cleric knew he must conserve the spells Fharlanghn had granted him. Nodding to Bel, Saien replied, "Let's move."

aha were back mwhahahahahahahahaha

Bel turned to the group “If I remember correctly the way should be through that door over there, is that right?”

“Yes I believe it is, let’s go, but more cautiously this time.” Connavar replied.

The party made their way across to the doorway and gradually opened it, with a quick glance inside Saien made a quick evaluation of the dangers and relayed them to the rest to the group, “There are 4 guards in their nothing we can’t handle lets see if we can do this quietly, I’m amazed they haven’t heard the disturbance from in here before, but I see no obvious evidence of that.” Saien told them.

“Ok Bel I want you to take one out with you crossbow pistol, everyone else spread out and prepare to engage them, try and do it as quickly and as quietly as possible.” Connavar layed out to the others.

After nods of agreement, the group quickly spilled into the next room, pulling out his pistol Bel took aim in the dim light and shot catching a guard right in the eye, dropping him instantly. The others moved up to engage the rest, the work was short and the guards were dropping fairly fast to the stabs and cuts of the group, then from a nearby staircase a group of hands came into view on noticing the intruders they drew their weapons and charged in. The rest of the party were all heavily engaged but Bel as he had been holding back was not in their immediate line of sight, so as quiet as he could be he slipped round the side of the room, past the combatants, towards the door at the end of the room, opened it and rushed into the next room.

He took time to take stock of his situation, there appeared to be only the door he had come through as an exit from the room. It was populated by a tall thin man and a huge brutish half orc, who was wielding a double axe.

Drawing his sword and knife Bel rushed at the orc screaming “For Elthanor you shall die foul being”, the man muttered something and Bel was inexplicably slowed he saw the first head of the axe come round but he could not move his weapons fast enough to block the hit, it bit deep into his side, the pain flashed and the elf was forced to his knees, anticipating where the next blow would come Bel moved his knife as quickly as he could, but he was still not fast enough and could only turn the blow that had come whistling at his next, so the flat of the blade hit him in the side of the head rather than the blow decapitating him, before he slumped to the floor senseless Bel saw the man mutter a few more words with this done a blue image of the man slid over him and melded into his skin and after that Bel new nothing only darkness and voices.

The door opens and Connovar strides through taking stock of the situation he strides towards the orc as the most apparent threat.

Connavar saw the elf crash back on his head after a might blow and fall down, unconcious. He heaved the door open and saw a shrouded figure and a bullish Half-Orc roar in power.

"Hey ugly! You know how to use that thing, or do you stand there like a whore's wart?" Connavar shouted at the Half-Orc in attempt to draw him away from Bel. The orc roared in anger and belted out in very coarse common; "You think you funny humie? Me no like you. Me think you no like axe in head!"

The Half-Orce shouted again and run forward swinging his lethal axe in a lethal dance. Connavar jumped down from the small plinth of the door and walked forward. The Half-Orc rushed forward again but was met by Connavar. The Paladin put his right forward and dropped his shoulder, he span around planting his left foot and crashing his blade into the back of the Half-Orc. The blow had no real force, and the orc roared in anger. It was embarrased, and now it was angry. Connavar stepped back away from the Half-Orc and smiled lightly.

"I really thought you might have been better than that. Obviously not. Why not give up now and I might let you get away with a spanked bottom?" The Half-Orc said nothing this time but merely twisted his mouth into a perverse grin and showed broken and yellowed teeth.

His muscles suddenly bulged and he took off at a quick run. He roared again and leaped at Connavar catching him full in the chest. The wind rushed out of the warriors lungs and he went back with the force of the blow. His back crashed into a wooden board and it gave away and suddenly Connavar was falling,

He dropped his blade and grabbed the Half-Orc, grappling with him. With the Half-Orc firmly holding onto his weapon, Connavar held the advantage. He twisted round and turned his body so the Half-Orc was now falling first. Connavar butted the Half-Orc full in the face and was met with a loud, wet cracking noise. He had his nose broken and suddenly they met the earth, the Half-Orc being winded throughly...

In the main room the combat was still fierce, the companions were being pressed hard, but then Saigo's heightened senses picked up a crash and then shortly after a dull thud amidst the noise of combat. That mad elf must need some help I'd better get in their before something bad happens. Nolan thought.

His oppponent was good but not good enough a swift knee was all it took, the Hand doubled over only to be met by Nolans sword coming up, with his present opponent dealt with Saigo sprinted for the far door, and wrenched it open, a boarded over window had been smashed open and a tall thin man was standing over the prone body of Bel.

"Stand aside foul being you cannot have him." Nolan called.

The man turned stared in amazement, then quickly moved his hand in circles and chanting simultaeneously. Before Nolan could react the spell was released and the mages hands burned with fire, but then with reactions gifted only to his race, Nolan spun round and drove his blade at the midsection of the mage. With a look of satisfaction on his face he watched the mage stagger backwards and then amazingly charge forwards reaching out for Nolan with his hands, the mage gripped his arm and Nolan screamed in pane throwing the mage off he attack him again stricking many clean blows the mage staggered back each time, but returned with renewed vigour apparently unharmed. Saigo couldn't understand it, the mage grabbed him again his hands closing on the elfs right hand burning it Nolan screamed again at the pain and dropped his weapon from nerveless fingers.

The blackness surrounded him, it encompassed him, and the voices called to him, speaking of failure. He had FAILED, all of those he held dear were dead and he could not avenge them, he was apthetic he was a fool to even try to avenge them, he couldn't hope to succeed the odds were a million to one. The blackness seemed to consume him, then Bel thought for heroes million in one chances occur nine times in ten, with a smile he tore at the demons surrounding him, a scream pierced the darkness.

------------------------------------------------------------

Bel opened his eye's grogilly what in the name of the nine hells was going on here, he saw an elf grapling with a man, a man with burning hands, this was not natural, he recalled something else a blue figure, then it all came crashing back to him, the thieves, the sewers and a that bloody half orc, he looked around and didn't see it anywhere, then he saw the elf hit the mage time and time again, the mage staggered back, but appeared unharmed, what sorcery was this the elf thought then the blue figure again dawned on him it was an enchantment of protection.

The elf thought for a split second then made a decision, he could not allow the other elf to die he must use the last of his gifts, with great reverence he drew a greatly embellished bolt from a pocket on his breeches, he cradled it as his last tie to his home, with a great reverence he loaded it into his pistol and pointed it waveringly at the mage.

The mage had grabbed hold of Nolan again and another scream issued the blade dropped form the elfs hand, Bel shouted out "You killed Elthanor you fool, you will pay right now!" He fired.

--------------------------------------------------

Nolan heard a shout and saw Bel slumped against the wall with his crossbow pistol up and fired, the mage staggered back blood, spiurting form the wound just above his kneecap the mage collapsed unable to stand, Nolan having no blade with which to kill the mage merely kicked him in the head, knocking him senseless, picked up his sword, and looked towards Bel. The elf was again not moving his hand had dropped to his side and his breathing appeared shallow, Nolan thought I cannot help you now the others need me more than you. and with that thought ran out through the door.

--------------------------------------------------

The bolt had hit the mage and dispelled his protections and for that the elf was glad , the wound in his side throbbed again and the darkness and voices came upon him once more.
