I'll try my best.

I've just opened my save files and neither my .gam nor the .sav files appear word pad accessible. What I did notice is that each save game has it's separate .gam and .sav files. Maybe you could copy and paste (overwrite) one into another. Of course I think that that would give you 2 save game files that are the same. But it may help you, even so if you try, make a backup copy of whatever you overwrite.

Itmdrgn1: That's what Weasel and I've been trying (see first post for the gruesome details) Swapping=exchanging=mixing files. The baldur.gam file seems crucial, but I don't know about the baldur.sav file. If I switch it, I wonder if everything would be alright. I'm pretty sure I would lose all of my explored areas (between the two games), but I could live with that. I've almost finished every non-NPC initiated quest, so I'm ready to depart for Suldanessar. The unexplored areas wouldn't matter then (oh, wait, I still have to go back to Kuo-toan dungeoun and fetch the belt of frost giant strength, crap) Anyway...I'm wondering if it would totally mess over the game if I exchanged the baldur.sav file with that of a different saved game (I've tried it, but not for any length of game time)

Alright when you two figure out whats wrong with Magus' then you both can tell me what the h#ll I've done... This was before I even messed with Magus' stuff...There is files with the Microsolf flag on them ..I in my wisdom tried to open one and it asked what would I like to open it with....so out of the chooses it gave I picked Notepad...now anytime I open a file it is in Notepad...LOL...Yes I know don't mess with stuff you don't know about..

I surfed around a little in the .gam file and it seems that some dialogue options are also in there (which ones have been completed). Unfortunately, notepad converts ASCII "text" into readable text and both files are too big for it to open. I think that swapping one of the files may indeed mess up the program.Or you may get some interesting effects (i.e. have a dialogue with someone that is not in your party). I will keep looking into it. (By the way do you know how tedious engineering and physics are after 5-6hrs? I look forward to doing something else Image ).

O.k.I figured we could toss around some more ideas (not Image )
I went into my single player auto-save copied that baldur.sav file into the quick-save file. started and loaded the game (the saves originally were different.) The things that I checked were
1)Map-ok
2)Journal=ok
3)Inventory-ok
4)Record- (proficiencys-ok)
THACO-ok
saves-ok
resistances-ok
mage spells-ok
priest spells-ok
It was the same location as the quick-save HAD been, same characters, same area. I did not do any adventuring, but the game did not crash. (Same party members too). It seemed that nothing had changed. Again the game did run. hope that this helps. If you want me to try the .gam file let me know.

Weasel: I did that once (trying to open a file and selecting an application to run it, whereupon it uses that application), and I vowed never to do it again Image Luckily, it must have been something unimportant. Anyhow to prevent that, unclick the box that says "use this program to open this file every time." Now fixing it once it's already done that is a whole 'nother story. Good luck Image

Itmdrgn1: Do you have 2 radically different (long playing times inbetween, different chapters, etc.) saved game files? If so, see if the areas you explored in one are explored in the "mixed(.sav swapped)" one as well. I think they won't be, but I want to make sure. I'm getting confused Image

Itldrng... You have got the right file...this file will slow my game down to a crawl when I swap them.

If I put mine in Magus game it works fine.. just none of the area is explored... and when I walk out of the place he is at the Unseeing eye quest starts again..well I guess it does ... you have did the Unseeing eye quest.?

As for my problem I cannot figure out how to stop it now.. Image It never gives me an option now...Where is this box I need to click??

I hope that I'm not confusing you too bad. The auto-save was in the underdark with the main char. as an undead hunter lvl. 10. all areas but suldenesselar and the underdark exit and the saug. city were revealed.

The quick-save was after the final save, main char. lvl. 16 ranger. all areas revealed.
I used the auto save to replace the quick-save and it looks like nothing was changed from the original quick-save (B4 I overwrote it.)

@Weasel, I did that too, don't worry it doesn't effect the game at all. Just the icon.

The only way that I've found so far is to re-install Image .Unfortunately I changed one of my majors from comp. sci. to elec. engin. Wish I could help more. When I go to school I'll inquire in the CS dept. about it and let you know tues. night or wed.

Thanks if it's not much trouble.

I'm almost out of HD space and thought about just getting a bigger HD and starting over.

I hate bothering you and have one more ? but will not post it unless you want to hear it.

Weasel: Yeah, I had recently finished it, and was in the temple district getting more quests from the representative of Helm. Sorry about your computer. When you click on a strangle file type, a box comes up asking what file you want to open it with. If you don't uncheck this box at the bottom, it will try to open it with that program every time, and if you choose the wrong one you're screwed...
Itldrgn1: What about the actual explored areas on the maps? In mine, I had already gone through the whole Illithid dungeon in the Sewers, but when I replaced the baldur.sav file I found unexplored area, and more nasty illithids.

I was talking about the "a few questions from the new girl" thread :] .

Yes that is the space available. By the way, if you want more space, you can partition your hard drive, Whoops gotta check on the double space thing.

@Magus, I'll load it up and check.

Itldrgn1: You have to check an area that you didn't go to in the game that you overwrote the baldur.sav file to. Ex: In one game I was in the middle of the Illithid dungeon. In another game, I had already completed it. I overwrote the second game's baldur.sav file onto the first game (with it stored safely away), and I had all my characters, items, and quests from the first, but the dungeon was already explored and looted, and the illithids already dead.
