is it allowed to make an hole in the barrel? is so

ten they could just "see" who where right, or stick an object down inside the barrel, and compare on the outside how much wine there is inside?

That's not it. No taking anything form the barrel (or adding).
Riddles!

And another more interesting one:

There is a barrel with no lid and some wine in it. "This barrel of wine is more than half full," said Curly. "No it's not," says Mo. "It's less than half full."

Without any measuring implements and without removing any wine from the barrel, how can they easily determine who is correct?
Since there's no lid on the barrel, just look in the barrel and see how much is in it :p

Go ahead, tell me that's too simple :D
Muahahahahaha, got it, I think :D . The answer is 8 - 49:7=7 and from those 7 she makes number 8. :D :D :D :D
(was thinking about it all day  )
Correct! :)

Yes BS, you're right.

That is too simple.

And no it's not the right answer

About halfway there though. :D

Presuming they know the capacity of the barrel:

If they were to fill it up, knowing how much they put into the barrel, they could calculate the existing amount

That or they drink it between them and the last one asleep wins? :D

Nice answer but wrong.

Come on think simpler. Remember: nothing added or taken away.

You sound like a Warburtons bread advert! :p

Working on it.

Ok, how about they draw a line where the existing level is then put a lid on the barrel and turn it upside down? :D

Nope. Keep going.

Are they both measuring from the same end of the barrel? If not they could both be correct if each were prepared to stand on their head and see the other's point of view. Then they could share the booty to celebrate their team work!

:D

Think simpler. Do something to the barrel without taking or adding.

Don't want to sound like a bread ad. again. :p

ROFL! I thought I was simple!

:D

Is this a mathematical quiz? If we cannot take away or add, can we multiply or divide? Can we pour the contents of the barrel into two other containers?

If the wine has to stay within the same barrel, I am assuming it is loose and not in measured bottles within the barrel?

The absence of a lid is bugging me, since I am thinking it is relevant *shrugs*

My first guess to drill a hole at halfway point was proven wrong.

LOL! What keeps occurring to me is the true brandy measure in a true brandy glass trick, but this doesn't apply here :D

Tip the barrel, if the wine while touching the highest part of the barrel, shows the bottom it means the barrel is filled in less than half...My math techer loves this riddle
Tip the barrel, if the wine while touching the highest part of the barrel, shows the bottom it means the barrel is fulled in less than half...My math techer loves this riddle
So it is along the lines of the true brandy measure in a true brandy glass then? :D

Are you allowed to mark the barrel at halfway point then float the barrel in water to see if the water level reaches the halfway mark on the barrel?

I'm glad someone got it; I knew it involved tipping the barrel, but I didn't remember exactly how to tell if it was more than half full or less than half full. That and I've only just now read the riddle... can't do much very quickly on 56k.

Nar's right, I think. I'll have to check the exact answer though. If I remember the riddle number... :p .

I was thinking I was going to have to reveal the answer too :( .

Riddle six-sixtyfive:

What is put on a table, cut, but never eaten?

Shouldn't be too hard. :o
