So a poll may show that a lot of people are more interested in a BG3 that, say, in NWN.

To Interplay, NWN held the hope of BG2 success *plus* grabbing the action crowd who love 3D graphics. At least, that's the way an Interplay rep once described it to me. And as he put it to me, there was nowhere else to take the BG2 story after ToB. The characters were too maxxed out on spells, items, weapons and skills. Battles lacked all strategic finesse.
Not to say I don't share your desire--I just know the story had come to an end, and I'm grateful for what we got. My chief concern is that Interplay's poor showings (combined with PoR II and Arcanum, neither of which has done very well) will make the bean counters start screaming that CRPGs Don't Sell, and we'll be back where we were half a decade ago, despite BG2 and Wizardry 8.
Really, NWN and the new Bioware/LucasArts Star Wars CRPG are the best hope for CRPG fans at this moment.
