No don't blame Greg, I figured it out because I'm an 1/8 scottish and I have never felt the inclination to ever wear a kilt. Figure that even if you multiply my kilt-urges by 8 you still won't find anyone wearing them everyday...

That is an interesting approach.

Things always look more "true" when you put numbers in, don't you find?

Meh, I suppose. I only find them useful when managing money, fanatsy sports teams or when trying to be glib however.

:laugh: Yeah, I don't like the sciences very much. I think it was an 8th anyways... Well all I know is that my mom's side of the family is very heavily Irish/Scottish with a bit of English I suppose and my dad's is Saxon:a mixture of German and English but less heavily. I could go ask them if you really want...

Hmm, I'm watching this special about a lady who killed her 15 day-old baby. She doesn't remember what happened, but was able to lead cops to a lake where they found the kid's body. Says she doesn't remember leading them there now, or anything. It's proposed she had post-partum depression or something of the sort. You're smarter than I, have you heard of sucha thing at all?

I am not smarter than you. But I do have one experience which might be relevant. A friend of mine had a baby and not long afterwards she and her husband and another friend came to stay over with me, and they brought the baby. In the course of the evening I began to realise things were very strange indeed. I spent most of the night trying to understand what was going on (I am a bit slow on the uptake sometimes, but the other two were saying nothing so I have some excuse). Without going in to how it all went, what eventually emerged was that she believed aliens were feeding the child and she didn't have to. At about 5 am she left with the baby. She sneaked out and took their car. I didn't drive at the time so we had to get another friend who did and go and find her. Then we had to get psychiatric help ( a difficult thing to do as it turned out). She must have read the Midwich Cuckoos because she insisted my other friend (and all her female acquaintance except me) were pregnant.

She was compulsorily detained for a time and the doctors said it was "post puerparal (sp) psychosis" With treatment she made a full and quick recovery but she does not remember much at all about that period.

I have no doubt the baby would have died without intervention, so I think the woman you describe may well be honest.

But of course I have no way of knowing if her situation is similar in any way

Holy ****. That's horrible, thank God you were there.

As for this lady, apparently the father came home one night and his kid was missing and his wife had no idea where he was. They called the cops, the woman was acting kinda weird. The cops kept asking her where the baby was because they figured she knew more than she was letting on, and eventually got her to lead them to a lake 30 minutes away where they found the chilld weighted down with some rocks in a canal. Dead. She told a bunch of conflicting stories about her leaving the baby in the sink where she was giving it a bath, went to answer the phone and came back to find it blue in the face and not breathing. The first story she told was proven to be partially false, but the possibility of an accident remained. Anyways, she has no recollection of the incident to this day just some vague memories about talking to cops. She's in prison on second degree murder charges for the next 50 years. She doesn't knopw why she did. Doesn't even remember doing it and nobody knows why she would.
Leading up to that day, however, apparently she had been acting very anxious about the baby's health (paranoid even) and had begun pulling out her body hairs (including some in rather painful places). She couldn't sleep and was depressed. That's what lead to the psychosis idea, but she wasn't examined for it at the time of her arrest so they couldn't use it in the trial. Very sad stuff.

It is very sad and I am amazed she was not at least examined for the condition my friend had. The doctors told us at the time that it is rare, but not vanishingly rare ( I can't remember now what the incidence is).
