Mass Invisibility does the trick too. Cast the spell before entering the temple, take your party to the room where the eggs are guarded, enter the room and close the door behind you. Switch the eggs. When the golems go hostile, kill them. Then cast again Mass Invisibility, exit the room, close the door behind you and get out of the temple.

No one notices anything, no one goes hostile, and you can witness the ritual a little later.

RE: Mass Invisibility Dragon Eggs Swap

First off...love the Gandalf quote...Secondly, some characters will not be high enough level to cast mass invisibility so they will need an alternative way of completing the quest. The way that I have outlined requires no spellcasting at all. :) P.S. "All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost..."

Obviously, I love that quote myself, pstack. :)

Agree that some characters won't be enough high level to cast Improved Invisibility, and it depends on what quests you have done before going to Underdark. But you can always buy a scroll. The difference between us is that I prefer killing no one save for the Golems guarding the eggs inside the chamber.

And that because a couple of times I had killed the two guards by the door, there was a bug which caused the rest of them attacking me as soon as I entered the Temple for watching Matron Mother's ritual.

I've never had a problem with switching the eggs. I just open the door and let the two egg room guards attack me. Kill them, then kill the golems and switch the eggs. None of the other guards seems to notice or care. Anyway, I don't really want to sneak by without a fight. I want the xps and the loot. After the ritual instead of making a dash for the door, I systematically hunt down and kill every last surviving drow in the city including the guys in the inn, the slavemaster with the spelljammer ship, the spider, the githyankis (I usually kill them when I first enter the city), you name it. Then I head over to the ever so friendly deep gnome merchants and sell all the drow equipment before giving the real eggs back to the dragon.

There's a dog on one of the upper levels, and I don't kill him. After I get finished, I figure it's a good idea to leave a scavenger behind. :)

Good for You

The choices we have available to us are what keeps us coming back to this game. The vain and arrogant Drow deserve to die whether you choose the path of good or evil, and you can kill them either way (as I'm sure you well know). Personally, I find them the most annoying creatures in the game...can't stand any of em. I always have the urge to slaughter them en masse and have done so many times when playing an evil party, which is rare. I play the game based on the alignment of my characters, and try to remain true to that alignment..to each their own.
P.S. I find it a seriously boring, and time consuming process picking up all their armor, swords, flails, etc. putting them in the bag of holding, pulling em back out again and dumping them off on a vendor. I'd rather get on with the game...there's plenty of other loot to be had...
