Laenor: Well, I havn't alot of insight into the depths of the game mechanisms of backstabbing(wonders if all that extra damage from the staff is actually multiplied). But if I can do it with just one blade and Str24 I can get 175 damage from a backstab with Celestial fury(plus stunning effects). If I can do it with both blades I can get 300+!!! damage.
In a round of Assassination though.... Oh yeah. If I hit with all my blades I can get something like 600 damage going through. And that is purely insane amounts of damage.

Now, generally thieves never have Str25 so you will have to be satisfied with a mere Str 22 and something like 150 damage from a backstab with one blade.

The problem with quivering palm , is that it weakens as your enemies get stronger due to the saveing throw against it. In ToB that are alot of things just immune to it.

I didn't really like BG 2 because you started at such a high level, so I started playing IWD after BG. But If I was gonna solo in BG 2 I'd take my solo Bard from BG and make her a Jester. They don't get any penalties, and they get a great song for a soloist. Come to think of it I might actually do that since I haven't gotten far in IWD and am still testing.

You can technically go through SOA and TOB with every character, whether you will survive it is another story... :D

I think spell-casting characters are over-powering, and in the expansion the thiefs can use everything and therefore also over-powering.

Has anyone solo a non-spell caster which is not a monk through the whole game?

Scuse meeee....

But shouldn't *EVERY* - class be able to solo through the game ? Seriously ?

I've never tried, but I've got the distinct impression that the Game was balanced out to give everone the possibility to try as he/she likes ?

If not - NO worries !

Nope, some classes just doesn't work alone...but are very powerful as a compliment. For example I don't think that I could have gone through it all soloing as a druid.

The game was balanced out so that any combination of six characters--one of yours, and five of the developers--could succeed, even on the most difficult level. I don't recall their making an concessions for solo players in that regard.

I stand corrected and bow my head in shame ;)

Since I'm no powergamer I just tried soloing once and gave up about halfway through the Irenicus Prison level...it's just not the right feel for me... :(

No worries,

druids are awesome... especially the one that gets summon animal spirits, forgot its name...
i had one of those as a pc in a 4-player party and he was by far the best char.... the druid got a good mix of offensive, defensive and healing skills as well as alot of critters for tanking. The critters were very useful as he used the sling of everard....

Yep

right now im soloing 14/11 swashbuckler/mage and its hard as hell. Heh good thing the tanner quest and the littleman and the mourning paladin quests are there.....about 100 K of XP, really helps....i was using katana's with him, should be able to use celestial fury and malakar throughout the BGII, maybe staff of the ram in TOB....
