My username is my AOL screen name. I try keep an absolute minimum number of different logon IDs so I don't get too confused.
How I got my AOL SN is a bit of a story, too, since a buddy of mine set it up for me. There are five of us who use one AOL account with different SNs to save us all some dough. I missed the setup meeting and was told that my SN was HiLordDave (that was back when AOL SNs were limited to 10 characters; it was also a more friendly SN in the sort of "Hi, Lord Dave" kind of way, instead of the world domination that is implied by being the High Lord Dave). When AOL went to the 16 character SNs, I expanded it out to HighLordDave.
So my friends came up with the SN. It's not a drug reference; I promise (that's usually the first thing people ask). When we get together to do something (especially travel), I'm usually the one in charge, partly because I'm the most organised, partly because I'm the most devious, and partly because people tend to do what I ask/tell them to. When we get together for a PnP RPG (AD&D, but also Rifts, Heroes Unlimited, and PFRPG; we call ourselves "The Death Wish Players"), I'm also usually the GM. Because of that, my friends also think that I have a God-complex, but I consider it simply to be an abundance of self-esteem.
On a side note: the AOL password my friends set me up with was "slaver" (don't try to use it; I got a trojan horse virus a couple of years ago and changed all of my passwords) because I was the first PC to sell another PC into RPG slavery. Someone's little brother and his friend whined and bugged us to let them play, so we warned them that we were hardcore in our hazing of the new people (especially little brothers). They still wanted to try out some munchkin characters they had rolled up so we let them in to the party. I got tired of the kid's incessant arrogance, so the first chance I got, I gave the pair away as a gift to a Lord I needed information and services from. It was pretty funny. They never came back (at least while I was playing in the party).

LMAO!
I am so happy you didn't use the first name in full...</STRONG>
But it's a very special worm, although only 1mm long and having 959 somatic cells!
The poor C Elegans has done great service for mankind - it was the first multicellular creature to have its whole genome mapped, and studies of this little worm has resulted in a vast body of knowledge about how genes work.
Here's a link to the most important creature in genetic research

The name "Elegans" comes from the supposedly elegans sinus shaped movements. I guess you have to be a biologist to appreciate the aesthetic value of this fully

Maharlika means "noble" or "of noble birth" in Filipino. Probably akin to the Hindu Brahman. Name I used when I played a paladin in BG2.
The fellow who chopped off Magellan's head, Lapu-lapu, was a maharlika.

Well, I've said this before as well
I usually pick names from mythology, either Celtic or Greek.
Vivien (Nivian on EQ) for the lady of the lake. I also played a druid named Brigit (Goddess of the hunt), which was fun

My nick name is derived from the language of my ancient ancestor, the Atlanteans. As you know, Atlantis was a great nation of scolars, scientists, and other good-looking people. My name roughly means "Venerable Yet Viral Warrior with Really Good Hair". Yes, yes. I know. I couldn't have chosen a better name.
The fair ladies of the Dark Flames have given me the nick-nickname of "Gwally". It’s a term I have grown attached to, connoting a certain fondness.
Enema... er, I mean Eminem
, has often tried to refer to me as "Guacamole" - one of my favorite foods (though I should point out that guacamole is an enigmatic food full of contradictions and mysteries. For example, who ever came up with the idea for this dish whose two main ingredients (tomatoes and avocados) ripen in opposite seasons?)

Its actually nice to have old topics resurrected since some people who may have wanted to post in previous incarnations are put off by the fact that the thread is some 8 pages long...
I've had this nick for ages. It comes from when i was very young and into Tolkien. I'd give all my RPG character's elvish names, but this was from a time when i didn't know the difference between Sindarin and Quenya.
"Duramath" is a shoddy conglomeration of them both. "Dur" means "dark", "Amath" means "Fate". Its normally accompanied by the surname "Quarangren". "Quar" means fist, "angren" means "iron". So there you go. Cheesy, but, hey, I was very young and i thought it sounded cool.
I've used "Duramath Quarangren" many times over the years. On various occasion he's been a god of death and fate, a alien fighter, and a human warrior. The most recent incarnation was a fighter/mage/thief who was aware that he was a figment of my imagination. Now, that was a fun character to play. In more airy terms, its a name I give a character when the character is...well...me.

Presumably because it is used as an abbreviation of Dorothy
My nick is, ummm, my name. Unless you listen to Gwally, who says my real name is Nigel. At least, I think it was Nigel...

Yes, and Nigel, contrary to what "Georgi" might say, is really a 300-lbs man who sits on the sofa in his underwear watching football and cricket on the telly. he sweats alot, too.

der Moench (I think everybody knows this by now) is German for "the monk." I chose it because - I'm a monk!
Sorta.
Peace.

FAS is also the name of a well known verbal fluency test, often used both in research and clinicial assessment of people with brain injury or neurological or psychiatric disorder

Indeed. Thats pretty much my definition of a monk, in fact. Do you know of any other significant traits they have?

I have a couple of reasons for choosing this nick.
1.)Sailor Saturn is my favorite Sailor Senshi.
2.)My name is Hotaru. Sailor Saturn's name is Hotaru.
