I woke up this morning sing this song again. And remembered the last verse.

"If green is all there is to be,
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why...wonder,
I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful,
And I think is what I want to be."

Good morning!

"Oh Lydia, say Lydia, that encyclopedia,
Oh Lydia the Queen of them all..!
She once swept an admiral right off his feet--
The ships on her hips made his heart skip a beat;
And now, the old boy's in command of the fleet
Cause he went and married Lydia!
I say Lydia, the Queen of Tattoos! Hooray!" -from Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby's "Lydia the Tattoo'd Lady" (just about the only good thing in the Marx Brothers' Day at the Circus)

"He was playing his life. The whole of his life was gliding on the strings-his lost hopes, his charred past, his extinguished future. He played as he would never play again.

I shall never forget Juliek. How could I forget that concert, given to an audience of dying nd dead men! To this day, whenever I hear Beethoven played my eyes close and out of the dark rises the sad, pale face of my Polish friend, as he said farewell on this violin to an audience of dying men." -Night, Elie Wiesel

This is probably the most moving narrative int this book, IMO. My eyes were misty after reading this passage. This is the only book that makes me truly sad.

Oh, if we're going Latin today, here's Martial:

Munera qui tibi dat locupleti, Gaure, senique, si sapis et sentis, hoc tibi ait "Morere."

Gaurus, you rich old fool, anyone who sends you a present--can't you see?--is telling you, "Please, die."

@Nael, if promiscuity is the theme du jour, let's not forget John Barrymore, who once remarked, "So many women and so little time."

@fable - Your knowledge is amazing. About the quote 'musicians all they talk about is money and jobs' was echoed by a collegue of mine and I have quoted it ever since - 'All we ever talk about is music and money let's talk about something else, I know babies!' - Declan McAlister, Austria 1990 - Curdis

That one about lies, damn lies, and statistics is from Sam Clemens (Mark Twain). Disraeli never would have been caught dead using a "damn" in public. ;) But it *is* a good quote. :)
