Go into your Diablo II/Saves directory, and copy all the files in there onto floppy disks or other removable media! Easy :)

Been there. Tried floppy & disc. No show
on characters. If I create a character
with the same name it says its a dupe
but no access. Is windows 98 to xp
a possible cause?

No. Thats the exact exchange we made (meaning my brother and I), and everything went perfectly, and the characters are accessable on both the Win 98 and XP computers in the exact same form.

You absolutely sure you copied everything? Because Kameleon's advice is sound.

You could use something like jamella's character editor and create a carbon copy of your old char... the way kam mentioned should work though.... be sure to create a save directory adn put it in there....

A DII forum, finally :D I have been playing D2 for about 2.5 years, off and on, both on Battlenet, single player and multiplayer with my hubby. Currently I play very little, and when I play I play with the account I got from Kam :D I still have a lvl 85-ish tri-elemental sorc and a lvl 80-ish berserk barb somewhere...

Personally, I think most people you meet on Battlenet are nice and friendly and want to play the game just like yourself. However, like Tyb I have found I'm not too fond of the online community around D2, so I have never participated in the forums, trading items and all that.

You'll have to give me an update on how they're doing at some point...I can barely remember the characters' equipment now  ;)

Since when do whe have a Diablo II forum here?
Damn, I used to be good in that game (I was the proud owner of a Grandfather (best sword in the game and the rare-est item).
Found it myself, just like alot of other good items (complete sets)
I played that game for hours, but when I got bored of it (after months of online gaming), I gave my items to a friend who just started playing.

Re character transfer

Ive had the problem of the characters being transferred not showing up in the load char screen, it's to do with the version, if you transfer diablo 2 LOD v1.9 chars into a copy of Diablo 2 LOD 1.7, the chars wont show up.

Easy to fix, just download the latest patch (1.9d i think)

Guess i should put in my $0.02C :D  ... got a amazon to lvl 97 before i took a break and snapped all my D2 Cd's due to WinME absolutely hating the game and crashing every 2 or 3 hours, went to EQ for a while and going back to Bnet as it's free and i'm broke. Started the amazon before the expansion came out so she was quite a messily developed character. Quite a broken game as it is right now but hopefully the next patch will fix that  :)
