@All: So I've finally managed to reinstall Windows 98 (after borrowing a atartup disk from my neighbour) and did it do any good?!?
No...so I deleted all the .vxd files and most of the other files from "c:\windows\system"....I reinstalled Windows 98 yet again and to my overwhelming joy my dvd-drive and cd-drive now reads data-cd's...

Only problem now is that I can't seem to change the "screen setting" above 16 colours and 640x480...(well well...I guess you can't ask for everything to work)...
First thing tomorrow I'll copy every single file I want to keep to a couple of blank cd's and then I'm thinking of formating my harddrive...is there anything special I should have in mind or think about so I won't screw things up even worse?!?
Thanx all of you for your help...

I may not sound so very thankful...but I really am...

Have a nice christmas holiday everyone...

Hugs & Kisses...
@Mr Sleep: That's exactly what I tried to do...but I still couldn't boot from my CD...
After several failed attempts at creating a "startup disk" I went over to my neighbours house and borrowed one. That didn't work either...seems there's some kind of glitch with my diskette drive...have to press the diskette firmly downwards to make the drive read it properly...
Well anyway...everything seems to be alright now...except the "16 colours....and 640x480"...which can't be changed in the "settings" and I've tried reinstalling the drivers....well tomorrow I say no more troubles in any way...because then I'm going to format my hardrive and reinstall every little driver, programme, file...and so on...

Thanks for your help in anyway...
