There is a dirty, short term solution, disable Java and Java Script (Tools/Options/Content in Firefox) before loading GB, just remember to re-enable when you leave. Not an ideal solution, and may not be viable for moderators, some functions are disabled doing this, but it does get past the advertisement problem and allow you to use the forum.

Thanks for the info, I've notified UGO. Hopefully both of these ad issues will be addressed today.

I realize that this topic has been dead for sone time, but a recent advertisement, "Summer Arcade", has been making it unable for me to click links, even if I close it. This makes navigation as well as posting difficult and the only solution I've found so far, without disabling scripts, is to reload (not refresh) the page again.

Thanks for the note, I've contacted UGO about it.

Rather than start a new thread on the topic, I figured I'd ressurect this one
Is anyone else getting a persistent Marvel comic popup?
I've been experiencing this one for the last week or so, even though I have a popup blocker, and quite often it will repeatedly spring up if I'm trying to post or check the forums I mod..
I understand that we need ads... but if there's any choice in the selection we get.. this one is a touch invasive..

So far, I haven't encountered that Marvel Comics popup. And I'm using an ad-blocker too.

GB is heavy on the ad spam and these are the worst. I wouldn't call it a pop up. Anytime your mouse goes close to the top banner ad, the ad expands. Not just the marvel comics one but there have been a few that use this format.
Drives me nuts but the guy's trying to make a buck so what are you going to do? Not much but let him (and try to keep my mouse away from that top ad)

I've seen the annoying Marvel Popup Ad on the BBC news website... the damn thing expands when the page refreshes and shifts everything downscreen. So far not encountered it here... though I do get a lot of Belgian dating website adverts and find a Russian Bride....
Seems in the Belgian region they like playing to the stereotype that gamers are nerdy lonelyhearts. But at least that seems to be about as offensive as they get so far.

yes, I ever experience it, but not with GB since I'm new in it. but, my best guess it's because of adware.

I have some problems with the Fiesta Trailer add.
Its a youtube video:
YouTube - Fiesta Trailer
It automatically starts downloading and playing from the add window on this site, and its really annoying because of the loud music, so I have to right click the add every time to say "stop download".
One of the places it seems to spawn is on the Gamebanshee Home site, on the lower right side just under the "Latest Forum Activity".

Could you send me a screenshot of this advertisement, Foss? UGO doesn't seem to be familiar with it and they're concerned that it's malware-related or something. I haven't seen it myself, so I can't say one way or another.
Thanks!

Maybe I am a bit of an old fashioned prude, but does Gamebanshee want to be associated with the Mobile Spy app, that advertises itself as put anyone's ph number in and start tracking them? Of coarse the model used for the ad is some playboy bunny wannabe as well. Seems kinda trashy to me, I go that mild only if it does not work, if it does, then it is potentially criminal.
I only mention this Buck, because I have seen in the past how you have limited questionable ads.

Thanks Buck. I have sent the screenshot file to your gamebanshee email.

Every single page I load, I'm getting an extremely large and annoying Cineplex ad for some garbage called "UltraAVX", whatever the hell that means. It renders over the site so it's impossible to read or interact with any content until it's popped up, which takes several seconds. I want to support GameBanshee by allowing ads through my ad blocker, but when they make the site difficult to even read, that's a bit trying on my patience.
If it's any consolation to Cineplex, they are now on my list of companies to never do business with. Brand recognition usually isn't a good thing when the people who recognise your brand want to burn it alive.

The only ads that I see that cover the page is the few-second add for the new XBOX 360, and that's only every now and then. I don't seem to be getting any of these ads others have problems with.

Getting an add for a russian dating site now. Dream-marriage something something.
