A swashbuckler is better than a fighter/thief for your purposes as you have way too many tanks as is, and being multiclassed will make you gain points slower.

Inqusitor
Ranger / Cleric (DC lv 7?)
Kensai / Mage (DC lv 9 or 13)
Swashbuckler
Archer (elf)
Sorcerer

Now they became well balanced. I got 4 fighter classes with all different weapons, a Sorcerer for magic power and an archer for killing. Tomorrow at this time I will have already created my new party for the "tacitcs" BG2+ToB run. This is the last chance for any more suggestions. I'am still not shure on what level I will DC the characters and I'am not shure weather I better get a Fighter/Thief Halfling instead of the Swash, hmmmm....

Where did the Blade go??

With that group makeup, I would probably take a Blade over a Kensai/Mage any day. Then again, I don't really create entire parties, I just experiment with each class in Single Player mode.

What Berethor says does have some merit. A Blade in a party such as this has a few advantages over the Kensai/Mage:

1. Can cast AND fight for the ENTIRE game.
2. Can tank without heavy armor.
3. Gets spells earlier than the Kensai/Mage
4. Can achieve a higher AC than the Kensai/Mage. (The dual class can't use Spirit Armor!)
5. Can achieve greater physical resistance than the Kensai/Mage. (45% maximum, depending on item choice).
6. Spells' level increases faster, which means more damage, better effects and longer duration.
7. Later on, the Blade can use ANY ITEM.
8. Can perform multiple roles, such as the talker/salesman, tank, front line fighter, archer, mage and supporter. This makes the Blade adaptable to ANY situation and ANY party.

Sounds good. The Blade seems to be more powerfull, allthough he wont be able to cast spells of level 7 or higher. If i chose this blade, instead of the kensai/thief, I have the problem that I dont know how to play him? What items and proficiencies should I use? What spells shall I cast on the first line? I would need some bard tactics maybe...

Actually decided to take a Fighter/Thief halfork multiclassed kensai for the swash. How do you think about it?

At the very start, I wouldn't give him any armor, just use spells like Spirit Armor. For weapons, give him something fast, like the Kundane and Belm.

When you're tanking, use defensive spin, when attacking, use offensive spin.

Just play him the way you need to for that situation, as a self buffer, a party supporter, a damage dealer, whatever you need.

If you *really* need to cast spells higher than level seven, just use scrolls. You should be swimming in gold anyway, not that it matters since the blade can rob shop owners blind.

You cannot use a kit when you multiclass. Also, I still stand by the swashbuckler as his skills would develop faster than that of a fighter/thief.

Ok, thats true, but is this the only benefit i get when chosing a swash instead of a F/T multiclassed? The swash will gain levels faster and will get a nice armor and damage output bonus. The F/T instead of this will gain slow levels, but will still have enough for the basic thief skills like unlock or find trap, later pick pocket and hide in shadow so that he will be a backstabbing freak. He will be less a tank but a tacitcal backstabber that has tank qualities. Are Swash and F/T equivalent in melee skills btw?
