Hey there Dude. I’m just spiffy. Image At the moment my current obsession is with my webcomic, Dungeon Crawl Inc., a satirical poke at the Baldur’s Gate/Icewind Dale games and RPGs in general. Image I haven't seen much of Nael or Edwin though. Image As for the 100 pages... Well, we're almost there. It'll be a great finish to the Shadow Mages legacy (since we're the spammiest topic still in the BG2 forum). Image

Tell me one thing...why why WHY would thieves want to join mages?!? Thieves are by far the most powerful class (in my opinion) so they dont need any help beating anyone...so help me out here peepz!
My mind is like concrete; mixed up and permanentally set

ah look someone wants to hear our story

wel it all happend almost 2 years ago.
back then guilds where populair there were guilds for everything.
almost every class had his own guild, myself i started The Shadow Guild a place where thieves come together and talked aout tactics and advantures :D .
Edwin my, good, long time no seen, friend started his own guild The Council of Mages where mages come togheter and talked about tactics and stuff.
and there where tons of others (just typ guild in the search option and u will see :D )
then came the guild wars, and the shadow guild and the council were the only 2 guilds left in battle, we couldn't find upot wich one was the strongest (remember ToB wasn't yet around so no Use All Items!! :D )
Then we the ultimate cliche if u can't beat them join them!!
so Edwin and I founded the Shadow Mages and we where the biggest baddest and greatest spammest guild of all time!!

so thats our story and i u want askquestions about Thiefs or Magesbecause we do know alot of tactics or nice tricks.
it 's not all spam u know... :p

Whatever. :D Just remember what's been said before:

1) No Guild wars allowed, and there never were any, here. Buck's never permitted 'em in all the time this board's around, and this thread (or any others) will be shut down faster than a preacher at a casino if it's tried.

2) No one has a private line on strategies regarding any class, spell, item or event in BG2. It's much easier and quicker to get questions answered directly by starting new threads in this forum rather than putting them all in one thread.

3) Only BG2-related Spam and fun is allowed in this thread. You wanna spam otherwise, go to the SYM (Speak Your Mind) forum.

4) Buck owns this board. His rules, we all play by 'em. ;)

Oooh! Hey fabster, you've done it! You've put the Shadow Mages onto their 100th page! Woohoo! All those years of assassin tactics, spell discussion, and of course, spam have finally culminated! Let us mount the thread on a wall and dance the night away!

LOL! That's not a guild war: that's a popgun war. :D Before I came here, I posted frequently at a board that had genuine guild wars: huge flames, members talking trash at one another and email bombing, tons of complaints to the site owner, etc. He finally shut his entire board down in disgust because he didn't want to face telling 'em to stop, and has never reopened it.

The other guild threads here died off because no one cared. People simply realized it was easier to get good game advice from directly hitting up everybody in the forum, rather than approaching a subset in a single thread. And many of those people that wanted to hang around and simply shoot BG2-related breeze wandered over here, because it was still around. There are barbs, sorcs, clerics, and even unaffiliated pagans just posting in this thread. ;)

Lucky especially for my stomach, and the contents thereof. :p

On an unrelated note, I've been unable to think of another computer game that has engendered so much continuing interest for what appears (at least, on the surface) to be a fairly broad community. I mean, there are still people out there who swear by Ultima IV, and I've actually seen websites by strange, subterranean types who insist Bard's Tale II had more features than any subsequent CRPG. But the mods and the questions keep coming on BG2. I just wish there was somebody expert and interested enough to juggle the contents and create a new BG2 out of the mix, even if they used all the old materials.

It's impressive how long the BG games have retained their appeal. I'd love to see a remake of the entire series (BG1, TotSC, BG2, and ToB) combined into one game with 3rd edition rules. Maybe some fan with too much time on his hands will doctor one up in a few years. :) It's great that fans have taken it upon themselves to keep the series going (by making mods, new NPCs, etc.).

Diablo 2 has it's die hards (due to free B-Net) but they don't really compare to the BG fans.

Diablo is a clickfest, an action game that's easy to play and get a buzz from. There's so much more depth to BG2--for better, or worse, depending upon your perspective--that I think a lot of people have "bought into" the product. I admit to being surprised that Bioware or Interplay (whomever holds the rights) didn't simply sell future iterations of the title to a qualified third party, along with a degree of consultation help and physical properties (like the Infinity Engine).

But game producers are a weird lot. The Dynamix folks laid off their entire RPG staff after Betrayal at Krondor was released, and before it could become a certifiable hit. Origin Systems took a perfectly solid and strong RPG engine and formula and traded it for a spastic action title in the same genre that was a popular and critical flop. Who can say why BG2 was allowed to lapse? Bioware clearly had a motive for going the Star Wars route with LucasArts, but there was no reason to leave the properties to grow mold, IMO.
