Hey, compared to my real life, that dream was like an E-ticket ride :D

Well, if you want to get out of the tunnels, maybe we can work something out; DD is stunned somewhere in the vicinity...

Der-D: Read back just a little here in this Community thread, about 20 posts, maybe. We are considering taking a short break from "Book 5" for a while so that we can write an alternate-reality "Book 6" thread where we all have different characters. Something a little more light-hearted so we can breath some fresh air and sit in a hot tub for a while before coming back to the Abomination story. :) What do you think?

@Scayde: Your cat looks much like out cat, Thor! :D

That sounds like fun. Can I still be evil? :D

Like I said, DD is kind of in limbo right now. Maybe we could use her situation to segue into the new thread?...

I'm going to post something in the story. (I'm feeling way too creative this evening.) It's oging to be an attempt at segueing (sp???) into the new thread. Please, if anyone objects, let me know and I'll edit or delete. Or if you get back right away I won't do it at all :)

Carnival

Image

Late last night my partner and I returned to Vancouver after spending nearly a week romping through the snow of Quebec City where we celebrated Carnival... For those of you in the US, this celebration is similar in its nature to Mardi Gras... It was a very special week... and I wanted to share... because in a very real way many of you truly are a community to me..

Our rather spontaneous decision to fly madly across the country for just a few days arose during Christmas.... Perhaps part of our lunacy stemmed from a desire to experience some real winter weather... It perpetually rains on the West Coast in winter.. but I have not always lived here and snow has long held a special symbolism to me. A tale my mother once told me suggests I owe my existence to a snowy Christmas Eve... our son was born on the only snowy day of 1995... and when I think of Christmas my thoughts will invariably drift to cabins nestled within pines all blanketed by a thick covering of snow.....

So last Thursday morning we boarded an Air Canada jet to the sub zero climate of Quebec City. I knew all augured well when the plane's chief flight attendant jovially announced that any passenger caught smoking would be escorted overboard minus baggage, refund and cell phone. :D Upon landing he happily reported that the plane contained the same number of passengers as it had on take off, along with the warning that standing up prior to the aircraft actually stopping could result in the said individual arriving at the airport ahead of the plane :D

Well onward to the festivities... The day after arrival we quickly discovered that the frequent imbibing of Caribou was quite critical to surviving the frosty -15* C temperatures. Caribou is a Quebec concoction consisting of equal parts Port and Whiskey, and it is served hot. Needless to say... too many and you would feel like a caribou the following day. The Caribou also manifests itself in the form of a doleful trumpet-like horn suspended from the belts of many revellers...and they alternate between large swigs of the beverage and efforts to persuade sound from the horns. The resulting reverberations bear an astonishing ressemblance to the sounds emitted by lovelorn bull moose in urgent need of...um.... release.. :D Curiously, it were mostly just the male festival goers who felt the need to exert themselves in this manner :p

Evenings during Carnival are generally spent outside as well, and of course, it is even colder during when the sun drops. Numerous happy hours were spent stamping feet to traditional fiddle music while periodically retreating to the warmth of metal barrel fire places.. and naturally.. a few swigs of caribou... :D

Rafting madly down the hills of the Plains of Abraham.... or just walking through Canada's oldest city (400 years old) were wonderful ways in which to spend the day.... as well as frequent visits to the city's many excellent restaurants... *eek* I can't recall the last time I ate as much... !

It was in fact over dinner...following a ride in a horsedrawn carriage (caleche) through the old part of town that my partner and I exchanged rings... We have been together for nearly fifteen years... but the time felt right to do something so very symbolic.... The road leading us to this point has been a bumpy one and the last year in particular has been one of remarkable transformation.... Some of you here have been a very vital part of this moment... With you I have shared the gifts of laughter, love, camerarderie, friendship and... healing.... There are not really the words to articulate how much this has meant to me.... I can only say thank you...je suis bouleversee par tous qui a passe.....

Later on I may post up a few photos :) If I can figure out the technology....
