well to answer the original question, my two favorite(I don't like to say best) weapons are:
Celestial Fury
Blackrazor

Flail of the Ages and Crom Faeyer recieve good reviews as well. Alot of people like the HA(holy avenger) but I don't find it that great.

Nighthawk is right the AC can go WAY down to -26 but the to hit rolls are only affected at -10.

Since Weasel was praising Nighthawk, I wanted to chime in. Check out one of many old threads to see the thoroughness of his analysis. For example: http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001731.html
You'll also find a number of threads where he describes his trials of fighter class vs. fighter class, with varying weapons, etc. Thank you Nighthawk!

I know, but you still need boots of
cursed i-don't-know-what giving AC +2 bonus.
I don't know where to find them
and i think this is a cheat only item.
These boots are however special because
they teleport you each time you see
an enemy. If somebody knows where to
find them, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Concerning AC -10 hit limit, this is absolutely wrong. And i'm sure about that.
Those boots were remove from the game due to problems in the dream sequences and sequences in the game were they teleport the charater near the enemy and crashed the game.

I'm puzzled by the enthusiasm for blackrazor. You get it about 2 minutes before the end. It's good for 1, maybe 2, fights. What's the big deal?

Well that is why I don't like to use the term best, it is one of my favorites however.

Ok(for the blondes out there my other reply was a joke!) How do you get Drizzt's Scimitar without it getting taken a way by the mage?

I agree with all the other compliments to Nighthawk. You have been a great asset indeed, and your posts are always very well thought out in advance.

BTW, Nighthawk, when figuring out max backstab, have you looked at using Daystar on undead, since it is X2 damage? I'm not sure how this is calculated, but it seems this is how I get my highest hits. You're probably way past this.

well there is also the 1024 bug, in which daystar would cause 1024 damage to undead creatures, fun yes, but fair no. With an assassin versus undead using daystar it is x9 x7 for a BH or thief. Stalker would be x5.

To Nighthawk :

I'm not so sure about that (ref : 10:0 Image).
What's the matter with Flail of the Ages and Defender of Easthaven ? The first one
is not bad, but too slow to be excellent.
The Defender of Easthaven is good
cause it gives 20 % res. to phys. damage,
but it's only a +2 weapon.
Scimitar is good because it's very fast
and makes as much damage 1D8+3 as the
Flail of Ages 2D4+1+1+1 = 2D4 + 3.
Crom Fayer gives 25 STR.

Oh, by the way, sorry, i have 5 attacks
and without Belm +2. I haven't noticed
that. Strange. Thanks Image.

And yes, about Kensai.
At high level, it's just like any
warrior (some TACO bunuses,
+kensai ability and that's all), but
it can't wear armor. Pfff.

-10 AC limit, i don't trust that.
At -10, i was almost vulnerable,
but now i'm not, for sure. Even my
Keldorn (20 STR, 18 DEX etc.)
with Holy Avenger can't hit me.

(sorry for my poor english, i don't
have many occasions to practice it).

Thanks. Waiting for your reply.

*smiles* and thank you for the praise weasel..im not seen here as often more as im gotten bored with BG2..plowed it to death...but im keeping it on the shelf till the expansion is being made...i have seen a place where it listed baldurs gate 2 expansion as an upcomming thing..and i think i read something on bgcchronicles about a BG2 expansion

and for blackrazor..that weapon is just cool to use..that and the celestial fury is a killer combo..just import a finished char into a new game and give them to the new main char..and watch him slice and dice..its simply too cool to have that energy drain attack

WarlordTCK:
Taking these in order...

Reference 10:0 is to fights I tested out by creating characters with Shadowkeeper and dueling them against eachother. Everything else equal, any max level warrior wielding Flail of Ages and another top level weapon beat another max level warrior wielding any other pair of top level weapons 10 out of 10 times. Speed on FoA is 4, which is a bit slower than the fastest weapons, but still faster than most spells. Other than interrupting spell casting, weapon speed doesn't matter much.

Defender of Easthaven only claims to be +2, but is in fact +3 (test it out). It is nice with FoA since it only requires a single weapon proficiency and good for barbarians since the resistance combines with their natural resistance.

I don't normally considere Drizzt's scimitars in weapon analysis since they can't be used without cheating. However:
FoA does 1d6+4+1+1+1 average of 10.5
Defender+5 does 1d8+3 average of 7.5

FoA is the second most damaging 1-h weapon in the game (Crom Faeyr being #1) but the Slow effect is why is it so effective.

I can't find what I said about Kensai. However, the big advantage they gain at high level isn't the Thac0, it's the bonus damage. A level 19 Kensai gets +6 damage with each hit and can use Kai to max out his damage rolls for another +1.5 to +4.5 average depending on weapon. With the max -10AC and the shield amulet the lack of armor doesn't matter much.

I have tested out the AC limit and my test fighters hit eachother almost every time even when they're sitting at AC -25 (Skald songs).

I don't know what Keldorn's level or Thac0 are, but at high level he should hit you regardless of your AC.

I will double check this, hopefully tonight.

Why haven't all the mages answered this thread with "your brain and your spellbook"?

Hmmm? Image
