You can't argue with the five points of elemental damage. It is a +4 weapon. However, there is no one in SoA who has a proficiency slot in halberd (I don't think). It's those crazy weapons like celestial fury, belm, flail of ages, crom faeyr that make it so hard to not put the prof. points in.

As far as doing all the NPC quests, that's where resting comes in. I did it, alot. Sometimes the group would just take three days off to help bump some quests along. Also, I had so many quests going simultaneously and was mixing and matching so many NPC's. A lot of time went by from going back and forth so much to different locations. For instance, finally got enough cash to afford the belt of inertial barrier. Took a trip from the docks out to trademeet just to buy the belt. That eats up a couple of days. It was/is a real fun game. You might as well blow off imoen. Irenicus is going anywhere. In fact, I think all the side quests are the best part of the game. It just seems to lose a little for me once I go to spellhold primarily because the game becomes so linear at that point with the exception of the sahuaguin city.

WHAT THE....you couldn't take him out? He is the simplest semi-boss in the game.

The elemental damages is the key and that means that your mages are the key(edwin and imoen). Load them up with FireArrow(the 3rd level spell), melfs acid arrows, Cone of Ice, Dragon's breath and chain lightnings(or a few extra lightning bolts if you feel that you have enough fire to go around. Fire are the meanest attack spells around anyway). Get your hands on a few wands of Lightning, Fire and Ice(your melfs acid arrows should be enough to take him out in air mode).

Now if you shoot the CORRECT magic at the correct time(acid against air, Fire against ice, Ice against Red and Lighting against Slime) and the magic will do FULL DAMAGE!

The key why you cant kill him is that he regenerates like hell(really only beaten by the demigorgon) and can only die when attacked by the proper elemental damage.

I think that most people have forgotten the true value of magic against bosses once they ended up in ToB and stopped thinking of mages as damage dealers(and instead aidees).

Cybot,

The elemental damage does not work like that on the insane difficulty setting. Read through the thread; it has been pointed out several times.

No. They have said elemental damages from arrows, weapons and other crap. Those always do 3 damage against the beast.

The only difference in Insane mode is that monsters do double damage. They do NOT gain any extra super special resistances.
Believe me. I have gone through the Watchers keep on Insane mode(I am currently struggling my way through Sendais stronghold). The Chromatic deamon takes full damage from the correct magical attacks and you should have taken the hint that the guys who has kept the demon a prisoner(storylinewise) where ELEMENTAL MAGES!!!

Sorry Cybot. I just went through it and would not have started this thread if damage was being applied as you claim it should be. I don't know how or why our two games are working differently but they are.

Sure you have the latest version? Cause last time I checked the demon recieves 2d4 damage from melfs acids(when in airmode) and helluva lot of damage from a full array of Flamingarrow(when in icemode).

I have gone back to one of my earlier saves(ranger) and checked if my mode would work on him at Insane difficulty....and it does.

Can it be some freakish update problem. I know that some creatures gains some extra magic resistance but if you get a hit in it shouldn't be reduced to a static 3 damage.

WAAAAIIIT, Are you using the improved monster patch for the chromatic demon? Because if you are that might add some very nasty abilities to the bastard.

I'm not so that might explain our differences.

I don't know. I've downloaded some tob of patches but most of them are official patches. I have a couple of non interplay/bis soa/tob patches but nothing openly labeled to the chromatic demon like beholder scripts and dragon scripts. I can't explain it, I previously never had any trouble with the chromatic demon until this time around which was the first time on insane difficulty. It doesn't really matter though because I found alternate means to punish his a$$. Read the post where I talk about how he eventually was beaten.

You must be using the update, when I fought him I never used any elemental stuff, just charged him and took him out, he never changed form for me, just stuck as a big air elemental until he died which wasn't long, maybye you need +5 weapons or summat to do any real damage (Carsomyr, Crom Faer, Staff of Magi etc)

Insect plauge, lets see him cast heal when thousands of creatures are biting him, plus he takes garunteed damage. Pretty good

Is it possible to choose which form he starts in? and can I just kill him in that form? I thought i could just get him in ice and hit him with dragons breath, fire balls anf stuff

insect plauge and then charge him is how i done it as well. with that on him he can't heal himself or be able to change will he and then you will have just a normal demon on your hands which i just hacked to pieces.

if that don't work try using the silver sword with doom. 25% he will die instantly if he fails to make a save
