Thanks, Aegis, for good words

;) , I think many would agree it was survival item number 1. As for a comment on the Cloak of Non-Detection, I have a question: is it really necessary to kill poor guy to get it? No other way to have this cloak? In real life I would rather supress my pride than kill someone (even for really offending words), so I try to follow this in the game, too - which is somewhat strange for a Child. But Gorion was so kind to me...

That's a good point if you're playing good chars- there's no real justification for continuing that fight other than macho pride or whatever. And no, I don't know how to get it otherwise; you couldn't pickpocket it because they'd be hostile by the time you got there... unless you were invisible to begin with...

It is not a problem of hostility: I fed Jan with 5 or 6 potions of Thievery, and he was leaving people without their posessions better than any Revenue Board. I stole everything from everyone from this band (untill the message "Target has no items"), and Cloak was not accesible.

That means he was wearing it then. Oh dear- if you're role playing good guys properly, you won't be able to nab that cloak... unless you happen to summon a pit fiend while you're up there? Nah, not really justifable either.

(i cannot justify that terrible spelling)

Well, guess the only alternative is a mage spell Non-detection.

A bit of a pain that though eh. Maybe there's other gizmos that offer non detection? I know The harper pin does but J. can't use the staff of the magi and you can't use the pin unless you happen to be multi classed thief/mage.

Three words: Ring of Gaxx. Course I usually play fighters....

Ah! Thanks Aegis, so it's the boots that are bugged! I assume you're talking about the fact the character takes a step then does an about-face? I have'em on my PC. It didn't always happen, and only happened when I had the entire party selected. Is it just one particular pair, or any pair? (and here I thought maybe the guy was a big chicken. I'd get'em all buffed up, yell charge, and he'd go run and hide behind Aerie).

Special note for people too fond of clua console createitem....
In tob there are two kinds of gem bags and scroll cases. havent tried with bag of holding.

I like having my pc soceress keep a library of scrolls for one off spellls. whenever I get a scroll I don't need scribed by aerie or imoen, but want to use laater, I store in scroll case. I also keep all my spare amulets and specialty items in gem bag. example, poison protection I keep in gem bag until I run an encounter with umbar hulks, in which case I'll use poison protection so I can send savarok foward into the cloud kill zones.

however, summon multiple scroll cases and gem bags into the start of tob and they have the identical bug for bags of holding in SOa without the tob add on. They share the same inventory space, so each person who has a scrollcase can reach in and have the same items!Multiple bags of holding available to you by purchase from saradush does not have this problem. Looks like the old scroll cases in soa are buggy in tob. Its better to buy the multiple bags of holding in saradush and wait until you get to watchers keep and buy some scroll cases and gem bags there.

special note: true sight is suppose to dispell anything, even those with non detect.

the spell ref seems to indicate that non detect will protect against lesser div spells, like invisibility purge, but the best way to protect your main spell caster for a major lich battle is improved invisibility and spell immunity divination.

The lich casts true sight fairly early in the script, and it goes bonkeeers when it can't see you to target you with its direct action spells. did that to the lich in the crooked rune, and finally beat it to death with my staff.

Also this is a wicked way to use project image. For some really nasty battles I send in an image of my spellcasters in and leave the bodies behind. immunity to divination will keep them from being dispelled by true sight.

Oh yeah, my indispensable item is ring of wiarddry, or anything that gives me extra high level spells. used to be robe of vecna, however increased acuity is so cool...

True enough, non detection the spell does fail against true sight but the cloak of non detection leaves you nice and hidden (with the staff of the magi, not sure if it works with other kinds of invisibilty).

I dont get why everyone loves the bag of holding? it is a good item, but basically you just need it for money, getting stuff you dont need but only wants to sell.

As for best item thats a tough one... I more live on my characters abilities than his equipment. Probably FoA then, even though i didnt get the final version. or 2 symbols of Talos, making my strength 24

vsm you equip two holy symbols? I thought it was a belt item, thus allowing only one equip...

od do you get one everry time you level up past 24?

will have to try with viccy.

no, you can only get one, its a ring. However, with viconia in my team where i am too a cleric (cleric/berzerker, so str is important) i can get 2. I dont really need ring of gaxx since i regenerate with my high con

SPOILER...............................

There's a slightly cheesey way to get 2 holy symbols if you're romancing Anomen (it'd probably work with Vic. too but I've not tried). Make sure your cleric has already reached the level when their deity hands one out before you go to the grave yard for the final battle with B. When your lover gets erm 'abducted' and then gets returned to life they should get issued with another holy symbol. Wonder if this would work with Aerie too? Obviously this works better with a smaller party cos of the high experience requirement.

ONe item I can NOT do without.
Hmmmmmm.

My ammo belt. My Bag of holding. (For resource needs).

To survive? hmmmm, nothing really, Fighter/Mages don't need jack to be good. :D
Swords can be made, so can armour, resistences and creatures. :D :D

The Bag of Holding *is* the best item. Other good ones are:

Amulet of Power - obtained early if you want to, and will prevent level drain. Put it on Anomen and let him blast those vampires to oblivion!

Boots of Speed - the more the merrier! Great for your fighters and one good reason to do the Haer'Dalis Quest early on.

Gauntlets of Dex - Is for Keldorn and Anomen what a Girdle of Strenght is for Viconia and Jan. One of the very best items.

Tancheron's and Sling of Everard - To kill Demi-liches and Adamantite Golems among many others. Easily obtained (contrary to Gesen, for example). Will save your day when all the other NPCs are holding their shiny + 2 weapons, hoping not to get mazed away or crushed to pieces.

Red Dragon Suit - Maybe no longer among of the very best items (since Rings of Protection aren't allowed any more) but still very good. Equip one of your fighters with the armor, the shield and the helmet along with a pair of Boots of Speed. Let him rush into melee and then have your mages start fireballing. Oooh, that gotta hurt some...

Though one

Well here goes.

For my solo assassin i first thought boots of speed or ring of air control but...

as i try to play this game with out getting killed (as much as possible) i think it will have to be arbane's sword. this gives free action. Untill i got it being stunned/held was my main cause of death.
