OK, here are two controversial votes:
4. Michael Jackson (there's no doubt that he's successful, we're just not sure if he fits the second criteria).
3. Martin Luther King Jr. (I consider him very successful, just not financially like everyone else on the list).

As for the black people top ten, I'm surprised noone mentioned Mandela. Two others I could think of were George Weah and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (first female president in Africa). Oh and Condi and Powell.
