Lost Souls
You're aware that Void isn't actually a hackashin...right?
Lost Souls: A bereft lover. A masterless familiar. Friends gone their separate ways. Time marches on, and destiny heralds the meeting of comrades old and new. Can they find what they're seeking? Or will the search bring them only more pain?
Did you think a "hackashin" was a new species of hakeashar or something?
A dog or a cat? But that's so...unimaginative. Besides, it would have been somewhat challenging to portray a household pet outwitting and humiliating you. But a mysterious shadow-like being with strange powers and a nasty attitude...no problem.
@all: It's regrettable, but I need some time to get my act back together in school, as I'm rapidly falling behind and I have 2 exams and a major paper due in the next seven days...none of which I'm prepared for. I doubt I'll be able to post before next Friday, and I apologize. Be assured that I haven't lost interest in the story, and I'm fully prepared to continue as soon as I get things under control again.
Sorry guys. I hope my excuses aren't sounding too lame by now...

I think it's becoming clear my half of the story is somewhat more dark, or is becoming that way, then the rest. I hope I'm not offending anyone who reads this particular post, considering the nature of what I am implying is going to happen, and I can understand if someone wishes me to retract it.
Truth be told, I feel that at times, people forget about the darkness that can take place in Fantasy, and this is one such event. The way my particular ideas are flowing, until my half hooks up with the rest of you guys, chances are, the darkness will be a trend in my part of the story.
Again, if anyone is offended, I will edit as needed.

I suppose it's alright as long as it doesn't get graphic. Just remember Roleplaying in Athkatla. That's what we want to avoid. I shudder even recalling that mess... But I'm all for darkness in fantasy, as long as it has its place in the story being told, and isn't just thrown in for its own sake.

It seems that way, at the moment. It's just, my choosen characters need to traverse much ground in order to meet up with you guys, so I'm trying to do with as much story around as possible. don't worry, I should be able to finish off my seperate part soon enough.Originally posted by Rob-hin
@Aegis
I can't help but feeling that you are writing your own story, seperate of the rest of us.
@all it seems that the story has kind of stagnated and i apologize that i haven't posted in a bit. I'm not sure when i'm going to be able too, because I have three crazy exams this week.
On another note, i've been reading athkathla 2 lately and its a great story. I wish I was involved with it now

Lost Souls - The Search for Magus
Athkatla 2 was definatly a good group (Wish Rail was still around ), but I don't see why we can't make this one as good, or better then Athkatla 2. We got a talented group, and a good lead man.
Also, once my side conjoins with you guys, I tend to be a bit of a driving force... Much to Magus' chargrin
With that said, Magus and I have collaborated, and we have a loose idea on what will be happening on my end to join up with you guys.

@Aegis: I don't think he meant to compare the two stories against each other. I think he wishes he could have gotten involved in these stories earlier. But maybe I'm just putting words in his mouth.
@ScardyBob: If you're worried about Lost Souls stagnating...check the dates of the posts in Athkatla II as you read. You'll notice that Athkatla II had many long "breaks" in the action, yet we managed to keep it going to the very end. Such breaks are normal in any story. The true test of a story's mettle is if and how, as the writers, we manage to resume the pace after such breaks.
@all: I've been browsing over Athkatla II a little lately, and something caught my eye roleplaying-wise that sets it apart from Lost Souls so far. In Athkatla II, we were much more willing to go out on a limb and play other people's characters when it suited us, which is something that hasn't occurred so much in Lost Souls. Who knows--maybe it's for the better, there's certainly less confusion that way--but on the other hand, if you have an idea, you shouldn't hesitate to bring it forth. So far in this story, most of the "situations" between the characters have been imposed by me. Not to sound like I'm bragging, but that basically makes me the driving creative force behind the story (excepting Aegis, who's in his own little self-contained world ). What I think made Athkatla II successful was everyone's combined creativity, and for one, I'd like to see more of that in Lost Souls. Just because I'm the DM doesn't mean I'm the only one who should be doling out the surprises. Try me once in a while. Make me squirm in exasperation as I'm forced to deal with something I wasn't expecting.
Of course, with Aegis joining up soon, I'll probably be eating my words in no time.
Random aside: It might seem that I ignore ScardyBob sometimes...but actually I talk to him almost every day. If I don't respond to something he says, it's probably because we've already discussed it. I only mention it because I don't want to seem like I'm snubbing anyone.

I don't mind other people "playing" my Xandax, as long as they keep him true to his nature, (Confident, stoic, rational, considered and similar) and as long as nobody messes (to much) with his "heritage". (And leave my sword Ferox alone )
Also I try to play Xandax as an experienced and skilled warrior, but not somebody "superhuman" or "epic", so don't expect him to jump around and kill everything in his path nomatter the odds.
I really liked the bar-fight sequence from Athkatla II, where I felt "I" could show skills, but still not somebody that just took down his opponents, and could show weakness also. (One of his close encounters with death )
So if somebody needs to advance a part where I'm in the vicinity - feel free to control him a bit (I'll let you know if I disagree )
All that being said - I don't myself feel the urge or confidence to take over others characters. That is likely because I differ in (roleplaying) style or something, but I will rarely control others. But - feel free to use mine

@Aegis Sorry, I didn't mean to compare the two stories, I just wish I had gotten involved earlier. I'm pretty happy how this story has gone so far and I think its only going to get better
@Magus Ya I saw the gaps in Athkathla 2 but I'm just so excited about this story that its hard not to check it 10 times a day. Kind of like reading a good novel you cant put down

Well, I apologize for making it sound as though you were comparing it. But, what I said still stands. The beauty of it still being early in.Originally posted by ScardyBob

As I recall, Athkatla 2 took us the better part of a year to get through, I believe. Long story, but great fun in the process.
Also, I have the same excitement as you Bob. It is like a good book, and the fact we have some talented people writing with us only reinforces that notion. Wait until things get into full swing. I've been known to really throw Magus' plans for a loop, and things get interesting
Damn... Sounds like I'm tooting my own horn a bit. Heh. Sorry, don't mean to. I just like messing with Magus.
Also, on a side note, as it happened once before. I do happen to use other peoples characters in my posts at times. While I try to avoid doing anything drastic, and I try to keep the character's best interest's at heart, please tell me how much, if any, creative license I may have with your characters, as I don't want to inadvertantly anger someone, or mess someone's plans up.
Well, as you all now know, I have at least reached an area of some proximity to the rest of you. Although, my habit of lack of fore sight has put into one of those spots where I'll have to think of something in how Virrilis and company escape. I hate what I did to Rail for the past two posts, but I couldn't think of a way to incorporate him properly into the story, so I took thecheese way out, and knocked him out.
Also, I know I didn't write in an account of how they went from the Calim****e desert to the Anauroch so swiftly, so think of it as merely a plot device. I figured they weren't really conscious, and Virrilis is the focus of my part right now, and if he didn't see it, a lot of it wasn't necessary. I'll probably fill it in at some point. Maybe Rail was awake for it, and when they can talk to him. We'll find out.
Also, I'll probably be focusing a little more on the self development of the characters. I know both Virrilis and Sethin are fleshed out, or at least I think I've written them that way, but I hope to work on Ferchen a bit. I don't feel right still using Rail as much as I am, and wish the owner would please come back, but, so far, he has not responded to my hails, so to speak, so I shall try to do him justice. Maybe once we all hook up, Magus will give me a hand with Rail.
Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying my half, as I would hate to delay my entry with a boring story, in which later proves to be pointless, so, here's hoping. I look forward to connecting with the rest of you people, and I'm sure some good interaction will occue between Xandax, Sethin and Virrilis

I was going to PM this, but it seems your PM box is full, Aegis. Oh well, I guess it wouldn't do any harm to post it here.
Where is this camp in relation to Pedsgin? If you have a map, tell me where you are. If not, look back at my second post in the story thread where I laid out the lay of the land. Depending on where you are, I might just be able to lend a helping hand.
@all: I'll try to get a post up tomorrow or Saturday.

I finally got some time to post. A week of three exams is definately not a happy one. I'll do my best to keep up with story now that I have a little free time again. I also finished reading Athkatla 2. It was definately an exciting read and I think I have a decent idea of your characters' background, personalities, etc. I'm going to start trying to play your characters a little my post, if you guys dont mind.
@Magus Since I don't have any idea what you have in store with the lich i'll let you decide how my reckless charge turns out Though I'd think that a man with several defensive enchanments, wielding a magical club, and commanding a small army of the undead would be somewhat formidable

Well, sort've I suppose... I mean, when you compare to some of the crazy junk some of the more extablished characters have done, your attack seems almost sane!Originally posted by ScardyBob
