Why don't you just build your own computer. The parts are soooooooooo cheap right now. I think it's the lowest it can possibly go. Jump on the wagon before you miss out.
I don't like to buy these big brand name computer because the companies put a lot of crap in your computer when you buy it. For example, they put a lot of their own utilities and software that you don't need. It would be just better if you can install a bare OS and get software from other people.
I agree. All that is left of my original purchase from a dealer is the casing, one small hard drive and the cables. Everything else I have upgraded myself, or had a local company do...so much cheaper :)

Athlon Thunderbird 1 GIG
New motherboard
224MB RAM
20 GIG HD
32MB Graphics
16MB sound
56K modem
52X CDROM

Practically a new PC all for £600 ish. Parts are so much cheaper now though...

I think a GIG processor is more than enough (for now ;) ) I chose Athlon over Pentium as they are reknowned for being more stable. This is usually because suppliers are generally in the habit of clocking Pentiums, whereas Athlons already run at their optimum capability. :)

I agree. When I bought my new system, I was told that having a CDROM was a waste. DVD's are the way to go these days.

Heh. My first computer was an Apple II. No hard drive (what were those?), and we had expanded the Ram to 128K so I could play Castle Wolfenstein on it!

Yeah, exactly ----->me in 1984:

"What's a hard drive? Just let me switch these huge floppies in and out of my one disc drive every 5 minutes."

I remember when I got a second(!) drive it was like the ultimate in luxury - I only had to switch discs every 10 minutes - and some people I knew had a cassette drive!

Oh, man! Tape drives! I never trusted those things. Remember the first modems (I saw them at school) - you actually had to put the phone receiver into the cradle! :D

At least none of us here now had to do the punchcards!

You've come a long way, baby!

I wonder how Weasel decided to do...

Err, the fact he's missing is, because he tries to build his own computer...?

@Weasel Why don't you build your own computer? Its a lot cheaper and you could call it the....Weaselnator. ;)

Check out tccomputers.com they are very reliable if you are looking to buy parts.
