'Run n Gun', thought that was probably it, after trying wack and Dodge a couple of times that's what I wound up doing. Only problem I've had with that method is that the blighters, Carrion Wyrms in particular catch up far too quickly. Which means turn, run, turn, shoot, rinse and repeat. I get bored after a while, or fall down one of those [expletive deleted] pits, that's when I say #### it and pull out the poison cloud.

The final, Warlord, promotion quest was a real bitch, even PC doesn't help when the SOB continually summons wraiths! Got him eventually with the run'n'gun method, grabbed his gear and legged it before his pet wraiths could catch up. Disappointing weapon he dropped, Winged Avenger still number one. So tempting to use Mog's mace, or the Ice Dagger, or even the big club I got in the Arena, but managing to resist temptation so far.

Just how effective is Bleeding Wound? I've got it up to level 5 so far and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Not sure what you classify as high level Scott, my character is level 15 at the moment, not what I'd usually call high but not sure where that sits in this game.

It's been so long that it's tough for me to say.

I can tell you that I "farm" (or did) for 9 to 10 levels before doing almost anything. (leveling in the City as mentioned previously.)

I'm pretty sure I level as needed with the blue lions and then often do what's required to get my first - second tier class, and then comeback and level more with the new melee abilities/weapons (if any). Perhaps the upper "teens". And note: this is before continuing with the main quest (..Elven Challenge).

I also think it was largely dependent on stats rather than skill level with weapons. (I *think* 4 points in the weapon nets you all the maneuvers of that weapon - from there it's more about use with improved weapons in that category.)

I had it all worked out at one point.. and some of my information may still be here in this forum.

Depends on the level and weapon. Polearm is the worst for it because it doesn't hit nearly as often.

Most special abilities are good at 9, and excellent at 12. (..that I remember.)

Another trick to level is early on get freezing touch and summon rat. You will fight carrion worms on the way to that encampment in the north. Freezing touch can help kill the worms. Summon rat spam staggers the worms a bit and lets you get separate multiple worms from each other. all around a distraction. Then when you break through the line of carrion worms guardians of the mountain pass just fight spawns near the encampment. You could also run from the worms I guess and let the encampment guards deal with them. One hit and you get xp. The real benefit in addition to xp is the multiple expensive staves you can farm. Then you buy tons of spells. Next step go to skuldoon by powering through death widows and so forth with spell spam. There are high xp spawns just outside skuldoon such as those guys that hit you with insects and their tongue. But the encampment in the north is awesome for farming gold. You can sell to the witch. Another thing is that the guards can help you fight things but that's really not necessary.

The Carrion Wyrms that guard the pass to Talendor are no problem. I just run pass them making sure they keep following, head to Talendor where even more XP and booty are waiting in the form of Captain Durreck and his Barrowgrim guards plus a bunch of goblins. For some reason nothing can go into the ruins so it's a safe haven and you can climb onto the wall and pick them off with missiles.

Hello again. I apologize for being away for a while. Second, thanks again for new information. Galraen, Special thanks to you, because you revived a hope that I can play a polearm using character. Now, I am aware that, similar to Elder scrolls series, magic is integral part of any type of gameplay. Simply put, it makes the character's life much easier. I do intend to dab into magic a bit. But I do not want it to be anywhere near the focal point of the character. Adept will give me some basic buffing spells (not sure if I will ever be able to buy Ward of fire as I don't remember if I need 2nd tear celestial class to unlock it in shop), hopefully Ward of fire and (unlikely?) Time stop. Rune magic has some nifty spells as well, although it is the weakest school in game IMO, and shards of stone is very potent spell as an "oh s**t " go-to. Lack of nether and arcane will be felt, especially since I heavily relied on ice shards as crowd control in my previous play. But I can live with that.
Now, I do know that there are some enemies in the game that are downright impossible to put down via hack and slash method, due to either their own in-built CC ability or some other factors. And this is why I came here in the first place. Is it possible to build this type of character with a possibility of contingency if I have to face one of the foes mentioned above? Is there anything I can do to put down these foes, when my t(h)rusty *wink* polearm doesn't cut it?
Problem is I played this game a long time ago, and my memory is fuzzy when it comes to some particular things, such as the availability of certain spells for purchase if I lack certain classes.
So, if I don't go paladin or monk, will Ward of fire or Time stop show up in shop?
What can I do if I run into any of the chain stunning enemies? Will Shards of stone suffice?

Now, I have just gotten out of sewers with my warwitch wannabe (didn't have as much free time as I am hoping for), and I can spare to scrap the character and make another one. I will not delete the save in case the polearm character turns out to be very difficult. But I really like the concept, and I will give it a shot.

Thanks a ton, guys. All the best :)

The Ward of Ice, Ward of Fire and Time crystals are available for sale to anyone, the first two only in Arindale. You can find Solar Ray, but not sure about any others, certainly I've never found Purify, Blessed Spirit or Divine Intervention.

Not surprisingly I couldn't take down the final villain with melee, but Shards of Stone id the job eventually.

Restarted the game having wiped all but Adept class and all Heraldries but Guardian (the Pole arm one) and have made it to Marauder/Death Lord + Paladin and I'm still using the Angelic Destroyer out of preference. The Blade of Death gives it a run for it's money, but the only time it's worth switching to dual wield is when fighting Undead and Wraiths, Burning Crystal + Divine Kris Blade are hard to ignore against them, although against just undead I stick to the AD.

I have made speed a priority, been at max speed since the mid point of the first run through. Strength is currently at 78.

Fun part: I used the editor to give myself a Balista Bolt to see if it worked, it does, of course the penalties are crippling unless you have a very high strike capability and don't mind exploiting the glitch (equip normal missile weapon, switch to it, then equip the B Bolt, switch to it - you then keep the strike and speed of normal weapons although it's in red). Usually use the Gold Throwing Knife or Burning Bow though. The damage from the B Bolt isn't ridiculously high max 16 I think, but the 50% stun is a bit high, although I've never seen anyone knocked flat the way they knock you flat! Almost a legitimate cheat IMO as the missile weapons in the game are pretty pathetic.

What monsters are you thinking you will need spells to face? I am thinking of the gazers for which I always use whirlwind.
