Er... Neutral is the gray area. Evil is very clearly the black stuff.
Paladins are uncomfortable around Neutral people already (they won't even have them as henchmen). Imagine how they must feel around Evil folk.
Remember: if Neutral is "not caring about others", then what must Evil be?
