It’s nice that they’re going in new directions rather than rehashing TNG’s era (which Voyager took the shine off IMHO ). I especially liked some of the continuity features, i.e. The Enterprise’s registration is NX rather than NCC signifying that’s it’s a prototype vessel, yellow is the color for command and red is for engineering like in the original series (next generation and subsequent spin-offs reversed them), and Zephram Cochran's cameo. And I almost didn’t recognize Vaughn Armstrong in role of the Admiral. He’s played dozens of different roles in Trek but this is the first time I’ve actually seen him play a human. All this aside there were a few slip-ups, as one of the Vulcans refers to Klingon Warbirds. Anyone who knows about Trek ships will tell you that Warbirds are a distinctly Romulan ship and Bird of Preys are Klingon. I suppose it’s possible that they were originally reversed since in the Original Series the term Bird of Prey was used for a Romulan vessel (oh, speaking of Romulans, who else here thinks the Temporal Bad Guytm is really a Romulan?

I've got high hopes for Enterprise after seeing this first episode. Between it and Andromeda I should meet my quota of Sci-Fi for the season.</STRONG>
I agree. A good start to a good series. One of the characters even has my surname! I liked the Captain's quarters - looked like Pike's quarters in a way. Loved the fact that Cochrane didn't split his infinitive (to go boldly)!! :D The communications officer was a nice touch of the original series. Lots of good touches. Nasty weather, polarizing the hull plating, communication problems,...

No, I don't think the temporal guy is Romulan, but I wonder about some of the 'Vulcan' ambassadors...

I just finished watching the series premiere. Much better than I thought it would be. I love the first officer's accent. The comm officer and science officers are awesome.

I'm 99% sure that he's Romulan, and it isn't because of the centuries old 'rivalry' between the Romulans and Klingons. Just look at him closely. He is, of course, not wearing the usual Romulan uniform; but I'm positive he is Romulan. Ambassador Saval(sp?) looked Romulan. *nods* Definitely looked Romulan.

The ones they stole would obviously have been an upgraded version of the original BoPs. I do not remember what they called the Klingon ships in the original though. I do find it funny, though, that two species that hate each other so much have such similarities in their military. *snickers*</STRONG>
During the Original Series the Klingons and the Romulans allied and the Romulans used Klingons ships (D7 class or the K’Tinga upgrade). An early draft for Star Trek 3 has Christopher Lloyd’s Klingon character stealing a Romulan Bird of Prey for his quest to thwart Kirk. Subsequent drafts dropped the Romulan connection but the ship somehow stayed a Bird of Prey. The term has been used for Klingon ships ever since (B'rel and K'vort classes)

Let me guess... your surname is Phlox! (the Enterprise's alien Doctor :D )

I'm just wondering who the poor crewman is that gets to clean up after the Captain's dog. :p

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I could see some Romulan features, however blurred.

That wasn't a D7 class they used in Star Trek 3, was it? IIRC, the D7's were more angular and didn't have the wings that raise to level for cruise mode and lower to an angle for flight mode. Wasn't the Klingon ship in ST3 the same as the Klingon ship that the Durass sisters had in Generations? I have a model of it that I built sitting on a shelf, but I don't remember what it is called. IIRC, the D7s were grey, while this other I'm speaking of is green.

Yes, my surname is Phlox. How did you know? I also like a little Phlox on my bagel in the mornings.

They don't have to clean up after the Captain's dog. They feed it food that is high in trace metals, then they polarize the deck plating and the doo-doo levitates into a disposal chute like a puck on an air hockey board! :D

Okay, back on topic with this thread, would you guys believe my name is really Gwalchmai? No? Okay, how about Dave? Or…
Phlox. James Phlox. Agent Double-Oh-Eight!
Maybe Fred? That's what I tell my daughter...
Okay, okay. Really, now, its Bob.

BTW, I have it on good authority that Georgi's real name is Nigel. :D

Whatever you say, Mr. Phlox. ;) Agent 69 says you still owe her 500 denari and a night for that last physical you "passed." :p

They might just use the transporter to beam the dog doo off the ship. Fast and simple :) (though I wouldn't want to run into it at warp speed  ).

The Bird of Prey is the green one seen here. Both the B’Rel and K’Vort class Bird of Preys look identical, except that the K’Vorts are slightly larger and are modern upgraded versions used for actual combat (whilst the older B’Rel are primarily scouts).

The D7s were used in the Original series and looked like this:
Image

The K’Tinga class is just an upgrade of the D7 (just like the Enterprise of the Original Series movies compared to the one of the show). The K'Tinga looks like this:

Image

Though all these ships are still in service (except for the D7) the modern mainstay of the Klingon Empire is the Vor'cha class battle cruiser:
Image

P.S. The Negh'var class prototype is the flagship of the Empire and much larger than any other Klingon vessels (no pic though :( ) All ships are to scale.

(If for some reason these images don't come through go here to see them)
