Ah, but Gwally has never met a Paladin/Monk before. All he sees is some upstart (albeit enthusiastic) kid who runs around swearing fealty in the first five minutes of meeting someone, slipping off to other countries at the drop of a hat, completing vision quests at the drop of another hat, gaining new and unheard of powers right and left, and calling upon the gods to heal someone with a cold when there are four other healers in shouting distance as well as a whole team of elvan clerics who would be happy to help. (Okay, that was a bit of an exaggeration, but I forgot to mention that Nippy has a penchant for teleporting in and declaring that the worst monster ever must be defeated, but he has no real plan to speak of - what balls!) Gwally started off being suspicious of Nippy (after all, Nippy was originally found enthralled to Waverly in the shadow dimension), and Nippy's brashness rubs Gwally the wrong way. I view Gwally as being grounded in the tangible like a bear in the forest, while Nippy flits around like a hummingbird messing with intangibles. Like fire and water those two are; or maybe more like earth and wind. Its not that Gwally doesn’t like Nippy, he just prefers a more cautious approach to life and views Nippy with a bit of trepidation. (Of course it may just be that Gwally gets a little defensive with ‘interlopers’ into ‘his’ Dark Flames - but that may be a different problem!) just kidding you Besides there wasn't much room left after Gwally got in In terms of Gwally's character development, he started out as a servant, a willing slave of the Dark Flames. He feels very protective of them; a feeling that is at odds with his knowledge that they can very well take care of themselves. He never wants to do anything that diminishes them in any way, but will continue to watch (or massage) their backs to the best of his ability. He has routinely taken on the more distasteful duties (cleaning the keep, seeing Anomen home, etc.). He feels as though he is something of a servant to them still, though he also feels as though he is something of a patriarch to the Dark Flames. There's the conundrum for him: he is the patriarch of a matrifocal clan. He is aware of the irony, and thinks that a greater balance can be maintained through that paradox.Originally posted by Vivien:
