Unusual approach to kill Ganth

I've just reached the Ganth at the water tower in elite mode. My characters are levels 89 and 90 and the Ganth is 91. In previous runs it's not been problematic, but this time I'm playing WTHOUT a ranged character (except when required for side quests) - my two Combat Mages face resistance to his attacks and my 3 melee are constantly at risk of being caught by his red axe. The only character able to attack from a distance with any effect is the Nature Mage, using ice attacks only (I wanted to see how to handle the Ganth without immobilising him with Clinging Vine). What's more, the periods between each activation of his special recover power are down to 2-3 seconds. Hit and run worked to a point but I was forced back to Kalrathia, chased by the Ganth .... sometimes running faster than my characters! At the walls of the city I used Chant of Power (instant recharge of all powers) and by hitting him 3 or 4 times with the instantly recharging powers it took him out in about 30 seconds. If I hadn't been forced back to the town I'd never have thought of using this techinque. Anyone else found any unusual approaches ... ?

Here is how i beat the ganth, each time. Im a combat mage, so i debuff him with infect, then i blasted him with skullspray until he screamed uncle and died. I think its time to play DS2 again.

Telling people to not give up and retreat to the forums so soon isnt offtopic =/ anyone who cant figure out how to beat a guy so easy is probably too young to play the game.

For the Ganth guarding the water, there's a nice health shrine nearby that works wonders. Get your fighter and rangers in there then just fight the Ganth 1 on 1 using Brutal Attack/Take Aim until you prevail.

For the Ganths in Zaramoth's horns... well, I hope you are high enough level by that point just to take them down normally.

Instead of cripple I think infect is better.you can use encase or static bolt to decrease his speed. But you can't give many curses.Though infect may not decrease attack speed, that RED AXE thing is a spell and infect highly reduces cast rate. I have actually seen him get so slow that I still keep on hitting him and can just run back before his axe can give that shock wave. Sometimes he couldn't even cast it completely, just stopped in middle. He seemed so helpless. With all that magic resistance, he still dies with death magic if he can't regain his health back.So I think use spells for attack speed reduction and infect for cast reduction. Or if you want to see him helpless entangle him too. :D
Or just silence him(just an idea, never tried it).

Hmmm THAT'S why I justbeat the Ganth in like 20sec on Vet, and his red axe didn't do jack.

My 2-3 member parties never have any trouble with any characters. Ganths/Dark Wizards/Valdis.

Only the Overmage (with his completely overpowered fire ability that 1-hits every mage) poses a problem, and only his glacial aura hurts a tank.

Brutal attack by the time you get to Ganth should recover too fast for any boss to be a problem, I don't know what to say.

It all comes down to your damage output. If you haven't put effort into party selection and just run with randoms you're going to struggle. You'd either have to reroll or settle for a 10 minute fight. If you have a strong aresenal of ranged dps then shoot-run-shoot-run. You could also try having a single tank so he's less likely to hit 6 characters with his healing attack, and only hits 1. In elite he's 0 struggle. No running, no changing characters, no sweat. Just have a look at the group build I posted.
