just starting out, only level 4 running around area from seyda neen to balmora. accidentally took a whack at a citizen and wound up having to pay a fine. But they also took my soul gems! I only had three petty soul gems and just recently acquired the soul trap spell in balmora. It kinda sux though because I had just trapped my first few nix hounds.

How long or where can I score some other soul gems. My mysticism skill and will power attribute are really behind the other developments planned for my character.

many thanks.

I know you can get a load of petty soul gems by looking in all the crates lying around Balmora......

Level four is the perfect time to hit up the tombs - at level four some of the monsters inside will be bonewalkers, that drop soul gems, but not the greater bonewalkers that are a big pain in the rear. FYI, the monsters in tombs respawn really fast, you can go back over and over again. Make sure to have a silver weapon in case there's scary ghosts. Theres a couple good tombs on the coast just north west of Seyda Neen, one is out on a little peninsula that starts right by the other one.

Hope that helps. Also, there is a vendor in the foreign quarter lowest waistworks in Vivec that has some for sale, if you join the mage guild you can get some for free out of the Mage Guild Supply Chest, and well, there's a lot around actually if you keep your eye out for them.

Hi Jaker,

In my (albeit limited) experience, I've ended up with far more Petty and Common soulgems than Lesser, but I think the Cliff Racer (that bird-like pest that attacks you from Seyda Neen to Balmora) fills up the Lesser soulgems nicely :)

Yeah gives you a value of 200 per racer.

Anyone know what happens when you enchant with a diseased soul?

diseased soul = highre value. at least so it seems from my experience.

cliff racers fit in petty gems fine though. It's weird - I can't seem to find anything the right size - cliff racers and skeletons fit in petty gems fine, but bonelords, clannefears, and atronachs fit in common. What kindof monster is between? I guess I will try Lesser Bonelords.

It really IS a problem ;)

(apologies to the 56K people out there.)

Heh...that's quite a nice stash :)

I want to say I tried trapping a lesser bonelord's essence in a Lesser soulgem (symmetry ?), but the Lesser soulgem couldn't contain it.

It's a good question though. Sorry, I don't have the answer yet.

This may be the answer...

Jaker,

I did some experimenting with Lesser soulgems last night and I got to 9th level (woot!) and saw some things I hadn't seen before. The Bull Netch (the big, foating jellyfish thing) looks to be the best creature for the Lesser soulgem. After filling a soulgem with the bull netch's essence, the gem is worth 1k and holds 50 charges. If you find something better, let me know...because I've got a lot of those blue gems now too :)

ah, very good....I attacked one of those netches a long time ago and it beat me down with poison quite severely, I never touched one again :) I guess I give it another try. Good thing I stocked up on many many homemade potions of cure poison.

I did like you said, and I think you found the solution to the blue gem problem so congratulations. I did feel a little bad killing the netch though as it is the one creature in the whole game that does not attack me on sight. It was actually pretty easy to kill although I did get poisoned.

Well then, now to fill the blue stones and pawn 'em off. I kinda' feel the way you do about the Netch...bad karma. To lessen the guilt a bit, just kill one and fill all the Lesser soulgems with it. You don't have to deal with the poison as much either *ouch!*. Of course, at 1,000 gp a pop, those Netch-gem's will certainly come in handy :)

As my platoon of Warhammer Fantasy, elite orc archers (Da Blud Red Stickas) would say, to avoid the poisoning, " Fill it wit arrers... ummm... den... errrr ...fill it wit more arrers."

;)

well like I said I've got a boatload of cure poison potions I made for just such situations. This makes those blue gems worth the trouble for sure - they are common and decent enough for making certain items, or just sell them at 1,000 gold its a good moneymaker.

I was shooting stuff with my bow and I came to the conclusion that the chitin arrows definitely are worse than the iron even though they cost and weigh the same. I was taking down a diseased cliff raider with 2 shots with iron arrows, ran out and switch to some chitin I had, it took 3....and believe me I shot enough racers to be sure
