You see: the subject led already to several posts of spam. And I was talking about the type of tingles you feel when someone in a movie you're watching gets kicked in the nadgers.

All this talk about Castraati got me thinking about something:

How did people in the 17th century castrate people?
They did not have the technology we use today, so did they do it the hard way (A knife), or the easy way (A hammer)? Or maybe they even used another metod?

Ravager would not answer it, so I'm asking you perverts :D ;)

*grumbles* Nobody appreciates what I do for them

The "operation" involved drugging the boy with opium, immersing him in a warm bath until he became (hopefully) insensible; then the ducts leading to the testes were severed and that was it ... if he recovered, and many did not; no aseptic procedures in those days. This information is included in Charles D'Ancillon's "Traite des Eunuques", aka "Eunuchism Displayed" (1707) and is a contemporary account of the castration of boys.

No the TTD (Teddies for Tooth Decay) had enough supporters in both the House and the Senate to block the bill that would have made it a law to give every citizen a memo yearly tha toutlines protection programs that include tooth condoms for when you sleep with your tedies, as well as a mouth gaurd for all other occasions.
It is an interesting fact to note that, during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, only approximately 1% of castrated or partially castrated boys developed into successful singers.
I know, not so interesting. :p

@Phreddie, and in the UK? :D

This reminds me of a joke:
A farmer is asked how he makes a bull into an oxen by a cityslicker. Answers the farmer: "I take two bricks and smack them together"
Cityslicker: "But doesn't that hurt?"
Farmer: "Only if you get a finger between the bricks".

Freedom leads to Lust.
Lust is the key to Jealousy.
Jealousy breeds Ignorance.
Through Ignorance an American is born.
