In my life so far i have learnt at various times :

Italian
Norwiegien
French
German
Latin
Chinese
And Japanese

At the moment i'm learning German, Latin , Chinese and Just started Japanese

From all of those i think German is easiest because they have a series of set rules and each word is pronouced as it is spelt.
Latin is second easiest but we don't speak that...
Chinese is hard because of all the characters but thank god for Pinyin and it is also very tonal even for than swedish or norweigen.
And so far Japanese looks like being like a ****** of a language  :D
I'm walking backwards for christmas over the Irish sea
I've tried walking sideways or the front but people just say it's a publicity stunt
I'm walkin....arggggg
(Ahem) The singer Count Jim Fayes
was unexepectedly shot.

I speak a little Cantonese but I mainly speak another dialect of Chinese at home. Cantonese and Mandarin are not similar in pronounciation of a word. Also I think you use your tongue more with Mandarin. They are almost similar in grammar. Hope that answers your question.

Thank you, josh :) Is Cantonese and Mandarine considered different languages or different dialects? I've heard there are very many different Chinese dialects - but also that there are different languages.

To my knowledge, they are just different dialects and Chinese has only one writing system so if you can pronounce a word in Cantonese, you can do the same in Mandarin. I'm not too sure about the languages though. What I've learnt is what my parents have taught me. I'm more fluent in English than Chinese and I can't write or read it.

What do you mean, the grammar is like scratching your nose? Are you saying it's easy? If so, what in the grammar makes it easy, if you don't mind me asking? :)

Wow, I might be one of the only people here who learned chinese as a first language. English is actually my i think 5th language. To answer some questions, in ym opinion Cantonese is vastly different then mandarin. To the untrained ear it sounds te same, but to one such as I mandarin is a lot, lets say "harder" than cantonese. Cantonese is a much softer less excited lang, while mandarin is more excited and generally faster. Myself I also speak Cho-jo which is my family dialec and personally easier than either mandarin and cantonese. Vietimese is even worse than mandarin though, it also being my 4th lang. So many accents and hitting of the tounge makes this language seem like its jus all accents with some letters in there. English I think I've mastered pretty well for a 5th language. I mean I scored higher on the verbal SATs then my american friends who learned English first.

IMHO spanish is hard cuz i can never do the doube rr rolling sound.
It's pretty easy, I mean just go kill a dragon, get laid.

"I never thought it would end like this,
just because I got no ****,
I'll shave my legs and wear a bra,
I'll even cut my p**** off for you."

Now that's a love poem if I ever heard one.

Heehee, I accidentally learned how to roll my r's. I have this tendancy to play around with my voice and accents, resulting in some strange voices and impersonations. One day, I was mimicking the sound of the phone ringing; and I've been able to roll my r's ever since. :D
