Combat seems a little strange at times... Like I still don't like the fact that you can go room to room killing everyone with a shotgun, while the enemies in the other rooms don't know of you killing their comrades just a wall away. And enemies that just stand still while their friend get sneak attacked with a sniper.

Cool is that now sometimes take cover.

Also, i liked it better when i didn't see how high my skill would have to be to get a extra response. I don't like it actually that the skill being used is mentioned next to the answer.

I got Vegas thinking "wow more Fallout" . My advice to anyone would be to see Vegas as just an expansion of Fallout 3.
During my 30 or so hours of play the game would crash about once an hour. While running through the wastelands on a few times the pc would just freeze. Getting stuck on scenery happened about 4 times. I have uninstalled the game, maybe later I will give it another go :(

Me, I'm playing the game with top end computer (GTX 480) and I have even tried the game in 3D, though only shortly with my brother's tv. Now that takes gaming to new level! :eek: :D


agreed, now if only bethesda would let obsidion develop the games then it would be a win-win situation,because frankly the story line sucked in fallout 3.

I'm to much of a fallout 2 fan to see anyone but those that worked on the orignal series to make the games.

I played this game (PC version) for about 80 hours (exploring every pixel) but unfortunately I am not going to finish it because the game eventually became unplayable due to the staggering amount of bugs.
And I don't mean just glitches, disappearing companions, broken quests, occasional CTD etc. My biggest complain is corrupted savegames.

The longer you play, the buggier it becomes. Every other autosave (and you know how often the game autosaves -- a lot) is corrupted, oftentimes corrupting the previous save or quicksave, and the game crashes/freezes every 2-3 minutes.

Forget Ctrl-Alt-Del, folks, it does not work. Hard reboot is the only "solution".

I like NV, it is a fun game despite a number of design flaws fans would probably choose to overlook. But, unfortunately, it is also a typical Obsidian "product" -- unpolished and buggy as a Texas outhouse. Gamebryo has known issues but compared to NV, playing FO3 was a flawless experience in terms of polish and performance. This already buggy engine required Obsidian's "special touch" for the otherwise enjoyable game to become an unplayable bugfest.

Okay, first of all, if you managed to get 80+ hours out of the game it is not, by any definition, "unplayable."

Second I have well over 80 hours and I've yet to encounter most of these bugs. I'm still only encountering the ones I mentioned above.
Maybe it's hardware dependent? All I know is my rig isn't having any problems:

i5 2.8 core, 6GB ram, 260GTS, windows 7 64bit.

Perhaps those +80 hours included reloading and replaying same parts again and again. So, if you spend even near the half of the time replaying certain sections due bugs and corrupted saves, I think it qualifies as unplayable.

Me, I have not experienced corrupted saves (yet), though wide variety of other bugs. For example, the game crashes randomly about every 1-2 hours, NPCs have been displaced strangely (like standing inside cabinet, so that hand is visible, though the NPC is untargetable), At least once I have noticed that the NPC was not there where he/she was meant to be, several times I suspect I have met the bug though can not confirm, the quest pointers points to completely wrong location, strange lags especially right after killcam, companions getting stuck and so on.

Especially annoying bug I have noticed is the random lag when I press tabublator to get access to my Pipboy. This becomes frustrating when under heavy fire, as usually before the game reacts to the fact that I have pressed tabulator I have already been killed without possibility of healing. Same goes to VATS as well.

I have spent about 40 hours to the game, though I have restarted at least thrice. Also, if I estimate that I have spent few hours to play sections again due bug/crash, I can understand why someone claims that the game becomes unplayable...

Oh, and if you suggest hardware problems, my rig is otherwise identical to yours, but replace the video card with GTX480 (yes, with 650w power supply and the temps don't get over 70-80 while playing New Vegas).

I have had this problem a lot, but I am playing on a PS3. It freezes up my playstation quite often. We thought it might be a bad disc? does anyone else have this problem with a PS3 version?

Other than this problem, I like the game. I haven't finished it yet. I don't have as much rpg experience as many people here seem to. The only other games I am familiar with are FO3 and Oblivion, and I loved them both. I like the beginning of this game better than FO3. You really get into the wasteland a lot quicker, and character creation isn't as tedious. But the story line takes a lot more time to become interested in. I wasn't really emotionally involved in that package that was stolen from me, so I didn't really understand the point of the main questline until I got to Vegas, which took a while because I explored a lot.

Specifically, I like how several of the skills seem much more useful in this game, like science, speech, and barter. I also like how you get perks for using a certain weapon, or killing a certain type of enemy a lot. That makes it more like Oblivion, how you actually got better at skills the more you used them. The survival skill which allows you to combine and cook foods at a campfire reminds me of the alchemy skill from oblivion. It is useful especially if you are playing on hardcore mode, which I am. The followers system seems a lot better to me. it is easier to tell them what to do, and I like that they each follower gives you a different perk, but not all of them are very useful. Also I like how other NPCs actually react to the people you have following you.
I am sure I will form more opinions as I continue to play the game, but It is fun so far.

ya u can basically expect it to freeze no matter the disc or the console, any game developed by both obsidian and bethesda is likely going to be buggy so just save often and hope you get lucky is about all you can do

Level 20 character now and the only bugs I've ran into, are of my own making...getting stuck trying to climb up or over places that you shouldn't ..:laugh:

so far am enjoying it greatly, both gameplay and storyline.
plus like the fact that there is a subplot with your follower, at least with the two I have....

I've seen many of the glitches others have mentioned (odd "flashes" of light that look to me like an incorrectly rendered texture, disappearing companions, corrupted autosave after the game crashed while loading a new area, and frequent hard crashes) all on the 360, so I don't think you can attribute any of them to PC configuration. All that notwithstanding, I've racked up 50+ hours of playing time, and I'm on my 3rd play through (this time helping the NCR's agenda) so I have to give it high marks for story, characters and game mechanics. I just recommend saving often, rotating between two or three saves in case one gets corrupted, and making sure your companions are visible when you save.

I did have the odd 'flashes' of light bug as well and I'm playing the PC version of the game. I have yet to bump into disappearing companions and corrupted saves but I did bump into some minor bugs where enemies sometimes sink into the ground and a glitch in the companion pathfinding where they sometimes stand still even though you didn't ask them to wait.

Those bugs are not something to gnash your teeth at, but it can be a bit annoying at times.
