hence it is an RPG
Oh I had no idea. My level 25 Shaman and I thank you for pointing that out, obviously we were clueless. What HAVE we been playing? Here, I'll send you my account privately so someone who appreciates a true RPG can play. I only work here.

I said all that and all you heard were those 5 words.

I think I would be Tauren, mainly because my sign is Taurus. And I dig the description, they are supposed to beings that are at one with the forces of nature. As for class, I think I would be a hunter or a shaman.

But if the subscription fee is too high, I won't be playing anything at all.

Well just because thats a warcraft game and it's the only one, other then WoW, that has the tauren in it. I was just wondering if you liked them from that game, but guess not. :o

Right. I have been playing with the thought of doing a MMORPG, partly because there are no good 'normal' RPG's to play at the moment, and partly because I would like to experience what it is like to play with lots of other 'real' players. Game AI is usually easy to beat once you know the trick, I hope playing against natural intelligence will prove a bigger challenge. I was planning to join Star Wars Galaxies but the somewhat negative reviews put me off. So now I am waiting for WOW, and I must say I do like the idea of playing a creature that I can identify with. I like the description of the Tauren race, I get the impression they were somewhat modeled after the native North-Americans. With roleplaying, it is a good thing if you can choose a race you can identify with. I is about time that bull creatures take their place among accepted fantasy beings like elves, orcs and dwarves.

I am starting to wonder about female taurens. Are they also called Tauren? Or maybe "Cowen"? And will they have udders? For that matter, will female dwarves have beards?

The females are called Tauren as well. They don't have udders, but do have breasts. Tauren basically have the build of orcs and are bipedal, but they have bovine features including hooves, horns, and tails. One of my characters in the beta is a Tauren Druid and I'm enjoying the playstyle of the Druid and the Tauren starting location very much. I just got to level ten and bought the "bear form" ability. It's kind of funny, because you keep your cow ears and horns when you turn into a bear.

From what I've heard there'll probably more Night Elves than Humans (but NE and Hu will be the two most popular races).
I'm going to play dwarves and trolls ;)

I don't know Numinor, I think Humans will probably still be the most popular. They seem to be by far during the beta test. When I was a NE a few times, I had hardly any competition but go to Stormwind and you'll see what I mean.

I'd guess that Humans, then perhaps Orcs/Trolls, then Undead/NE/Dwarf, then Tauren/Gnome. Just my guess.

I don't think you can compare beta and the "real-game"..
I found this poll in which NightElves are the most popular race (21.29%) before Humans (21.00 %), so more than 2/5 of all characters would either be NE or Hu... I hope it doesn't get that bad (since the poll was when the gnomes and trolls were just revelaed, while NE/Hu were known from the beginning)

That's an interesting poll and I might be off in my guess, but because the beta is supposed to be randomly drawn to a degree, I'd guess humans will still be most played mainly because of what I've seen but to a large degree, when push comes to shove and you have the game in front of you, I'd think that people would usually go with what they are familiar with when presented with something new... at least at first. Time will tell.

Well.... I first voted for NE cause they have such cool shine eyes... but the more I think about it I'll probably end up being a gnome or dwarf..... I've always had a strong connection with the short dude inside of me :)

Yeah I know there will be mostly nightelf and humans I found that poll a while ago too, but the poll above is just gamebanshee member statistics. I also am going to play one of each race. Since currently the max number of characters they will let you make is 8. Blizzard says they may change this, but I still made one of each. Some for their own unique reasons. Some for serious role-playing, but all for fun.

1st Orc - Rogue
2nd Troll - Warrior
3rd Gnome - Warlock
4th Undead - Priest
5th Dwarf - Paladin
6th Tauren - Shaman
7th Human - Mage
8th Nightelf - Druid

After I found the poll I put them in the order I'm going to create and play them, by how many votes they got on that poll. 1st being rarest and 8th being most common. Luckily of all of them an Orc Rogue is the only one I'd ever of wanted and he's super rare. So i'm glad of that a little. ;) Sorry Hunter...

The latest in WoW screenshots of how the game will be. http://blizzard.com/misc/e3/2004/wow/screenshots.shtml The game looks great and I believe I even see a nose ring on one of the human girls in the first pic. And before Applebrown accuses me of being more concerned with the graphics opposed to the actual game play again, I only bring this up because if the developers put this much work into their graphics, they must put an huge amount of time into how the game is played, meaning the game will be great. Really, I could play it if it was all 8-bit, because I often enjoy 8-bit games too and have some on my computer.

Sadly, this is not always true. A pessimistic soul might even venture that the opposite is true: the more time/money is spend on visual design, the less can be spend on gameplay. Or the whole thing might be such a big production that it is going to be one of those bloodless products for the masses. Take the 'big' hollywood movies for example. Huge amounts of money are spend on visual effects, but the bad plot and dialogs spoil the entire thing in such a way that the expensive effects make the product extra pitiful.

Come to think of it, the same might hold true for books and records. I sometimes think if the cover is beautiful, the contents are likely to be crap.

Of course I know this is not always true. In lots of games the graphics actually make it harder to play, but I'm talking about a game developed by Blizzard. They tie up all the loose ends on their games, they even made it so the AI on WoW knows when your trying to take advantage of the wild creeps and monsters. There is definately a story, perhaps you should read on it.

Dwarf for me because they are naturally good fighters and Im a fighting man. None of that throwing spells around plus most of the items that can be picked up boost a fighter by a lot. Also because they have extra hitpoints and strength.

I pick Dwarf also because I think they look the coolest with red beards and there short stockness and they really sound cool when they talk.

Does being a dwarf make you harder to hit in the WOW?
