Re: didn't i just comment on this
First of all, let me just say that I only got 2 hours of sleep last night because the conversion to these new forums didn't go as well as I had hoped... so be easy on me =). I'll take everyone's comments and complaints one at a time.

Well, once I get most of the bugs worked out, I will do what I can to make the forums "original" again. I don't want to start customizing things until people are happy with the current system.Originally posted by Ned Flanders
The changes seem to have stripped the GB forum of its' originality.
Ok, adding that to my to-do list.Originally posted by Ned Flanders
My only request would be to get the old smilies back. The color of them add more personality. And the eek doesn't appear to bug out.
Yes, this is something I was not aware of until now. It seems that UBB had a "login" name and a "user" name, with the new forums only importing the "login" one. If you want your username changed (and this only goes for those of you who were affected by this, not just people who want a new name), please send me an email with your *current* name, as well as the name you want it to be, and I'll see what I can do. I apologize for the inconvenience.Originally posted by Yshania
A couple of things I have noticed, the first is that at least a couple of member names have changed...no doubt these members will be in touch about this
There seems to have been a database problem with PMs, which I just ran a query in MySQL to fix... but I'm not sure why you are getting separate PMs. Can you please send me a PM with the details of what has changed, so that I can see it first hand?Originally posted by Yshania
btw, has the rating system gone now? and last question is about PMs...where we originally replied to each PM, why do we suddenly have all responses to one single PM, as seperate PMs? with no view of what we have said ourselves...that doesn't make sense
Ok. someone sends me a PM, I respond, they respond back. What I have in my inbox is two seperate PMs from this person (with no sight of my response - therefore no reference) resulting from the one original...is that still senseless? Does this PM separation only apply to PMs originally in my in-box, or will all PMs become separated?
I have the ability to shut avatars off if a majority of users don't want them being used. I'd like to see some feedback so I can see a general consensus of who wants them and who doesn't.Originally posted by ThorinOakensfield
Avatars i really don't like. Eventually you'll have 2 million people with some demon avatar or something.
Re: Please fix the names sooner rather than later
I really hope you can accept my apologies, I had no idea this would happen when I imported the old forums. As stated above, please drop me an email with your current username and what you want it changed to and I'll get it fixed ASAP.Originally posted by Gwalchmai
Suddenly, my Log-in name is used instead of my Screen Name. This makes me very angry. I thought I could trust you, Buck, with a name that I only give out to good friends. I feel betrayed. If you or the moderators have any control over this, they should intervene NOW!
I would quit posting, except that the damage has already been done.
Woah!
*And without warning, the almighty god Buck completely changes Gaxx_Firkraag's life*
Like the others:
-member ratings (I want my 5 stars )
-member numbers (same as above, you don't really know who has been here a while and who just got here)
-way to complicated (too many options, stuff you can do)
-member name changes?
-smilies (colour)
-I like the idea of sticky threads
-plus, I think you've made craig go crazy
It'll take some getting used to, but I'll manage.
Great job, Buck! And get some sleep.

If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.
I ran a couple of MySQL queries in an attempt to fix this problem. Is it still happening?Originally posted by dragon wench
I cannot access my pms.....I tried the aforementioned trick of pretending to send myself a message....this allows me to access my profile...but I still get the following message when I click on the pm link:
There seems to have been a slight problem with the GameBanshee Forums database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
I like the avatars, myself. I also preferred the old smilies.Originally posted by Buck Satan

I am running at 28 kbps most of the time at home and the forums load like a normal text based websites the only load time is taken up on images like the Avatars and general smilies, all round though it is a vast improvement of speed over the old system, where one would end up stuck.Originally posted by Buck Satan
For those of you who were having speed-related problems in the old forums, is there a noticeable speed difference? Things should be much faster, but I'd like to get some comments on how the forums are performing for some of you.
Also the pages load sequentially which makes reading easier
Good work Buck

Re: Re: Please fix the names sooner rather than later
Thanks again.
Thank you for going to this effort for me. I appreciate it. Just a few small niggling problems, as detailed in an e-mail I just sent, and everything should be taken care of.Originally posted by Buck Satan

Thanks for all your work Buck. I won't niggle, what ever you want is fine by me. I liked the first one! Here go grab a doona and get some sleep. - Curdis

Hi, again, Buck.
I've just noticed that there has been a general messing up with log-in and user names, but I trust you'll do your best to fix it.
1) Speed: though I use a 56 kpbs, there had been times when it took me some time to download some pages, which seemed unrelated to whether it was BG1 or BG2 forum, or whatever. Now there is a really noticeable difference in the speed factor. I suppose it couldn't be better or get faster . Good work!
2) Member rating: Ok, I hadn't made a rating system available for myself, but since I became member in the forums I have rated some other members. It's unfair for them they can't see their rating stars.
3) Generally: a) the new look of the forums is a bit too complicated, but I think I can live with it . It will take me some time to get used to it, that's all.
b) I'd like seeing who's here for a long long time and who's a newcomer.
c) It was good to view the last active thread in each forum from the main forum screen.
That's all, I think. I suppose I'll have to surf around and make a usage of all new possibilities available before I can tell.
In other words, it was a nice change --we all need some changes from time to time; it makes things more interesting. But we'll need some time to adjust ourselves.
Thanks for everything.
Cheers,
Aubrey (a.k.a. Balthazar --do you read, Buck? )

Buck, I have PMd you, but there is an update. Where I have lost the sent part of all of my saved PMs, I have also lost some of the older received parts of some of my saved PMs.Originally posted by Buck Satan

In summary, the latest three received messages (in any one PM) are sitting in my in-box as separate PMs but under the same title as the original one PM, with the older received messages of that PM lost.
Are these missing parts (and the missing whole PMs) permanently lost?

Love the new board, but fix your menu link will ya
Can we get something that isn't yellow for the "No new posts" icon please? It's far too similar to the "New posts" icon. How about that sort of black shade that is used on the main forum listing? I like that.
Again though, this board is a big improvement. I still hate ratings features though.
